  • Thermal stability and dry sliding wear behavior of ultra-fine grained 6061 Al alloy fabricated by an accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) process have been investigated. After 4 ARB cycles, an ultra-fine grained microstructure of the 6061 Al alloy composed of grains with average size of 500nm, and separated mostly by high-angle boundaries was obtained. Though hardness and tensile strength of the ARB processed Al alloy increased with ARB cycles up to 4 cycles, the processed alloy exhibited decreased ductility and little strain hardening. Thermal stability of the ARB-processed microstructure was studied by annealing of the severely deformed alloy at $423K{\sim}573K$. The refined microstructure of the alloy remained stable up to 473K, and the peak aging treatment of the alloy at 450K for 8 hrs increased the thermal stability of the alloy. Sliding-wear rates of the alloy increased with the number of ARB cycles in spite of the increased hardness with the cycles. Wear mechanisms of the ultra-fine grained alloy were investigated by examining worn surfaces, wear debris, and cross-sections by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

  • A deoxidized low-phosphorous copper processed by eight cycles of accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) was annealed at various temperatures ranging from 100 to $400^{\circ}C$. The annealed copper was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile & hardness test. TEM observation revealed that the ultrafine grains developed by the ARB still remained up to $350^{\circ}C$, however above $400^{\circ}C$ they were replaced by equiaxed and coarse grains due to an occurrence of the static recrystallization. The hardness of the copper decreased slightly with the annealing temperature up to $350^{\circ}C$, however they dropped largely above $400^{\circ}C$. Annealing characteristics of the copper were compared with those of an oxygen free copper processed by ARB and subsequently annealed.

  • An oxygen free copper severely-deformed by eight cycles (an equivalent strain of $\~6.4$) of accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) was annealed at various temperatures ranging from 100 to $300^{\circ}C$. The annealed copper was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile & hardness test. TEM observation revealed that the ultrafine grains developed by the ARB still remained up to $150^{\circ}C$, however above $200^{\circ}C$ they were replaced by equiaxed and coarse grains due to an occurrence of the static recrystallization. Tensile strength and hardness of the copper decreased slightly with the annealing temperature up to $150^{\circ}C$, however they dropped largely above $200^{\circ}C$. Annealing characteristics of the copper were compared with those of a commercially pure aluminum processed by ARB and subsequently annealed.

  • Roll forming process is one of the most widely used processes in the world for forming metals such as a furniture drawer guide or an up and down slide guide. It can manufacture goods of the uniform cross section on a large scale throughout the continuous processing. In the domestic design and manufacture, roll forming process for production is taking most of the method of 2-point under rail slide. However, this method is vulnerable to the structural strength and stiffness is not suitable for high load conditions. Therefore, through systematic study of high load, low noise 3-point ball type of under rail slide its own design and manufacturing technology is the need to build. In this paper, to make center member of 3-point ball-type under rail slide for the refrigerator doors, the roll forming modeling and simulation are performed. Tensile test is performed about SCP-1 1/2H for determine the mechanical properties of materials. Modeling and simulation of roll forming is used MSC.MARC software of a dedicated analysis program used by rigid plastic finite element method. Interference between the roll and the final shape are predicted from the results of the simulation.

  • Recently, automobile industries have been developing many structural automotive parts made of thin, high-strength steel strips to produce safer and more environmentally friendly cars. The roll forming process has been considered one of the most efficient processes in manufacturing high-strength steel parts because it is a high-speed process that forms sheets in increments. However, most automotive parts vary longitudinally in their cross-sections. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the roll forming process to automotive parts made of high-strength steel. A variable section roll forming process has been proposed in recent studies. The rotational axes of the forming rolls are fixed, and the forming rolls have three-dimensional shape. As such, the cross-section of the part varies linearly along its length, and the angle between the bend line and longitudinal axis is less than 1 degree. Thus, the rate of cross-sectional variation along the length is relatively small. In this study, the rate of cross-sectional change along the length of a forming roll has been increased. Moreover, the angle between the bend line and longitudinal axis has been increased up to 15 degrees. The variable sections of the forming rolls have been designed for high strength steel parts with a symmetric u-type cross-section that varies linearly and symmetrically along the longitudinal axis.

  • A cold roll-bonding process was applied to fabricate an AA1050/AA6061/AA1050 laminate complex sheet. Two AA1050 and one AA6061 sheets of 2 mm thickness, 40 mm width and 300 mm length were stacked up after surface treatment that included degreasing and wire brushing; material was then reduced to a thickness of 3 mm by one-pass cold rolling. The laminate sheet bonded by the rolling was further reduced to 1.2 mm in thickness by conventional rolling. The rolling was performed at ambient temperature without lubricant using a 2-high mill with a roll diameter of 210 mm. The rolling speed was 5.0 m/sec. The AA1050/AA6061/AA1050 laminate complex sheet fabricated by roll bonding was then hardened by natural aging T4) and artificial aging (T6) treatments. The microstructures of the as-roll bonded and the age hardened Al complex sheets were revealed by optical microscope observation; the mechanical properties were investigated by tensile testing and hardness testing. The strength of the as-roll bonded complex sheet was found to increase by 2.9 times compared to that value of the starting material. In addition, the hardness of the complex sheets increased with cold rolling for AA1050 and age-hardening treatment for AA6061, respectively. After heat treatment, both AA1050 and AA6061 showed typical recrystallization structures in which the grains were equiaxed; however, the grain size was smaller in AA6061 than in AA1050.

  • Rolling speed, roll gap, and cooling pattern in hot strip finishing mill process should be determined before inserting strip into roll. Such parameters are initially calculated by a mathematical set-up model. The technique to find adequate roll speed via a mathematical model has inherently limit because required working conditions are various and rolling process is nonlinear. To improve the accuracy of initial rolling speed for a finishing mill, this paper suggests a correction technology for initial rolling speed. The proposed method was implemented in hot strip mill process. As the results, the magnitude of width error in strip head-end part caused by excessive strip tension was decreased remarkably.

  • In this study, we designed a digital inclinometer to measure the angle and acceleration signals. Digital inclinometer consists of a tilt sensor, accelerometer, one-chip micro controller and BlueTooth module. Using the developed system, we made an experiment with Roll. The subject is laid on the Roll and rises each foot $90^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ up, and measures angle and acceleration signals with 100Hz sampling frequency. Through several tests, we could find the possibilities and usefulness which can evaluate normality / abnormality of body posture objectively.
