This study deals with the proper conditions of the trail rolling method (TRM) for the prevention of the buckling welding distortion at the AA5083 GMA butt weldment. For it, the effect of the working conditions of TRM including the rolling depth and the rolling distance between the welding torch and the roller on the longitudinal welding shrinkage force of the weldment was evaluated by using 3 dimensional thermo-mechanical FE analyses. The longitudinal welding shrinkage force inducing the buckling welding distortion at the GMA butt weldment was mitigated with an increase in the rolling depth and the rolling distance between the welding torch and the roller. Based on the results, the proper conditions of trail rolling method were established to reduce the longitudinal welding shrinkage force of the GMA butt weldment to below the critical value corresponding to the bucking distortion.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of shoes with curved out-sole on the pressure, reaction force(sum of pressure) on foot and relations between the rolling speeds and pronation of foot. The foot pressure, reaction force and pressure center on the foot surface of shoe were measured with NOVEL padar system, and 3 type shoes were used to compare the position and speed of pressure center and the foot reaction force, which were s(target) shoe with soft cushions in middle part of out-sole and curved out-sole, m shoes with two type- soft, hard, hardness out-sole and curved out-sole and n shoes with flat out-sole. The subjects were 13 female university students, had weared the 3 type shoes for 6 weeks on two-weeks shifts for adaptation before experiment and put on 3-type shoes repeatedly and randomly and walked on treadmill with 3.5km/h and 80 steps/min. The data were captured with 30Hz and readjusted with 5kgf threshold reaction force. The results can be summarized as follow. 1. There were no difference in maximum reaction force on initial contact period and total foot impact, but statistical difference in maximum reaction force on takeoff period : s, m, n in ascending order. 2. There were some difference in rolling speeds for support periods. At initial contact, the rolling speed of s shoes was fastest but at periods between first and second maximum reaction force, that of m shoes fastest. 3. There was a negative relation between rolling speeds and the length of lever arm on initial reaction force related to pronation. It seems shoes with various curved shapes and hardness could make effects on the rolling features and the rolling speed also have some relationships with walking efficiency, absortion of impact and pronation.
The capability of accurately predicting the roll force profile across a strip in the bite zone in cold rolling process is vital for the calculation of strip profile. This paper presents a derivation of a precision mathematical model for predicting variations in the roll force across a strip in cold rolling. While the derivation is based on an approximate 3-D theory of rolling, this mathematical model also considers plastic deformation in the pre-deformation region which is located close to the roll entrance before the strip enters the bite zone. Finally, the mathematical model is expressed as a boundary value problem, and it predicts the roll force profile and tension profile in addition to lateral plastic strain profile.
Cold rolling mill process in steel works uses stands of rolls to flatten a strip to a desired thickness. Most of rolling processes use mathematical models to predict rolling force which is very important to decide the resultant thickness of a coil. In general, these mathematical models are not flexible for variant coil types and cannot handle various elements which is practically important to decide accurate rolling force. A corrective neural network is proposed to improve the accuracy of rolling force prediction. Additional variables-composition of the coil, coiling temperature and working roll parameters-are fed to the network. The model uses an MLP with BP to predict a corrective coefficient. The test results using 1,586 process data collected at POSCO in early 1995 show that the proposed model reduced the prediction error by 30% on average.

Thickness control of hot-rolled strips has become an important issue in recent years because of the need for improving the quality of the hot-rolled strip. In this study, a modifying method of rolling force set-up with consideration of spread was developed to improve the thickness uniformity at the finishing rolling units in hot rolling. Through the analysis of real production data it was found that the accuracy of the rolling force determined from the finishing mill set-up (FSU) model dominantly governed the thickness uniformity in rolled plates at the front. Based on this analysis , several examples were selected to calculate the spread of rolled plate using three dimensional rigid thermo-viscoplastic finite element program. FE analysis results were used to train the neural network system that can predict the spread hot-rolled plate and the rolling force was modified based on the predicted value of spread. The modified rolling forces were closer to the measured rolling force so it can be expected that the accuracy of thickness uniformity of hot-rolled plate will be improved.

The research presents an analytical theory to calculate the characteristics of the bal bearing with waviness in its rolling elements considering the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of bal. The effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment are introduced to the kinematic constraints and force equilibrium equations. and the waviness of rolling elements is modeled by sinusoidal function to calculate the contact force at each ball. The numerical solutions of governing equation of berating due to waviness are calculated by using the Newton-Raphson method. The accuracy of the research is validated by comparing the contact force. contact angle in case of considering the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of bal and the contact force and vibration frequencies in cases of considering waviness with the prior researches respectively. It investigates the stiffness, contact force. displacement and vibration frequencies of the ball bearing considering not only the centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment of ball but also the waviness of the rolling elements.

The control model in the tandem cold rolling mill consists of many mathematical theories and is used to calculate the reference values such as the roll gap and the rolling speed for good operation of rolling mill. But, the control model used presently has a problem causing inaccurate prediction of the rolling force. By the parameter identification, it was found that the main factor causing inaccurate prediction of the rolling force was incorrect modeling of the friction coefficient and the flow stress. To get rid of the erroneous factor new adaptive schemes are suggested in this work. Those are a long-time adaptation by the iterative least-square method and a short-time adaptation by the recursive weighted least-square method respectively. The new equations for the friction coefficient and the flow stress are derived by applying the suggested adaptive algorithms. Through the on-line test in an actual mill, it is proved that the rolling force predicted by the new equations is more accurate than the one by the existing equations ever used.

In the cold rolling mill, it is very important that a constrained static flow stress of rolled strip and rolling force calculation model be exactly considered to improve an prediction accuracy for rolling forces. Therefore, in this study, the values of the constrained static flow stress are used by deriving the regression equation which is a function of rolling conditions(FDT, CT) and chemical compositions(C, Si, Mn), previously applied by making the tables of yield strength for hot coils with size. And with the consideration that an elastic deformation part of an rolled strip appears at the entry and delivery side of the contacting area between the work roll and rolled strip is calculated. By applying these methods, the more accurate prediction for rolling force is obtained. As a results, the deviation of thickness is significantly reduced in the rolling direction.
This paper proposes a precise mathematical model for the prediction of the variation of the roll force across a strip in cold rolling. It further describes the deformation characteristics of the strip using a 3-D finite element method. The different features of hot rolling and cold rolling through a 3-D finite element method are shown. The predicted roll force profile and tension profile are verified through comparison with the prediction from a 3-D finite element method.
In this paper, the slab method have been applied to investigate the strip casting process in which hot coil is produced from molten steel directly. In the twin roll strip casting process, molten steel supplied by the nozzle cools and solidifies due to the heat extraction effect of the rolls and hot rolling of the solidified shell takes place simultaneously. The analysis of hot rolling has been carried out by using the existing results of solidification analysis for the twin roll strip casting process. The current slab method provides basic design data such as roll separation force, rolling torque, rolling power as well as end dam separation force which are required to design strip caster. The effect of friction on the basic process parameters are investigated also. It is shown that the use of appropriate friction coefficient is important and that the characteristics of hot rolling in the twin-roll strip casting process is quite different from the conventional hot rolling processes.
