It is proposed that the rotor time constant and inductance are compensated at the same time in the indirect vector control method of an induction motor. The proposed scheme compensates the rotor time constant using the difference between the Q-axis real stator current and estimated current that is calculated from the terminal voltage and current, and compensates inductance by using the difference between the D-axis real stator flux and estimated stator flux in the synchronous rotating reference frame. Although the rotor time constant and inductance vary at once, the proposed method compensates the rotor time constant and inductance with accuracy. In addition to, two variables can be compensated not only at the steady state condition, but also at the transient state, where the torque varies in a rectangular pulse waveform. Therefore, the performance of vector control is greatly improved as verified by experiment.

The accurate identification of the motor parameters is crucially important to achieve high dynamic performance of induction motors. In this paper, th motor parameters such as stator(rotor) resistance, stator(rotor) leakage inductance, mutual inductance, and rotor inertia are measured in off-line. Stator(rotor) resistance and stator(rotor) leakage inductance are measured based on the stationary coordinate equations of induction motors. On the other hand, mutual inductance are measured under the scalar control. Finally, the inverse rotor time constant is identified in on-line using an extended kalman filter algorithm. To demonstrate the practical significance of the results, Some experimental results are presented.
Parameter estimation of induction motor for vector control presented in this paper can be easily implemented and applied to inverters in the industrial field, because it needs no additional hardware such as voltage sensor and measuring equipment. At first, the stator resistance including switching loss of inverter is measured by simple voltage-current equation. Next, in pre-magnetization of machine by imposing the d-axis constant field-current, q-axis torque current is forced to the machine until its speed feedback reachs to pre-defined level of speed limit. At this time, we can measure the rotor time-constant by decreasing the distorted output-voltage of inverter. At last, stator inductance, transient inductance, and moment of inertia can be measured by the relationship of output voltage, output torque and speed feedback. The validity and usufulness of this method is verified by experimental results.
This paper presents an adaptive flux observer to estimate stator flux linkage and stator inductances of an interior permanent-magnet synchronous machine considering magnetic saturation. The concept of static and dynamic inductances due to saturation is introduced in the machine model to describe the relationship between current and flux linkage and the relationship between their time derivatives. A flux observer designed in the stationary reference frame with constant inductance is analyzed in the rotor reference frame by a frequency-response characteristic. An adaptive algorithm for an on-line inductance estimation is proposed and a Lyapunov-based analysis is given to discuss its stability. The dynamic inductances are estimated by using Taylor approximation based on the static inductances estimated by the adaptive method. The simulation and experimental results show the feasibility and performance of the proposed technique.

A novel rotor speed estimation method using model reference adaptive control(MRAC) is proposed to improve the performance of a sensorless vector controller. In the proposed method, the stator current is used as the model variable for estimating the speed. In conventional MRAC methods, the relation between the two model errors and the speed estimation error is unclear. In the proposed method, the stator current error is represented as a function of the first degree for the error value in the speed estimation. Therefore, the proposed method can produce a fast speed estimation. The robustness of the rotor flux-based MRAC, back EMF-based MRAC, and proposed MRAC is compared based on a sensitivity function about each error of stator resistance, rotor time constant, mutual inductance. Consequently, the proposed method is much more robust than the conventional methods as regards errors in the mutual inductance, stator resistance. Therefore, the proposed method offers a considerable improvement in the performance of a sensorless vector controller at a low speed. In addition, the superiority of the proposed method and the validity of sensitivity functions were verified by simulation and experiment.

A switched reluctance generator(SRG) has simple magnetic structure, and needs simple power electronic driving circuit. But, a SRG are no windings or permanent magnets on the rotor, and there are concentrated windings placed around each salient pole on the stator. Because of the characteristics of time-sharing excitation, the control of SRG is very flexible. And there are several parameters for controlling SRG, such as switch turn-on angle, switch turn-off angle, and exciting voltage and controlling mode, all these will affect the generation greatly. A SRG has positive torque at increasing inductance region and negative torque at decreasing inductance region. In this paper, we studied characteristics about the switch turn-on and off angles according to switch method for constant output voltage of the fixed speed SRG. It is the acoustic noise and torque ripple characteristics. Characteristics for a switch angle and method are presented by experiment using a 50W SRG with 12/8 poles.
An identification method of induction motor parameters such as rotor time constant and mutual inductance at standstill condition is discussed assuming that stator resistance and leakage has already been obtained applying two different DC voltage and single phase voltage to the induction motor, respectively. This proposed scheme is implemented by means of Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) technique, which uses a rotor flux equation in voltage model as a reference model and one in current model and is demonstrated through experiment.

This paper presents the new control strategy that can minimizes the torque ripple by considering the magnetic nonlinearity and phase torque averlapping intervals, and describes the whole SRM drive system using proposed control method implemented by DSP(Digital Signal Processor). To do this, inductance and torque are, at first, measured according to the variation of rotor position angle while current is kept constant at predetermined several values. From these measured values, the entire inductance and torque for any current and rotor position are inferred by using neural network. And the waveform of the reference phase torque is determined for the torque ripple to be minimized considering the torque overlap between phases. The controller is designed for the actual torque obtained by the inferred torque look-up table using measured current and rotor position angle to track the predetermined reference phase torque by delta modulation technique. To perform a real time processing and ensure the reliability of the controller, DSP is implemented.

Vector controlled induction motor have been widely used in high performance applications. How-ever the performance is sensitive to the variations of motor parameters especially the rotor time constant which varies with the temperature and the saturation of the magnetizing inductance. In this paper the authors propose new identifying method for time-varying parameters of an induction motor which is based on adaptive vector control with serial block algorithm. Vector con-trol system realized on synchronous frame and parameter identification system realized on sta-tionary frame are not easily affected by the vector control frame. Parameter mismatch in the control system results in heavy transient variation in speed and torque response. In order to compensate degradation of the responses at the middle and low speed region adaptive identifier is introduced. To verify the feasibility of this technique compute simu-lations carried out.

The transfer function of vector-controlled induction motor is represented along with both unstructured and structured uncertainty such as the error of rotor time constant and current ripple. The low-pass-filter behavior of a magnetizing inductance gets rid of unstructured uncertainty in the transfer function. The robust controller to compensate variation of the transfer function is designed using simple P-I linear controllers. The coefficients of speed PI controller are determined from an overshoot and a rising time of system and the coefficients of model-following PI controller are obtained using the solution of Riccati equation of LQR control in the state space equation of the error system. Experimental results with the DSP-based model-following robust controller are shown a good robustness against the structured uncertainty of the motor.
