야콘 뿌리 추출액 코팅 쌀 제조 및 항산화력과 관능적 품질 연구 (A Study on the Development of Cooked Rice according to the Different Coating Ratio of Yacon(Polymia sonchifolia) Root and Its Antioxidant and Sensory Properties)

  • The objective of this study was to develop functional rice coated with yacon roots extracts and to evaluate the antioxidant properties and physiological activity of rice coated with yacon extract. The washed rice was coated by spraying yacon extract at 10, 20, 30, and $40^{\circ}Brix$ and dried at room temperature. The moisture contents, color changes, antioxidant properties as total polyphenolics and DPPH radical scavenging activity and instrumental texture property and sensory evaluation change in the yacon root extracts coated rice and uncoated cooked rice were observed during 3 days of storage. Increasing the coating concentration was associated with lower color values(L value) and moisture contents. Total phenolics and DPPH radical scavenging properties generally increased in the cooked rice coated with yacon root extract more than the control (non-coated rice). However, D-20($20^{\circ}Brix$ of the yacon root concentration) resulted in better textural properties and sensory overall acceptability in cooked rice on 0 and 3 storage days. It was concluded that the optimum coating ration of rice and added functional yacon rice were $20^{\circ}Brix$ and 7% respectively, in proportion to the total weight of raw rice.

치아 근관 세척용 마이크로 기포 세정 시스템 개발 및 성능평가 (Development and performance test of a micro bubble irrigation system for root canal cleaning of tooth)

  • Elimination of the smear layer and bacteria in the root canal is the most important in the endodontic treatment, and various irrigation devices have been developed. Nevertheless, it is hard to eliminate the smear layer and bacteria completely. In this paper, a micro bubble irrigation system has been developed for the root canal cleaning of tooth. Micro bubbles are generated when pressurized fluids passing through a porous material inside a hand-piece nozzle, and the bubbly flows excited by ultrasonic vibration are observed using a high-speed camera and a microscope. The results show that the diameter and number of bubbles increases with the applied pressure, and there found an optimum excitation frequency in order to minimize the bubble size. From in-vitro tests, it is also verified that the developed bubble irrigation system has the ability of antibacterial and infection removal. Thus, this biocompatible system would be well suited for root canal cleaning.

  • Ginseng root starch, prepared by conventional method, contained crude lipid of 0.5%, crude protein of 0.4%, crude mineral of 0.17% and phosphorous of 12.5mg% as noncarbohydrate constituents. The amylose content of ginseng root starch picked in Summer (May to August) and Winter (November to March) was 32-35% and 15-20%, respectively, and it was decreased with a growing preiod of ginseng. The blue value, alkali number and ferricyanide number of the starch were 0.14-0.17, 8.50 and 0.781, respectively. The molecular weight of amylose in the starch was estimated to be 1.27-7.95${\times}$105 by means of periodate oxidation, and the degree of branching and glucose unit per segment of amylopectin were 3.50-3.53% and 28.3-28.5, respectively, The starch content of ginseng root was decreased when dried under sunlight and stored at 5$^{\circ}C$ for twenty days. In contrast, sucrose content in the root was increased from 3.8% in fresh state to 11.5% during storage at the above condition. In the other hand, starch was converted to maltose by heating at temperature above 70$^{\circ}C$.

Functional Analysis of ESTs from the 14-year Root of Korean Ginseng

  • To assist genetic study of the root development in Panax ginseng, which is one of the most important medicinal plant, expressed sequence tags (EST) analysis was carried out. We constructed a cDNA library using the 14-year ginseng root. Partial sequences were obtained from 2,975 clone. The ESTs could be clustered into 1,991 (70.2%) non-redundant groups. Similarity search of the non-redundant ESTs against public non-redundant databases of both protein and DNA indicated that 1,553 groups show similarity to genes of blown function. These ESTs clones were divided into sixteen categories depending upon gene function. The most abundant transcripts were ribonuclease 1 (67) and ribonuclease 2 (65). Our extensive EST analysis of genes expressed in 14-year ginseng root not only contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of genome expression patterns in root organ but also adds data to the reperoire of all genomic genes.

인삼의 품질 연구 현황 및 문제점 (Status of Research on Ginseng Quality and its Problem)

  • Ginseng has been used as a medicinal herb in the world for more than two thousand years. Inspection of the quality of ginseng was made since many hundred years ago. Ginseng quality has been graded by several methodes, based on saponin contents, number of ginsenosides, shape of root and tissue elaborateness. In present. ginseng products are usually evaluated by saponin contents and number of ginsenosides. On the other hand, fresh and manufactured ginseng roots such as red. white and semi-red ginseng, Taegeuk Sam, are mostly graded by root shape such as root development and skin (epidermis) color, and tissue elaborateness. which is a conventional grading method. However, the root shape grading method has a risk of overlooking real medicinal properties of ginseng. So. both the medicinal ingredients and the conventional grading method should be considered for the proper evaluation of ginseng quality. Therefore, for the establishment of better method in evaluating ginseng quality, the relationships of root shape and useful components are required to be studied.

