In this paper, 4-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) with 8-stator and 6-rotor pole structure is proposed for a high speed fan with a low voltage. The air blower has unidirectional rotation characteristics and requires a low torque ripple and noise as well as high efficiency. To achieve the requirements, voltage and current according to loading condition of limited specification is considered. Design process is to select the bore diameter, pole arc, york of stator and rotor to get a high torque and efficiency. To verify the validity of the proposed structure, finite element method(FEM) is employed to get the performances. And the converter for the proposed SRM is employed a 1.5q power converter for cost effectiveness. Prototype SRM is manufactured and tested, and the test results show this design is within the specification and good for the air blower applications.

In optical disk drive (ODD), disk rotation speed has been increasing rapidly to achieve high data transfer rate. High servo bandwidths for focusing and tracking actuator are required to follow dynamic disturbance by high rotation speed in ODD. However, the servo bandwidth is significantly limited by some vibration modes which are induced by the flexibility of moving part. In this work, the vibration modes affecting bandwidth of actuators are suppressed by modifying actuating force by VCM. For this, the relation between the horizontal component of the actuating force and vibration mode is analyzed and force characteristic affecting to vibration mode is obtained through electromagnetic and structural analysis using simulation program.
In this study an efficient method for detecting and monitoring engine misfiring, focusing on minute speed changes in the crankshaft is proposed., Its validity is verified using various misfiring cases. Typically, the crankshaft speed fluctuates around the normal value depending on the engine misfiring status. Even a minute speed change in the crankshaft can be estimated by measuring the rotation time of each tooth of the 118-tooth flywheel attached to the crankshaft with a 2-MHz timer. Therefore, a speed pattern for an in-line six-cylinder engine consists of 236 tooth rotation speeds corresponding to the two rotations of the crankshaft, in which all the cylinders complete four-stroke cycle. FFT analysis can reduce the number of components of a speed pattern from 236 to just four major components: - fundamental frequency_(f), 2f, 3f, 6f., - This makes the comparison of the misfiring cases simpler and faster. In the experiment, five engine status cases (one normal firing and, four misfiring cases) were simulated. While the 6f component was the largest for the normal case, the f component increased as misfiring occurred one, two apart, and two consecutive times. The 3D FFT pattern comprising the ratio of f, 2f, and 3f, 6f showed that the distance between the misfiring and normal states was larger

Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of corneal eccentricity and shape on the rotational pattern of toric soft lens by the postural change of lens wearers. Methods: The corneal eccentricity of 41 eyes (aged 20s) having -1.0 D with-the-rule corneal astigmatism (WRCA) was measured, and then toric soft lenses were fitted with the amount of total astigmatism. In lying and straight postures, the rotation of toric soft lenses was recorded by a camera attached to slitlamp and analyzed. Results: Most toric soft lens designed with accelerated stabilization rotated to the temporal direction, which was the lying position direction, regardless of corneal eccentricity, and some lenses rotated to the nasal direction for high corneal eccentricity and corneal type of asymmetric bowtie. There was no correlation between the amount of rotation and corneal eccentricity right after of contact lens wearing in straight and lying posture, however, the amount of rotation was the greater for the cornea with the higher eccentricity after the subjects laying down for some period. The speed of lens rotation started to decrease after the subjects laying down, but the speed was not different according to corneal eccentricity difference. The amount of lens rotation for symmetric and asymmetric bowtie-typed corneas increased more than it for oval-typed cornea, and it was same even with time elapsing. The speed of lens rotation in lying posture was the slowest in asymmetric bowtie-typed cornea compared with other corneal types. Conclusions: From the present study, it was revealed that the rotational pattern of toric soft lens was affected by corneal eccentricity and corneal shape when the wearer's posture changed. Thus, it should be considered for the development of the fitting guideline and the design of toric soft lens.

