  • The present research investigated perceptions of persons wearing Korean and Western clothing with reference to judgement of appropriateness of style in a variety of socially interacting contexts and relationship to social schemata and to general clothing interest. 180 male and 180 female students responded to open-ended and Likert-type questionnaires. The stimuli were 9 line drawings of male and female figures in traditional Korean and Western formal and informal attire. Data were analyzed by content analysis, frequency, percentage, and mean. Traditional Korean clothing was judged as inappropriate on the campus and in the office but appropriate in the ambiguous context. Korean traditional styles were related to person schemata, but Western styles were related to role schemata. Furthermore, Korean styles were considered to be 'impractical' and 'inactive.' A newly emerging perception of persons wearing Korean attire as 'individualistic' and 'radical activist' was discovered. Impressions of persons wearing traditional Korean clothing were partially related to subject's own clothing interest.

  • This study purposes to examine the background of the sexual concept and femininity, masculinity and gender role in the fields of social psychology and cultural anthropology and investigate the traditional gender role and the fashion's changes according to its role and the examples of the masculinity and femininity expressed in the contemporary fashion and finally analyze the gender identity expressed in fashion. The image changes which appeared in the modern fashion can be considered to be Masculine Look, Garconne Look, Feminine Look, Unisex Look, Androgynous Look and Genderless Look. The Garconne Look caused lots of changes to masculinity in the 1920's along with the changes of femininity. With the effect of feminism, many females wore clothing which had been thought as male's clothing by the appearance of Masculine Look. The major formation reason of Unisex Look can be regarded as the attitude change of the society toward to females and a meaning which doesn't want the differences of the distinction of gender to appear any longer as a characteristic external factor is implied. Androgynous Look which appeared in the 1980's means the integration of femininity and masculinity which is the same meaning with 'androgyny' in itself, Not denying its gender characteristics individually, the Androgynous Look means that women aim at the masculine image in men's clothing or men do at the feminine image in women's clothing. Genderless Look can be considered to a look with a notion to wear clothing freely even in fashion transcending the border of masculinity and femininity differentiated socially and culturally.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory characteristics of feet and legs by comparing with the physiological responses according to the covering parts of lower limbs. Five healthy female subjects wore three types of clothing-covered legs and feet(LF-C) with long trousers and socks exposed the legs(L-E) with half trousers and socks and exposed the legs and feet(LF-E) with only half trousers-when the subjects rested at $25^{\circ}C$ and were exposed to 18$^{\circ}C$ for 90 min. Rectal temperatures (Tre) were maintained higher in LF-E than L-E and LF-C at both environments. Decreases of The after exposure to 18$^{\circ}C$ were significantly smaller in LF-E than L-E and LF-C and almost same in L-E and LF-C Heat production in both environments increases of heat production and weight loss after exposure to 18$^{\circ}C$ were not significant among three types of clothing. From these findings it would be suggested that the legs would play the little role of voluntary thermoregulation as vasoconstriction and the role of the legs depend on thermal conditions of feet while the feet play the positive role of voluntary thermoregulation in terms of heat conservation in cool environment.
