  • Since bed elevation changes are mainly dependent on the flow velocity and corresponding shear stress, it is possible to predict bed elevation numerically using velocity components. For the scour analysis due to channel contraction, a bed load transport model is developed and applied to estimate scour depth around coffer dam in the Mississippi River. During Phase I of the Lock & Dam No. 26 replacement project, a coffer dam was constructed to reduce the flow area approximately by 50%. Flow velocity increases due to the flow area reduction yields significant lowering (erosion) of the channel bed elevation. The proposed numerical model solves the sediment continuity equation using the finite element method to evaluate scour process in the vicinity of the coffer dam

  • Biological drinking water treatment is widely used in Europe for the removal of ammonia nitrogen and organics. During the last 16 years, the deterioration of the quality of surface waters used to produce drinking water has resulted in the widespread use of ozone-biological treatment in Korea. This study were conducted to determine the effect of media weight and preozonation on the biodegradability enhancement in biological fluidized bed(BFB) using Han river water. When the carbon weight was increased, $NH_{3}-N$ and DOC removal increased, but turbidity and SS removal decreased. To remove turbidity and SS, the bed depth in 40% expansion rate/total bed depth was very important. Preozonation of raw water was not effective in $NH_{3}-N$, but increased in biodegradable organic fraction about 10-30% with 0.425-0.85 mg $O_{3}/mg$ DOC.

분당선 철도 한강 하저터널에서 세그먼트 방수재 선정 (Determination of Segment Sealing Material for a shield TBM tunnel under the Han river in the Bundang railway)

  • In this paper a determination of the optimal segment sealing material for a tunnel under the Han river between the Sungsoo-dong, Sungdong-Gu and the Chungdaw-dong, Kangnam-Gu in the Bundang railway. The geological investigation results show that some fractured zones exist loca]]y under the northern boundary of the Han river bed, but the other regions consist mostly of hard rocks of good Quality in the tunnel excavation level. Also, a hign water pressure of $5kgf/cm^2$ and a flash inflow of river water due to old boring holes are expected during tunnel excavation. A combined type sealing material of EPDM gasket with expansional rubber is selected as a optimal segment sealing material for the Han river tunnel considering the geological and site conditions.

Ecological Consideration for Restoration of the Degraded Urban River

  • Vegetation and riverine structures were compared among urban and several semi-natural rivers by applying direct gradient analysis and ordination method. Urban rivers showed different species composition from the semi-natural ones. Species composition of semi-natural rivers depended on the geographical positions, such as the upstream, midstream, and downstream and on micro-topographies, such as the waterside, flooding bed, and embankment. Semi-natural rivers showed gentle change in micro-topography, whereas urban one did not so. Our restoration plan to improve the ecological quality of the degraded urban river by imitating semi-natural river was prepared based on those data.

항공수심라이다를 활용한 하천 수심 및 하상 측량에 관한 연구 - 곡교천 사례를 중심으로 (Water Depth and Riverbed Surveying Using Airborne Bathymetric LiDAR System - A Case Study at the Gokgyo River)

  • 하천측량은 하천기본계획 및 각종 하천 정비의 기초자료를 취득하기 위해 활용되며 하천의 물리적 형태와 하천 정비 이후의 변화를 예측하기 위해서도 활용된다. 항공수심라이다(ABL: Airborne Bathymetric LiDAR) 시스템은 그린 레이저를 사용하여 수면과 하상을 동시에 측량할 수 있는 시스템으로써 하천의 수심 및 하상 측량에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 항공수심라이다 데이터를 하천 측량에 활용하기 위해서는 취득된 점군 데이터부터 수면과 하상 점들을 분리하고 추출하는 과정이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 대표적인 지면필터링 기법인 ATIN(Adaptive Triangular Irregular Network) 알고리즘을 적용하여 항공수심라이다의 점군 데이터로부터 저수심 하천의 수면과 하상 점군을 분리하기 위한 방법론을 구축하고 제안된 방법론의 효용성을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 충청남도 곡교천 일대에서 Leica Chiroptera 4X 센서로부터 취득된 데이터를 이용하여 실험을 수행하였다. 연구결과 수면과 하상에 대한 분류 정확도는 88.8%, Kappa 계수는 0.825를 얻을 수 있었으며, 항공수심라이다 데이터를 하천측량에 효과적으로 활용할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

천해조 및 조간대가 발달된 하구에서의 부유사이동 특성 (Suspended Sediment Transport Characteristics in the Estuary with Significant Shallow Water Tides and Tidal Flat)

  • 천해조가 발달된 하구에서의 소류사 이동 특성에 관한 선행연구에 이어 본 논문에서는 전과 동일한 하구 부유사 이동 특성을 규명하였다. 소류사 이동에 비해 다소 복잡한 양태로 발생하는 부유사 이동에 관한 수치실험을 통해 turbidity maximum형성과 변이에 관련된 기존 연구결과를 재확인할 수 있었으며. 천해조를 하류경계조건에 포함시키는 것이 소류사의 경우와 마찬가지로 매우 중요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 금강하구와 영산강하구에서의 소류사 및 부유사 이동특성의 차이점 뿐 아니라 창낙조우세와 고저조우세의 차이점도 규명할 수 있었다. 특히, 영산강하구의 경우 조간대 발달로 인해 낙조우세가 심화됨에 따라 소류사와 부유사가 서로 반대 방향으로 이동함에 의해 현재와 같이 조간대가 유지되고 있음을 규명하였다.