This paper presented is a case study of a real compressor rotor of a refinery plant for high speed balancing of flexible rotor. The rotor was tested in the expert high-speed balancing facility established by KIMM at early 2004. The capability of the facility can reach 40000rpm in rotation speed and 8 ton in rotor weight for high-speed balancing. The facility performs multi-plane at-speed balancing using influence coefficient from the vibration data measured at two pedestals. The test rotor had exceeded permissible criteria of vibration at initial run. But by processing a low-speed balancing at 1000 rpm and six trial run trying to calculate influence coefficient of rotor to the range of operating speed, the final result of high-speed balancing revealed a remarkable reduce of vibration at pedestal of the rotor.
It was found that mixing patterns suddenly changed at an impeller rotation speed in a dished bottom vessel with dual Rushton turbines. Two isolated mixing regions like doughnuts rings generated at a low rotational speed and three isolated mixing regions generated at a higher speed. This phenomenon was observed at the mixing condition in transition area, where the power number with baffle was the same as that without baffle. We found a phenomenon in which the flow state in a dish-bottom agitation tank equipped with a two-stage Rushton turbine blade changes at a certain rotational speed. In the laminar flow region, the isolated stable donut rings were formed even when the rotational speed was changed, and no specific variation in the mixing pattern was observed. In the transition region, the two isolated thick unmixed donut rings do not change even if the rotation speed is changed in the flat bottom vessel, whereas in the dished bottom vessel, when the rotation speed is 450 rpm, the two isolated thick unmixed donut rings are changed to three isolated thin donut rings and then improved mixing. In the dished bottom vessel, in the range of Re=138~178, the isolated ring-shaped unmixed region appeared in three places and the size was also large. But in the flat bottom vessel, the isolated thick ring-shaped unmixed region appeared in two places in Re=116~176 and the size was also small. It appeared in two places, and the size was also small. The condition in which this phenomenon is observed is a transition region, and it was found that when the baffle plate is attached, the power number starts to increase compared to when the baffle plate is not present. In addition, when the mixing Reynolds number exceeded 300 and a slight turbulence was mixed in the flow state, the disconnection of these flow pattern was resolved and the mixture was completely mixed.
Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) plasma is a new technique for use in environmental pollutant degradation, which is characterized by the production of hydroxyl radicals as the primary degradation species. Due to the short lifetime of the chemically active species generated during the plasma reaction, the dissolution of the plasma gas has a significant effect on the reaction performance. The plasma reaction performance can be enhanced by combining the basic plasma reactor with a homogenizer system in which the bubbles are destroyed and turned into micro-bubbles. For this purpose, the improvement of the dissolution of plasma gas was evaluated by measuring the RNO (N-dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline, an indicator of the generation of OH radicals). Experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the diameter, rotation speed, and height of the homogenizer, pore size, and number of the diffuser and the applied voltage on the plasma reaction. The results showed that the RNO removal efficiency of the plasma reactor combined with a homogenizer is two times higher than that of the conventional one. The optimum rotor size and rotation speed of the homogenizer were 15.1 mm, and 19,700 rpm, respectively. Except for the lowest pore size distribution of $10-16{\mu}m$, the pore size of the diffuser showed little effect on RNO removal.
This experimental study concerns the characteristics of vortex flow in a concentric annulus with a diameter ratio of 0.52, whose outer cylinder is stationary and inner one is rotating. Pressure losses and skin friction coefficients have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of 0.4% aqueous solution of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), respectively, when the inner cylinder rotates at the speed of 0~600 rpm. Also, the visualization of vortex flows has been performed to observe the unstable waves. The results of present study reveal the relation of the bulk flow Reynolds number Re and Rossby number Ro with respect to the skin friction coefficients. In somehow, they show the existence of flow instability mechanism. The effect of rotation on the skin friction coefficient is significantly dependent on the flow regime. The change of skin friction coefficient corresponding to the variation of rotating speed is large for the laminar flow regime, whereas it becomes smaller as Re increases for the transitional flow regime and. then, it gradually approach to zero for the turbulent flow regime. Consequently, the critical (bulk flow) Reynolds number Re$\_$c/ decreases as the rotational speed increases. Thus, the rotation of the inner cylinder promotes the onset of transition due to the excitation of Taylor vortices.

The dynamic behavior of two steel bridges crossed by the Korean High Speed Train(KHST) has been investigated experimentally and the results are compared with the specification requirement of BRDM and other typical PSC Box bridge's responses. The investigated bridges are a 2-girder steel bridge of 1@40m span length(E-Won Bridge), 2@50m span length (Ji-Tan Bridge), and a PSC Box girder bridge of 2@40m span length (Yeon-Jae Bridge). A set of experimental tests were performed during operation of KHST, and a number of accelerometers, LVDTs and ring-type displacement transducers were utilized for measurement of three kinds of dynamic responses (acceleration, deflection, and end-rotation angle). Measured responses show that the vertical deflections and end-rotation angles of the three bridges are all satisfying the spec. requirement with large margin, but it was also found acceleration responses which are very close or exceed the limit value. Most of the excessive acceleration responses were found when the passing velocity of the KHST is close to the critical velocity ($V_{cr}$) which causes resonance. No noticeable differences of dynamic responses due to the different materials(steel or concrete) could be found within these experimental results.
A prototype of Flywheel Energy Storage System with high Tc superconducting bearings was fabricated and tested to verify its applicability for the energy industry. The moment of inertia of assembled wheel with rotor magnets is about 1.072${\times}$10$^{-1}$ Kg-m$^2$. The wheel was designed to withstand its integrity up to the rotation speed of 20,000 rpm. YBCO bulk superconductors prepared by seed growth method were used as bearing to levitate and stabilize the rotating wheel. High speed rotation of the flywheel without mechanical contact was achieved by using specially designed Halbach type motor. The flywheel system showed very high stability during test operation performed up to the speed of about 10,000rpm. The energy loss measured by free decay test performed between 9,300 rpm and 7,000 rpm was calculated as about 45 W.
