  • In this paper a self-tuning control algorithm has been utilized to control speed of a rolling mill DC drive system. Inner current control loop is composed of predictive current controller and the outer speed control loop is composed of the self-tuning PI or IP controller. Computer simulation results reveal that the adaptive control algorithm using self-tuning control is capable of following the typical set point variations required for a rolling mill in conjunction with load torque variations on the shaft of the drive.

  • Control of crown and flatness in plate rolling is important not only for enhancement of the structural precision of products, but also for improving the yield and rolling operation. In the heavy plate mill, there have been strong demands for upgrading plate crown and flatness. In order to satisfy these demands, it is essential to develop the high precision numerical models. This paper gives a general description of the crown and flatness preset control model, work roll bender system, simulation result for shape control.

  • A fast, accurate model for calculating roll gap variables are critical to the implementation of computer based automation systems for cold rolling mills. Based on the work of Fleck and Johnson, rollgap simulator with non-circular arc model was developed using the influence function. This developed model is capable of predicting values of force, torque and slip which can be applied over the wide range of rolling conditions including cold rolling/DR/temper mill with high execution speed. Friction coefficient was obtained as a function of operation conditions through analyzing measured data. After combination of rollgap simulator with production strategy, draft schedule for No.3 RCM (Reversible Cold Rolling Mill) in Incheon works of Dongbu Steel was developed. This draft schedule will be installed in the setup computer of No.3 RCM replacing old Hitachi model.

열간 연속판재 압연기의 작업롤 전동피로해석 (Analysis of the Rolling Contact Fatigue for Work Roll in Finishing Mill of Hot Strip Rolling)

  • According to the number of cold-rolled coils, the amount of roll wear and thermal expansion, and roll gap profile were calculated, by using the actual data from the finishing mill. Also, based on those data, the calculations of the deflection, the flattening, and the contact pressure of vwork rolls and backup rolls were made respectively. Specially, in the calculation of contact pressure, the numerical results were obtained not only during the normal rolling, but also during the abnormal rolling, by modeling mathematically the dynamic impact force which occurs when the head section of the strip is threading through rolls. With those results the growth of the fatigue region and the fatigue damage of rolls were predicted. Also the optimum roll-grinding depth was determined to maximize the roll life.

  • In the cold rolling mill, it is very important that a constrained static flow stress of rolled strip and rolling force calculation model be exactly considered to improve an prediction accuracy for rolling forces. Therefore, in this study, the values of the constrained static flow stress are used by deriving the regression equation which is a function of rolling conditions(FDT, CT) and chemical compositions(C, Si, Mn), previously applied by making the tables of yield strength for hot coils with size. And with the consideration that an elastic deformation part of an rolled strip appears at the entry and delivery side of the contacting area between the work roll and rolled strip is calculated. By applying these methods, the more accurate prediction for rolling force is obtained. As a results, the deviation of thickness is significantly reduced in the rolling direction.

  • A laboratory scale hot strip rolling wear simulator(HRWS) was developed for the purpose of investigating the tribological phenomena occurred in production hot strip rolling mills. The HRWS' main parts are the electric heater, the mechanical descaler, tandem type 2-4Hi rolling mill stands, the cooling chamber, the tension controller and coiler. By simulating the tribelogical phenomena in rolling process at laboratory, wear patterns, cracks, cat-ear wear, black film, effect of hot rolling oil lubrication, etc. were reproduced, and discussed on the performace of simulator.

냉간 압연기에서 작업롤의 질량 불평형에 관한 연구 (Investigation of Unbalanced Mass of a Work Roll in a Cold Rolling Mill)

  • 압연공정 중에 작업롤은 스트립과의 지속적인 마찰에 의해 마모가 발생하여, 질량 불평형이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 작업롤의 질량 불평형을 고려한 압연기의 수학적 모델을 제안하였고, 이 모델은 실험에 의해 검증되었다. 작업롤은 편심을 가진 강체 로터로 가정되어, 질량 불평형의 채터 진동에 대한 영향을 분석하였다. 스핀들의 준평형 해석을 통해 계산된 조인트 힘은 압연기의 작업롤에 외력으로 작용시켰다. 압연기의 운동방정식을 직접적분법으로 풀어 과도 응답을 얻고 주파수 분석을 수행하였다. 편심은 수직 방향의 진동보다 수평 방향의 진동에 더 큰 영향을 끼쳤는데, 작업롤 반경의 1%의 편심거리도 수평 방향 채터 주파수의 진폭을 크게 상승시킬 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다.

군집기반 열간조압연설비 상태모니터링과 진단 (Clustering-based Monitoring and Fault detection in Hot Strip Roughing Mill)

  • Purpose: Hot strip rolling mill consists of a lot of mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis phase, various units could be failed with unknown reasons. In this study, we propose an effective method to detect early the units with abnormal status to minimize system downtime. Methods: The early warning problem with various units is defined. K-means and PAM algorithm with Euclidean and Manhattan distances were performed to detect the abnormal status. In addition, an performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated by field data analysis. Results: PAM with Manhattan distance(PAM_ManD) showed better results than K-means algorithm with Euclidean distance(K-means_ED). In addition, we could know from multivariate field data analysis that the system reliability of hot strip rolling mill can be increased by detecting early abnormal status. Conclusion: In this paper, clustering-based monitoring and fault detection algorithm using Manhattan distance is proposed. Experiments are performed to study the benefit of the PAM with Manhattan distance against the K-means with Euclidean distance.

  • 본 연구에서는 전술한 바와 같은 반복되는 압연부하에 의한 롤의 피로특성을 규명하기 위해 열연공장의 조압연기중 표본작업 롤의 피로특성을 규명하기 위해 열연 공장의 조압연기중 표본 작업 롤을 선정하고 일정기간의 사용이력을 조사하였으며, 이 를 토대로 롤내부 온도 및 열응력 계산을 수행하여 압연중 발생되는 피로 균열의 크기 를 정량화 시켜보았다. 또 표면 균열관찰 실험 및 롤 표면흠 대응 실험을 통해 피로 균열이 압연판의 표면품질에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 조사해보았다.

열간 선재 압연기에서 작업롤 베어링의 외측링 파손에 관한 연구 (Study on Failure in Outer Ring of Work Roll Bearing in Hot Rod Rolling Mill)

  • A finite element analysis-based approach which investigates the causes of the breakdown in the outer ring of the choke at hot rod rolling mill is presented. Two-dimensional drawings of the whole vertical-type mill stand are transformed into three-dimensional CAD models. Non-linear elasto-plastic deformation analysis of material at the roll gap is performed for computing roll force and torque of the work roll. Then, the reaction forces of the bearing rings together with a set of roller bearings that support the work roll are obtained by means of rigid body motion analysis. Finally, stress behaviors in the bearing rings together with a set of roller bearings that support the work roll are investigated by linear elastic analysis. Results reveal that stress at the contact area between the outer ring and roller bearing is extraordinary high when an internal gap between an external surface of the outer ring and the internal surface of the chock due to wear of the inside of the chock occurs.
