  • In this paper, we present a sliding mode control strategy for the re-orientation maneuver of rigid spacecraft containing rotating wheels. The wheels are considered as internal devices, and external inputs are employed for generation of control commands. The formulation is developed for a general case while particular example is applied to pitch bias momentum spacecraft with a single momentum wheel. The resultant control commands are used to take the gyroscopic effects into account which are caused by the rotating wheels. The controller designed demonstrates that the nutational motion of the pitch bias momentum spacecraft is effectively controlled. It is also assumed that the external control torque device is of on-off nature, and pulse width modulation technique is applied to construct proper control torque history.

  • The turbulent flow around a sphere was investigated using two experimental techniques: smoke-wire flow visualization in wind tunnel at Re=5300, 11000 and PIV measurements in a circulating water channel. The smoke-wire visualization shows flow separation points near an azimuthal angle of $90^{\circ}$, recirculating flow, transition from laminar to turbulent shear layer, evolving vortex roll-up and fully turbulent eddies in the sphere wake. The mean velocity field measured using a PIV technique in x-y center plane demonstrates the detailed near-wake structure such as nearly symmetric recirculation region, two toroidal vortices, laminar separation, transition and turbulent eddies. The PIV measurements of turbulent wake in y-z planes show that a recirculating vortex pair dominates the near-wake region.

  • Reliability engineering is regarded as the major and important roll for all industry. And advanced manufacturing systems with high speed and intelligent have been developing for the betterment of machining ability. In this study, we have systemized evaluation of reliability for machinery system. We proposed the reliability assessment and design review method using analyzing critical units of high speed and intelligent machine system. In addition, we have not only designed and developed test bed system for acquiring reliability data, but also apply QFD technique for satisfying quality function which is provided in design phase. From this study, we will expect to guide and introduce the reliability engineering in developing and processing phase of high quality product.

  • The effect of free stream tubulence on the coherent structure in the near wake of a circular cylinder was investigated by a conditional sampling technique. The measurements were made from C.T.A. with hot wire I-probe and a Split-film sensor. Contours of phase-averaged velocity and vorticities were presented and discussed. It was found that the value of the vortex strength increased with increasing free stream turbulence which can enhance the roll-up of the shear layer.

  • An roll-pitch-yaw integrated autopilot for missiles is designed for compensation of dynamics coupling. The proposed autopilot is based on the classical control technique. The gains of the proposed autopilot are optimized by using co-evolutionary augmented Lagrangian method(CEALM). Several cost functions are compared in order to find feasible control gains. For a case that a bank angle of missiles is unknown, multiple models are used in the autopilot optimization. In nonlinear simulations as well as linear simulations, the proposed autopilot provided good performances.

  • In this paper, configuration control for the Horizontal Maintenance of the 2 wheel robot has been studied using ARS(Attitude Refrence System). The 2 wheel robot technique is getting attention and there have been many researches on the seg-way since the US. Using its 2 freedom, a 2 wheel robot can move in various modes and Our robot performs goal reaching ARS.2 wheel robot fall down to the forward or reverse direction to converge to the stable point. Kalman Filter is normally used for the algorithm and numerous research is progressing at the moment. To calculate the attitude in ARS using 2 axis gyro(roll, pitch) and 3 axis accelerometers (x, y, z). In this paper we present a two wheel robot system for an autonomous mobile robot. This paper realized the robot control method which is much simpler but able to get desired performance by using the ARS control.

  • This paper is concerned with the experiment of vibration isolation device whit can cope with heave, pitch and roll type vibrations. This new device consists of S-shaped piezoceramic actuators supporting each corner of the plate. Small piezoceramic sensors are located at the middle of each side. This paper also presents the development and the movement of the system. The active control technique was also developed to cope with base excitation. Experimental results show that vibrations can be reduced by the new device in the case of base excitation of harmonic type.

  • The wing rock phenomenon is a high angle of attack aerodynamic motion manifested by limit cycle roll oscillations. Experimental studies reveal that direct control and manipulation of leading edge vortices, through the use of 'blowing' techniques is effective in the suppression of wing rock. This paper presents the design of a robust controller for the experimental implementation of one such 'blowing' technique - recessed angle spanwise blowing (RASB), to achieve wing rock suppression over a range of operating conditions. The robust controller employs Takagi - Sugeno fuzzy system, which is fine-tuned by experimental simulations. Performance of the controller is assessed by real-time wind tunnel experiments with an 80 degree swept back delta wing. Robustness is demonstrated by the suppression of wing rock at a range of angles of attack and free stream velocities. Numerical simulation results are used to further substantiate the experimental findings.

  • A new kind of magnetic rubber, Fe dispersed ethylene propylene monomer (EPM), was prepared by a conventional technique using a two roll mill. The magnetic fillers of Fe-nanoparicles were coated by low density polyethylene (LDPE). The purpose of surface treatment of nanoparticles by LDPE is to enhance wettability and lubricancy of the fillers in a polymer matrix. The mechanical strength and microstructure of the magnetic rubber were characterized by tensile strength test and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results revealed that the Fe nanoparticles were relatively well dispersed in an EPM matrix. It was found that the nano- Fe dispersed magnetic rubber showed higher coercivity and tensile strength than those of micron- Fe dispersed one.
