  • The Okdong Fault is situated in Okdong-Hamchang area, the central part of Korea. The area consists of Precambrian gneisses and granitoids, Paleozoic clastic and carbonate rocks, and Mesozoic clastic rocks and igneous intrusives. The Okdong Fault is situated along contact boundary between the lowermost Cambrian Basal Quartzite and Precambrian basements. Mylonites occur as narrow zone which is extended over 100km and is restricted to within 10m-30m along the Okdong Fault. The main features of mylonites are quartz mylonite derived from Cambrian Basal Quartzite and mylonitic granitoids from Precambrian granitoids. Movement sense is deduced as a sinistral strike-slip movement with evidence of rotation of sheared porphyroclasts, rotation of fragments and S/C-bands. The mylonite zone has been reactivated as fault which reveals oblique-slip movement. The fault resurges as faults which reveals normal(to the NW) and reverse(to the SE) dip-slip movement. Normal faults are dominant in the northern and southern part and reverse or thrust faults are dominant in the central part of the Okdong Fault. The thrust movement can be correlated with the Daebo Orogeny of Jurassic Period. Granites and dyke rocks intruded into Paleozoic and Precambrian rocks during Cretaceous Period.

  • This retrospective study is designed to compare the clinical results of tibial tuberosity transposition (TTT) and anti-rotation suture (ARS) treatments for medial patellar luxation (MPL). Medical records of 133 dogs were reviewed that had undergone surgical correction of MPL between January 2013 and May 2017. MPL correction was performed on 182 stifles, with TTT and ARS being performed on 101 stifles and 81 stifles. The common dog breeds receiving surgical treatment for MPL were Maltese, Pomeranian, Chihuahua and Poodle. Mean age of dogs with MPL was 32.6 months, and their mean body weight was 4.26 kg. Seventy dogs (52.6%) were male and 63 (47.4%) were female. Of the 182 stifles with MPL, grade II, III and IV were 18.7%, 72.0% and 9.3%. Total complications after TTT and ARS were recorded in 16.8% and 29.6%. Major complications after TTT and ARS were recorded in 5.9% and 12.3%, minor complications after TTT and ARS were recorded in 10.9% and 17.3%. The risk of complication and reluxation rate after TTT were significantly lower than that for ARS (p < 0.05). However, the rate of reluxation among dogs treated by ARS (1.2%) for grade II MPL was significantly lower than that for dogs treated by ARS (8.6%) for grade III MPL (p < 0.05). The TTT group had a shorter recovery period after surgical intervention than that in the ARS group (p < 0.001). In conclusion, TTT had a significantly lower incidence of complication and a shorter recovery period than ARS. However, ARS for grade II MPL appears to be a good surgical option for reducing the rate of reluxation after surgery. These results of this study could be used to provide therapeutic guidelines for surgical MPL correction in small-breed dogs.

  • The performance simulation of a desiccant rotor, which is a core component of a desiccant cooling system, was conducted on the basis of a theoretical solution of the heat and mass transfer process in the rotor. The simulation model was validated by comparing simulation results with experimental data; reasonable agreement was observed. The effect of the rotation speed on the performance of the desiccant rotor was investigated for various operation conditions: temperature (50 to $70^{\circ}C$), humidity ratio (0.01 to 0.02 kg/kg DA), and flow rate of regeneration air. The optimum rotation speed was determined from the maximum moisture removal capacity (MRC) of the desiccant rotor, and it was found to vary with the operation conditions. Further, the correlation for the optimum rotation speed was determined by regression analysis.

  • This paper proposes a Carrier-Rotation (CR) PWM technique that is a new solution for the voltage unbalancing problem of flying capacitors in the Flying Capacitor Multi-level Inverter (FCMI). The proposed technique equalizes the utilization of phase leg voltage redundancies corresponding to the charging and the discharging state of individual flying capacitors during each switching period of all the switches. Therefore, the charging and the discharging quantity of flying capacitors are equal, which makes the average variation of flying capacitor voltages become zero and keeps their voltage stable during minimum specified period. It also has the reduced harmonic contents of output voltage and the same switch utilization since all the carrier signals are in phase and the switching frequency of each switch is identical. The proposed technique is analyzed precisely in flying capacitor 3-level inverter and then it has expanded to the FCMI (N-level, N>3). Experimental results on the laboratory prototype flying capacitor 3-level inverter confirm the validity of the proposed technique.