비정상 맹출로와 치근 만곡을 지닌 매복 상악영구전치의 자가치아이식 치험례 (SURGICAL REPOSITIONING OF THE DISPLACED IMPACTED MAXILLARY CENTRAL INCISOR WITH DILACERATED ROOT : CASE REPORT)

  • 매복치의 치료는 그 발생원인, 치아의 발육단계, 매복된 위치 및 맹출 경로, 환자의 협조도 등을 고려하여 치료방법을 결정한다. 일반적으로 맹출에 영향을 줄 수 있는 유전적, 전신적 유발인자가 있다면 이의 치료와 더불어 맹출 유도를 위한 조기치료의 필요성이 있으며, 맹출에 장애를 주는 물리적 요소가 존재한다면 이를 우선적으로 제거해야 한다. 그러나 맹출과 관련된 어떠한 요인이나 맹출공간 부족 등이 발견되지 않았다면 유치 발거 이외에 치아를 외과적으로 노출시킨 후 교정장치를 부착하고 교정력을 이용하는 치아맹출 유도법, 그리고 매복치를 외과적 재위치 또는 이식하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 자가치아이식술을 시행할 경우 치아발육 상태를 고려한 적절한 시기의 선택, 적절한 치조와 형성 및 이식치아의 발거와 식립에 있어 외상의 최소화 등이 성공에 중요한 요소다. 본 증례에서는 상악우측중절치의 미맹출을 주소로 내원한 7세 여자 환자에서 CT검사결과 상악우측중절치의 치관부가 전비극에 근접하여 협측으로 위치되어 있으며 치관부에서 만곡이 관찰되었다. 치근은 Nolla's stage 7정도의 발육을 보였으며 이에 자가치아이식을 시행하였다. 주기적인 관찰결과 치근흡수 등의 합병증 없이 양호한 치유양상이 관찰되었다.

오이 뿌리혹선충병에 대한 효율적인 저항성 검정법 확립 (Development of Efficient Screening Methods for Resistant Cucumber Plants to Meloidogyne incognita)

  • 연작 재배로 인하여 뿌리혹선충(Meloidogyne incognita)과 같은 식물 기생 선충에 의한 피해는 오이 재배 면적이 늘어나면서 크게 늘어나고 있다. 이러한 생산량의 감소 피해를 해결하기 위한 친환경적인 방제 방법으로 경종적 방제의 저항성 품종을 이용한 재배가 점차 증가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 새로운 저항성 육종 소재를 찾기 위한 효율적인 저항성 검정 방법을 확립하기 위하여, 뿌리혹선충 M. incognita를 이용한 오이의 선충병 발생 정도를 접종원 농도, 오이 생육 시기 및 이식 시기 등의 다양한 발병 조건에 따라 오이 4개 품종('드레곤삼척', 아시아스트라이크', '네박자', '하늘백다다기')을 대상으로 조사하였다. 접종원의 접종 농도가 증가 할수록 오이의 뿌리혹선충병 발생은 농도 의존적으로 증가되었지만, 오이의 생육 시기 및 이식 시기에 따른 오이의 뿌리혹선충병 발생은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 따라서, 오이 품종의 뿌리혹선충병 저항성 검정 조건으로 온실($25{\pm}5^{\circ}C$)에서 파종 후 21일간 재배하고, 이식한지 7일 후에 5,000개의 뿌리혹선충 알 접종으로 45일 이후에 병 조사를 하는 것이 적합함을 알 수 있었다. 적정한 발병 조건에 따라 시판 중인 오이 45개 품종의 뿌리혹선충에 대한 저항성 정도를 조사한 결과, 대목 6개 품종에서 난낭수 100개 이하의 뿌리혹선충병 발생 정도를 보였고, 특히 '유니온' 대목 품종은 중간 저항성으로 조사되었다. 그 외 실험한 모든 품종들은 유사한 정도의 높은 감수성을 나타냈다. 이들 결과들을 바탕으로 M. incognita에 대한 오이 품종의 저항성 정도를 검정하기 위한 효율적인 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

돼지 단위 발생 난자의 체외 발달에 있어서 피라칸타 추출액의 처리 효과 (Pyracantha Extract Acts as an Antioxidant Agent to Support Porcine Parthenogenetic Embryo Development In Vitro)

  • Pyracantha is a genus of thorny evergreen large shrubs in the family of Rosaceae, with common names Firethorn or Pyracantha. It's extract has also been used in cosmetics as a skin-whitening agent and functioning through tyrosinase inhibition. Recent studies have shown that pyracantha extract possesses antioxidant activities and may significantly improve lipoprotein metabolism in rats. Although the mode of action of Pyracantha extract is not fully understood, a strong relationship was observed between antioxidant and apoptosis in some types of cells. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluated the effect of pyracantha extract on blastocysts formation and their quality of the porcine parthenogenetic embryos. After parthenogenetic activation by chemicals, presumptive porcine parthenogenetic embryos were cultured in PZM-3 medium supplemented with extracts of pyracantha leaf, stalk and root for 6 day (1, 5 and $10{\mu}g/ml$, respectively). In our results, the frequency of blastocyst formation in pyracantha root extract ($5{\mu}g/ml$) treated group had increased that of other groups. Furthermore, blastocysts derived from pyracantha root extract ($5{\mu}g/ml$) treated group had increased the total cell numbers and reduced apoptotic index. Blastocyst development was significantly improved in the pyracantha root extract ($5{\mu}g/ml$) treated group when compared with the $H_2O_2$ treated group (p<0.05). Subsequent evaluation of the intracellular levels of ROS in pyracantha root extract ($5{\mu}g/ml$) treated groups under $H_2O_2$ induced oxidative stress were decreased (p<0.05). In conclusion, our results indicate that treatment of pyracantha root extract may improve in vitro development of porcine parthenogenetic embryos through its antioxidative and antiapoptotic effects.
