  • In this study, the effect of scour was evaluated by regional and geotechnical characteristics and back data were accumulate for the design against scour through the local erosion characteristics evaluation of the Inchon coast. The erosion characteristics for the undisturbed soil samples collected near the main locations at the Incheon 2nd bridge, the Hwangyeong bridge, and a coast road in Songdo, are determined quantitatively through the scour rate tests. On the basic soil properties test, the bed around the Inchon coast chiefly consists of fined grained soils, and the soil samples were classified as silty clay(ML) or clay(CL) under the Unified Soil Classification System. On the scour rate test, the critical shear stress increases when the undrained shear strength increases as of the general trend of fine grained soils, and the average scour rate for the maximum velocity by 100 year flood is 173mm/hr at the Incheon 2nd bridge, 67mm/hr at the Hwangyeong bridge and 10mm/hr at a coast road in Songdo, respectively. Comparing to the scour rate of coarse grained soil, that of the bed around the Inchon coast is turned out to be very low. Therefore, the relative ability of the bed around the Inchon coast to resist erosion is assumed to be very high.

  • Intelligent transport services on smart roads tend to have a problem at the stage of benefit-cost analysis that can not secure economic feasibility of the new services which increase early investment cost on building its infrastructure. It is expected that the number of road accidents, 'Incident/Accident', will decline through various safety services using intelligent safety facilities, intelligent transport management and so on, and that traffic congestion will also decrease. The effect of traffic congestion reduction could be the benefit by safety improvement, however current investment-analysis process in Korea does not appropriate it as a benefit. This study estimated road blocking time with 'Incident/Accident' classification and highway accident data of past three years. It also developed a generalized model by a regression analysis with a microscopical simulation. Furthermore, it suggested necessary units on quantitative analysis in order to make the developed model applicable to investment evaluation. As a result of applying the developed model to Smart-Highway Project, it showed that total safety improvement benefit is about 139 billion dollars over 30 years when it is supposed that accident decreasing rate by smart safety facilities is 10%.

  • Any vehicle and equipment whose total weight is more than 40ton and its axle weight is 10ton or above is banned to cross any bridge in our country under section 54 in the Highway law. This restriction results from the accumulation and application of safety factors about which there is type specification in the "standard design vehicle". And in "standard design vehicle", Vehicle load to bridge is assumed concentrating one. Based on this restriction, there is an issue that military tank which has a total weight of 51ton (63ton in case of the US tank) can not cross any bridge. However, many research and practical examples concerned manifest that it is possible for military tanks to cross these bridges. The reasons of this issue in the current Highway law's provisions are analyzed in this paper. Correspondingly, feasibility of military tanks passing these bridges are discussed here. At last, considering economical efficiency and practicability for military, several suggestions and improving measures are put forward. This research has certain reality significance to guide bridge design considering the passage of military heavy vehicles.

  • SAFRS(spontaneous acoustic field reproduction system) is a system to sense changes of surroundings and produce sounds which can go well with environment elements sensed by the system in to the space. The sounds were judged by individual evaluation and, the classification of the preferred sounds according to the mood of the space was suggested in the former study. Effectiveness of SAFRS with field application was validated by prior studies which dealt with researching acoustic environment, evaluating images of sounds, and rating environment with existence and nonexistence of sound resources such as fountains and the system after applied in D university. In this study, for more effective field application of SAFRS, research for the acoustic environment around sound resources and subjective evaluation of the preference of the sounds from the resources were made and it was considered that the results of the experiments should be primary information to propose proper sound level to be offered by the system. The results of the study are as follows; 1) It was considered that the ambience of the center road was dependent upon produced sounds by the system and water sounds of the fountain and that of walk way was mostly dependent upon produced sounds. 2) The results of the subjective evaluation showed that the distance from sound resources was suggestive; the more distant from produced sounds the less full and clear the sounds, the less distant from the sounds of water the more delight and idyllic ambience, and the less distant from the forest the more idyllic ambient and diversity. 3) The results upwards were telling that an average value of six elements for the evaluation was even at the place set back 10.2m from center road and walk way. And harmony of all sounds of the place should be considered to propose suitable sound level of SAFRS.

  • Attempts to interpret human perspectives using computer vision have been developed in various fields. In this paper, we propose a method for evaluating the walking environment through semantic segmentation results of images from road images. First, the Kakao Map API was used to collect road images, and four-way images were collected from about 50,000 points in JeonJu. 20% of the collected images build datasets through crowdsourcing-based paired comparisons, and train various regression models using paired comparison data. In order to derive the walkability score of the image data, the ranking score is calculated using the Trueskill algorithm, which is a ranking algorithm, and the walkability and analysis using various regression models are performed using the constructed data. Through this study, it is shown that the walkability of Jeonju can be evaluated and scores can be derived through the correlation between pixel distribution classification information rather than human vision.

  • Due to Traffic accidents people faces health and economical casualties around the world. As the population increases vehicles on road increase which leads to congestion in cities. Congestion can lead to increasing accident risks due to the expansion in transportation systems. Modern cities are adopting various technologies to minimize traffic accidents by predicting mathematically. Traffic accidents cause economical casualties and potential death. Therefore, to ensure people's safety, the concept of the smart city makes sense. In a smart city, traffic accident factors like road condition, light condition, weather condition etcetera are important to consider to predict traffic accident severity. Several machine learning models can significantly be employed to determine and predict traffic accident severity. This research paper illustrated the performance of a hybridized neural network and compared it with other machine learning models in order to measure the accuracy of predicting traffic accident severity. Dataset of city Leeds, UK is being used to train and test the model. Then the results are being compared with each other. Particle Swarm optimization with artificial neural network (PSO-ANN) gave promising results compared to other machine learning models like Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, Nearest Centroid, K Nearest Neighbor Classification. PSO- ANN model can be adopted in the transportation system to counter traffic accident issues. The nearest centroid model gave the lowest accuracy score whereas PSO-ANN gave the highest accuracy score. All the test results and findings obtained in our study can provide valuable information on reducing traffic accidents.

  • Deep learning-based image processing is essential for autonomous vehicles. To process road images in real-time in a System-on-Chip (SoC) environment, we need to execute deep learning models on a NPU (Neural Procesing Units) specialized for deep learning operations. In this study, we imported seven open-source image processing deep learning models, that were developed on GPU servers, to Texas Instrument Deep Learning (TIDL) NPU environment. We confirmed that the models imported in this study operate normally in the SoC virtual environment through performance evaluation and visualization. This paper introduces the problems that occurred during the migration process due to the limitations of NPU environment and how to solve them, and thereby, presents a reference case worth referring to for developers and researchers who want to port deep learning models to SoC environments.
