암반 불연속면의 공학적 문제-(General Report) (Engineering Problems in Rock Discontinuity)

  • Rock masses usually contain such features as bedding planes, faults, fissures, fractures, joints and other mechanical defects which, although formed from a wide range of geological processes, posses the common characteristics of low shear strength, negligible tensile strength and high fluid conductivity compared with the surrounding rock material. In the engineering context here, the discontinuities can be the single most important factor governing the deformability, strength and permeability of the rock mass. Moreover, a particularly large and persistent discontinuity could critically affect the stability of any surface or underground excavation. For these reasons, it is necessary to develop a thorough understanding of the geometrical, mechanical and hydrological properties of discontinuities and the way in which these will affect rock mechanics and hence rock engineering.

Tunnel lining load with consideration of the rheological properties of rock mass and concrete

  • Rheological processes in the rock mass for the stress-strain analysis are quite important when considering the construction of underground structures in soft rock masses, particularly in case of construction in several stages. In the analysis, it can be assumed that the reinforced concrete structure is slightly deformable in relation to the rock mass, and the rheological stress redistribution happens at the expense of the elements of rock mass. The basic elements of rheological models for certain types of rock mass and analysis of these models are presented in the first part of this paper. The second part is dedicated to the analysis of rheological processes in marl rock mass and the influence of these processes on the reinforced-concrete tunnel structure.

Application of hydraulic cylinder testing to determine the geotechnical properties of earth-filled dams

  • This article describes a new in-situ load test called the Hydraulic Cylinder Test (HCT) and its application to determine the geotechnical properties of soil-rock mixtures. The main advantages of the test are its easy implementation, speed of execution and low-cost. This article provides a detailed description of the equipment and the test procedure, and examines a case study of its application to determine the geotechnical properties of an earth-filled dam for a tailings pond. The containment dams of the ponds are made from blocks of gypsum and marl, obtained from the excavation of the ponds, mixed in a matrix of sands and clays. The size of the rocks varies between 1 and 30 cm. The HCT is particularly useful for determining the geotechnical properties of this type of soil-rock mixture. Nine HCTs were carried out to determine its strength (c, ${\phi}$) and deformation (B, G) properties. The results obtained were validated using the Bim strength criterion, recently proposed, and some pressure meter tests carried out beforehand. The properties obtained are used to analyze the stability of the dam using computer simulations and a modification to its design is proposed.

절리특성을 고려한 터널 발파 설계 (Tunnel Blast Design in Consideration of Joint Properties)

  • 터널 발파시 발파효율은 암반의 특성에 큰 영향을 받기 때문에 암반 특성을 분석하고 이를 기초로 발파설계를 수행하는 것이 중요하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 현재까지 국내에서의 발파설계는 무결암의 단축압축강도만으로 발파암을 분류한 후 각 발파암의 발파계수를 구하는 방법을 이용하거나 공학적 암반분류법의 하나인 RMR분류를 이용하여 발파암을 분류하되 객관적 근거가 미약한 경험적인 발파계수를 산정하는 방식을 통하여 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서는 절리특성을 고려한 발파설계를 위하여 Ashby의 접근법을 활용하였다. 또한 절리조사 결과를 통한 발파암 분류방법과 발파패턴설계를 추가하여 발파설계 전과정을 수행할 수 있도록 Ashby의 접근법을 응용하였다. 따라서 절리 분포 특성을 고려한 발파암 분류가 가능하고, 절리암반 특성을 고려한 발파설계 를 수행할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

동결-융해 풍화에 의한 암석 물성 변화 양상과 추정에 관한 연구 (Weathering of Rock Specimens Exposed to Recurrent Freezing and Thawing Cycles)

