This study attempted to explore relationship between self-identities in real space and in virtual space and to inspect empirically both self-identities' influence on addiction and society maladaptation of online role playing game users. The verified results through this study are summarized as follows. First, both self-identity in real space and self-identity in virtual space represent strong interrelationship. In detail, the user with strong self-identity in real space shows strong self-identity in virtual space. Second, self-identities in two spaces have the negative interrelationship with game addiction and maladaptation. Whether real space or virtual space, the higher self-identity, the lower the levels of game addiction and maladaptation. Especially, self-identity in real space appeared an influential variable determining the level of addiction and maladaptation. Although self-identity in virtual space have not an independent influence, it has the possibility to effect complementary with self-identity in real space. This fact means that virtual space is not the place where the user with weak self-identity in real space can discovers the ideal self. Because they also experience the negative recognition about oneself in virtual space.
Games such as sports, RTS, RPG, which teams of players play, require advanced artificial intelligence technology for team management. The existing artificial intelligence enables an intelligent agent to have the autonomy solving problem by itself, but to lack interaction and cooperation between agents. This paper presents "Level Unified Approach Method" with effective role allocation and autonomy in multiagent system. This method allots sub-goals to agents using role information to accomplish a global goal. Each agent makes a decision and takes actions by itself in dynamic environments. Global goal of Team coordinates to allocated role in tactics approach. Each agent leads interactive cooperation by sharing state information with another using Databoard, As each agent has planning capacity, an agent takes appropriate actions for playing allocated roles in dynamic environments. This cooperation and interactive operation between agents causes a collision problem, so it approaches at tactics side for controlling this problem. Our experimental result shows that "Level Unified Approach Method" has better performance than existing rental approach method or de-centralized approach method.
Game scenarios are playing more important role as much as games are getting more sophisticated and expanded in their applications. However, general-purpose tools for production of game scenarios are still not developed. There are similar tools for the production of films or dramas and simple tools for the development of UCG. However, analysis about them shows that they are not suitable for the production of game scenarios. In this paper, we are to develop game scenario authoring tool called 'UMa' suitable for game production and easy to use. UMa is composed of synopsis entry, quest entry, DB entry, communication, display, and control component. Since UMa provides templates to make synopsis, quest, and DB, users can produce them very easily. Especially, characters and items DB are stored independently so that they may be reused to the production of scenarios for follow-up or another game. Using UMa, users can write game scenarios more easily and quickly and cooperate with each other at the same time by Web.
The purpose of this research is to analyze players' emotion pattern for conducting a quest in Role Playing Game(RPG). We have rebuilt up the action and content of gameplay related to category to set up five action classes of game players based on the literature review about the human behavior classification. Moreover, Mabinogi game includes the composition of various quests by story-centered expanse. We classified the quest structure of the tutorial mode, initial state, of its game into the cognitive action. We build the model of the correlation between cognitive behavior patterns of gameplay and emotions derived from targeting ten novices. The result of this research reveals that gameplayers' stimulus levels are identified to emotion pattern. It is enable to grope to concrete the design of the quest and the level in a specified state. Moreover, players' emotion variation is indicated to the type of expression of fun elements. We expect to use a device to induce the curiousness and the challenge for conducting the higher goal of game in the whole.
The computer game industry has managed to become the fastest growing segment of the entertainment industry nowadays. However, only a very low number of computer game products manage to cover the costs of production and generate earnings. According to traditional marketing wisdom, customers' preferences are a core issue in creating successful products, and the design process in game is crucial for guaranteeing garners' satisfaction. This research aimed to explore key design factors for the game design based on the new framework of the usability evaluation. We examined the usability in Massively Multi-player Online Role-playing Games (MMORPGs) and reviewed literatures related to games simultaneously. We identified eighteen usability issues in MMORPG and presented its recommendation relevant to the issues. Moreover, the results of the study showed fifty four key design factors composed of game interface, game play, game narrative, and game mechanics for the game design. The research is concluded with key implications to support the early stage of the design process in game.

As the online game market grows, the use of game bots is causing the most serious problem for game services. We propose a harvest coordinate analysis model to detect harvesting bots among game bots of the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games(MMORPGs) genre. The proposed model analyzes the player's harvesting behavior using the coordinate data. Game bots can obtain in-game goods and items more easily than normal players and are not affected by realistic restrictions such as sleep time and character manipulation fatigue. As a result, there is a difference in harvesting coordinates between normal players and game bots. We divided the coordinate zones and used these coordinate zone differences to distinguish between game bot players and normal players. We created a dataset with NCSoft's AION log and applied it to a random forest model to detect game bots, and as a result, we derived performance with a recall of 0.72 and a precision of 0.92.
A quest system is one of the important parts in the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) contents. Because of its complexity in combining various content components, quest reward design belongs to a complicated work in estimating quest reward levels correctly in the initial development stage. In this paper, we suggest a new quest reward design technique by considering optimal quest play paths. We model a quest reward problem as the TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem) and solve that by adopting genetic algorithms. With our system, game designers easily estimate the optimal quest play path and it can be useful in reducing the trial-errors in the initial quest design process.
This paper measures and compares the traffic of a series of Massively Multi-player On-line Role Playing Game (MMORPG). The purpose of this analysis is to characterize the MMORPG traffic and compare the traffic characteristics of those games caused by the game structure difference between 2D and 3D environment. The target game is 'Lineage I' and 'Lineage II' which represent world's largest MMORPGs in terms of the number of concurrent users. We collect about 280 giga bytes and 1 tera bytes of packet headers, respectively. We compare packet size, packet inter-arrival time and bandwidth usage of these two games. The MMORPG traffic consists of two kinds of packets: client-generated upstream packets and server-generated downstream packets. We observe that the upstream packet size of payload has grown from 9 bytes to 19 bytes, while the average payload size of downstream packets has grown from 37 bytes to 318 bytes. This asymmetry of growing rate is caused by 3D game structure. Packet inter-arrival time becomes shorter from average 2 milliseconds to 58 microseconds. Bandwidth consumption per client has grown from 4 kbps to 20 kbps. We find that there is a linear relationship between the number of users and the bandwidth usage in both case.

Exergames are playing an important role in healthcare/rehabilitation. It has also been used to improve motivation among patients with reduced cognition. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility of using augmented reality (AR) with game-based cognitive-motor training programs for executive function, restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) in children with autism spectrum disorder. Sixteen children aged 6 -16 years were randomly allocated to the experimental group and control group. Outcome measures were performed before and after the intervention and included executive function, restricted and repetitive behavior. A satisfactory survey was conducted post-intervention. A statistically significant improvement was observed in working memory and cognitive flexibility in the experimental group (P<0.05). However, despite no statistical improvements in cognitive inhibition and four subscales of RRBs, promising changes were observed in all the subscales of the executive function and the behavioral outcomes. Parents appreciated the program and children enjoyed the interaction with the AR game-based training. The findings of this preliminary feasibility study showed that AR using Kinect v2 motion with a cognitive-motor game content can be used for children with autism. However, there is a need for conducting a large-scale study to evaluate his effectiveness on executive function and restricted and repetitive behaviors.