  • To select rotation crops for control of clubroot of Chinese cabbage, potato, corn, soybean, onion and groundsel were planted in the field infected with clubroot pathogen (Plasmodiophora brassicae) in highland area in 2000. In comparison of economical efficiency among rotation crops, potato and onion gained about 16.9 and 14.9 times higher, respectively, than successive cultivation of Chinese cabbage. Resting spore densities of Plasmodiophora brassicae after harvesting rotation crops were in the range of $0.3{\sim}1.2{\times}10^3/g$ soil in all cultivated soils with rotation crops while that of successive Chinese cabbage cultivation soil was very high as much as $89.3{\times}10^3/g$ soil. And disease severity of Chinese cabbage clubroot was 4.9, 20.2, 24.4, 25.1 and 27.8% in onion, soybean, potato, corn, and groundsel cultivation plot, respectively, while that of successive Chinese cabbage cultivation plot was very high as 77.8%. Effect of rotation period of onion, potato, soybean on disease control was investigated from 2002 to 2005. Resting spore densities of Plasmodiophora brassicae after cultivating rotation crops were decreased until $2^{nd}$ year and maintained low density at $3^{rd}$ year in all plots, while that of successive Chinese cabbage cultivation plot was increased 2.6 to 23.6 times for three years. When Chinese cabbage was rotation-cultivated with potato, soybean and onion for three years, disease severities of Chinese cabbage clubroot decreased 92 to 4.4%, 72 to 10.4% and 72 to 12.2%, respectively, while that of successive Chinese cabbage cultivation plot maintained 100%. As the rotation period increased, the yields of Chinese cabbage increased, while that of successive Chinese cabbage cultivation plot decreased. At $3^{rd}$ year, Chinese cabbage with high quality could be much more produced 2,205, 2,493 and 2,476 g in potato, soybean and onion cultivation plot, respectively, than 95 g in successive Chinese cabbage cultivation plot.

  • In this paper, we investigate the correlation result due to the problems of delay tracking and fringe rotation module in the VCS(VLBI Correlation Subsystem). The VCS, FX-type correlator, adopts the delay tracking and fringe rotation module in order to compensate the delay change and fringe phase of wave signal from the radio source by Doppler's effect. The phase of observed data is also compensated by means of delay tracking and fringe rotation in the correlator, but we confirmed that the phase is unstable by applying long integration period of AIPS(Astronomical Image Processing System) rather than correlator. And the delay value of observed data has the errors of several tens nanoseconds than normal case at the analysis of correlation result. In addition, we found that the phase of correlation results is not connected as the unit of FFT-segment because the initial fringe phase at the fringe rotation module is not correctly determined. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, the original direction of 90 degree phase jump is reversely modified when the bit-shift occurred at the delay tracking. And the initial fringe phase at the fringe rotation module is correctly modified by using the initial phase of observed data. In addition, the parameter calculation module was abnormally operated as designed in the fringe rotation. So, the logical program by the VCS is modified so as to calculate the parameters correctly. Through the experiments of correlation processing over the above problems, the modified proposal algorithm is adequately corrected to the data analysis results, so that the experimental results make it clear for us to operate the developed VCS hardware correlator normally.

  • A laboratory experiment was made of a control of temperature oscillation in Czochralski convection. Numerical computation was also made to delineate the control of temperature oscillation. The suppression of temperature oscillation was achieved by varying the rotation rate of crystal rod ($\Omega=\Omega_0(1+A sin 2{\pi}ft/t_p)$), where A denotes the amplitude of rotation rate and f the frequency factor. Based on the inherent dimesionless time period of temperature oscillation ($t_p$), the suppression rate of temperature oscillation was characterized by the mixed convection parameter ($0.217{\leq}Ra/PrRe^2{\leq}1.658$). The optimal values of A and f were also scrutinized. To understand the suppression mechanism of temperature oscillation, the controls of isotherm($\theta$) and equi-vorticity($\omega$) were investigated.

  • Background In lower lateral cartilage (LLC) surgery, cephalic trimming poses risks for the collapse of the internal and external nasal valves, pinched nose, and drooping deformity. The cephalic lateral crural advancement (CLCA) technique presented herein was aimed at using a flap to increase nasal tip rotation and support the lateral crus, in addition to the internal and external nasal valves, by avoiding grafts without performing excision. Methods This study included 32 patients (18 female and 14 male) and the follow-up period for patients having undergone primer open rhinoplasty was 12 months. The LLC was elevated from the vestibular skin using the CLCA flap. A cephalic incision was performed without cephalic trimming. Two independent flaps were formed while preserving the scroll ligament complex. The CLCA flap was advanced onto the lower lateral crus while leaving the scroll area intact. The obtained data were analyzed retrospectively. Results The mean age of the patients was 31.6 years (range, 20-51 years). The Rhinoplasty Outcome Examination scores after 12 months varied from 90 to100 points, and 93% of patients reported perfect satisfaction. At a 1-year follow-up, the patients' nasal patency (visual analogue scale) rose from 4.56±1.53 (out of 10) to 9.0±0.65 (P<0.001). Conclusions The CLCA flap led to better nasal tip definition by protecting the scroll area, increasing tip rotation, and supporting the internal and external nasal valves without cephalic excision.