  • 화강암(풍화), 석회암, 사암, 응회암, 셰일, 현무암 등 6가지 국내 암석을 대상으로 동결-융해에 의한 암석의 풍화과정을 실험하였다. 동결-융해 시 온도범위는 $-20^{\circ}C{\sim}10^{\circ}C$로 최대 40회까지 동결-융해를 반복하면서 비중, 공극률, 탄성파 속도, 쇼어경도를 측정하였다. 동결-융해 횟수가 증가함에 따라 공극률이 큰 화강암(w), 셰일, 현무암의 경우 기존의 균열이 성장하는 것이 뚜렷이 관찰되었고 시험편이 상하부로 분리되기도 하였다. 비중의 변화는 뚜렷이 관찰되지 않았다. 화강암(w), 셰일, 현무암의 탄성파 속도와 쇼어경도 값은 동결-융해에 의해 크게 감소하였고 석회암, 사암, 응회암의 경우 그 변화폭이 작았다. 공극률의 경우 인장강도가 작은 화강암(w), 셰일, 현무암이 크게 증가하였고 나머지 암종은 거의 변화하지 않았다. 실험 결과를 이용하여 선형 회귀식을 도출하였고, 각 회귀식의 계수와 동결-융해 풍화 민감도(=초기 공극률/초기 인장강도)와의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 이를 이용하여 암석의 초기 물성 값만으로도 동결-융해에 의한 풍화를 예측 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

그라우팅에 의한 터널 보강효과의 해석적 연구 (A Study on the Tunnel Stability using Grouting Technique)

  • Grouting technique is frequently used where a tunnel structure is passing through the shallow overburden area or where the thickness of hard rock above the tunnel is rather thin. However, engineering background on design process of the grout reinforcement does not seem to be fully understood until now. Mechanics of composite material is, therefore, introduced in this study to investigate the orthotropic material properties of the composites containing soil(or rock) and grouting material. These orthotropic material properties can be used to represent the reinfocement effects quantitatively. The model developed in this study is next applied to a typical tunnel structure and the grouting effect is analyzed numerically. The idea used in this study can be expanded to a situation where a pipe roofing or a forepoling technique is adopted and a simplified design procedure, similar to the model model introduced in this study, can be developed.

A CASE STUDY ON OPEN PIT MINE ROCK SLOPE STABILITY

  • Development of a three-dimensional mine visualization model for a section of the mine is addressed first. Discontinuity orientation and location information was taken from this visualization model for use in slope stability analyses. Estimated shear strength properties of discontinuities and mechanical properties of intact rock from the rock mass samples obtained from the mine are discussed next. The third part of the paper is focused on the results obtained for maximum safe slope angles for the section considered of the mine based on block theory analysis conducted under only the gravitational forces using the mapped discontinuities at the mine. Finally, the effects of water that exist in the rock mass, a tension crack, slope face inclination, overall wedge height and double benching on factor of safety of wedge stability are illustrated through limit equilibrium slope stability analyses conducted on a single tetrahedral wedge belonging to potential key block category that exist in the investigated area of the mine.

  • This paper presents some proposed methods for discontinuum analysis with rock discontinuities data acquisited in tunnel design stage. The limit equilibrium method for rock block sliding and falling proposed in this paper can consider the tunnel excavation and support stage, and, to the extent, the standard deviations and means of joint set orientation. Simple Distinct Elemet modelling methods are recommended in estimating the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. Because, the simple models are likely to show more consistent and clear than very complex model with finite joint length and joint deviation parameters.

  • Upon the basis of the measurements of index properties and ultrasonic velocities as well as the determination of degree of weathering mainly based on microscopic observation, relatively fare correlation has been found between the degrees of weathering and the physical properties of rocks, particularly between degrees of weathering and maximun water content. A significantly better correlation has been obtained between degree of weathering and P wave velocity by grouping rock samples according to rock facies. This study presented the range of physical parameters corresponding to each degree of weathering in granites.

  • Conventional gas deposits consist of pressurized gas held in porous and permeable reservoir rocks and its recovery takes place where the natural pressure of the gas reservoir forces gas to the surface. But gas hydrate is a crystalline solid, its prospects require reservoir rock properties approprate porosity, permeability with mapping of temperature and pressure conditions to define the hydrate stability zone. In this study, we have carried out to investigate the dissociation characteristics of methane hydrates and the productivities of dissociated gas and water with depressurization scheme. Also, it has been conducted the flowing behavior of the dissociated gas and water in porous rock and the efficiency of the production.
