  • The present paper is dealing with the investigation of the stress field around the infinitely long cylindrical cavity, of a circular cross section, contained in the transversally isotropic elastic continuum. Investigation is based upon the determination of the stress function that satisfies the biharmonic equation, for the given boundary conditions and for rotationaly symmetric loading. The solution of the partial differential equation of the problem is given in the form of infinite series of Bessel's functions. Determination of the stress-strain field around cavities is a common requirement for estimation of safety of underground rock excavations.

  • The axisymmetric buckling delamination of the Piezoelectric/Metal/Piezoelectric (PZT/Metal/PZT) sandwich circular plate with interface penny-shaped cracks is investigated. The case is considered where open-circuit conditions with respect to the electrical displacement on the upper and lower surfaces, and short-circuit conditions with respect to the electrical potential on the lateral surface of the face layers are satisfied. It is assumed that the edge surfaces of the cracks have an infinitesimal rotationally symmetric initial imperfection and the development of this imperfection with rotationally symmetric compressive forces acting on the lateral surface of the plate is studied by employing the exact geometrically non-linear field equations and relations of electro-elasticity for piezoelectric materials. The sought values are presented in the power series form with respect to the small parameter which characterizes the degree of the initial imperfection. The zeroth and first approximations are used for investigation of stability loss and buckling delamination problems. It is established that the equations and relations related to the first approximation coincide with the corresponding ones of the three-dimensional linearized theory of stability of electro-elasticity for piezoelectric materials. The quantities related to the zeroth approximation are determined analytically, however the quantities related to the first approximation are determined numerically by employing Finite Element Method (FEM). Numerical results on the critical radial stresses acting in the layers of the plate are presented and discussed. In particular, it is established that the piezoelectricity of the face layer material causes an increase (a decrease) in the values of the critical compressive stress acting in the face (core) layer.

  • 1)iscussed in this paper are the effects of phase modulation on the line spread functions (LSF) and MTFs of ;I binocular objective system. The binocular objective lens is made in Korea. It has rotationally symmetric aberrations. The LSFs and MTFs are measured experimentally. The phase modulation is carried out by applying phase retardation $\pi$ on the aperture. The area where the phase is not retarded presents a double annular type. The OTF curves of phase modulated aperture are compared with that of unmodulated aperture. The comparison shows that there is the aberration compensation effect in aberration loaded system. Therefore the performance of many optical system can be improved without any loss of light energy by properly modulating the phase on the aperture.

  • Interpreting a natural line drawing as a solid object requires simplifying assumptions in order to make the problem more tractable. Unfortunately, some of the assumptions made in the past have overly simplified the problem. Restricting the valency of vertices, and in particular allowing only trihedral vertices, distorts the problem, since algorithms which are satisfactory for the simplified problem are not satisfactory in the general case. This paper presents a test set of drawings of objects with higher-valency vertices. The intention in creating this test set is that it may be used to determine how effective various algorithms are in dealing with general (i.e. unrestricted) valency vertices.

  • An ecpert system for rotationally symmetric deep drawing products has been developed. The application for non-axisymmetric components, however, has not been reported yet. This study construsctus and expert system for non-axisymmetric motor frame which shape is classified into ellipse in deep draqing process and investigates process sequence design with elliptical shape. The developed system consists of four modules. The first is recognition of calculate surface area for non-axisymmetric products. The third is blank design module the creates an oval-shaped blank with the same surface area. The fourth is a processplanning module based on production rules that play the best important roles in an expert system for manufacturing .The production rules are generated and upgraded by interviewing field engineers. Especially, drawing coefficient, punch and die radii for elliptical shape products are considered as main design parameters. The constructed system for elliptical deep drawing product would be very useful to reduce lead time and improve accuracy for products.

  • Microlens made by laser radiation method have advantages in the easiness of their fabrication. The process is based on the projection of a chromium-on-quartz reticle on to the Polymer using a pulsed 248nm KrF excimer laser. Fabrication process is a fluence-dependent rate and density. The lens shape is defined by a rotationally symmetric sluence distribution with smooth radial variation in the image plane of the reticle. A typical lens of 50㎛ diameter was fabricated by irradiating 2000 laser pulses within 40 seconds. The experimental results show microlens fabrication by UV laser is possible and well worth studying further.

  • We studied the creation of fractal images with polygonal rotation symmetry. As in Loocke's method[13] we start with IFS of affine functions that create polygonal fractals and extends the IFS by adding functions that create Julia sets instead of adding square root functions. The resulting images are rotationally symmetric and Julia set shaped. Also we can improve fractal images by modifying probabilistic IFS algorithm, and we suggest a method of deforming Julia set by changing exponent value.

  • A computer-aided process planning system for rotationally symmetric deep drawing products has been developed. The application for non-axisymmetric components, however, has been reported yet. Therefore, this study investigates process sequence design in deep drawing process and constructs a computer-aided process planning system for non-axisymmetric motor frame products with elliptical shape. The system developed consists of three modules. The first one os a 3-dimensional modeling module to calculate surface area for non-axisymmetric products. The second one is a blank design module that creates an oval-shaped blank with the identical surface area. The third one is a process planning module based on production rules that play the best important roles in an expert system for manufacturing. The production rules are generated and upgraded by interviewing with field engineers. Especially, drawing coefficient, punch and die radii are considered as main design parameters. • The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to analyze circular waveguide transformer in order to match different two waveguides. 2-dimensional cylindrical FDTD algorithm is applied for rotationally symmetric. The transformer is inserted at a circular-to-circular waveguide junction and two type transformers are proposed. One is a partially dielectric filled circular waveguide type and the other is filled a tapered circular dielectric rod. The numerical results are derived for various structure parameters, such as transformer length. dielectric diameter and waveguide diameter.
