The auxiliary structures of a high-rise building, such as balconies, ribs, and grids, are usually much smaller than the whole building; therefore, it is difficult to simulate them on a scaled model during wind tunnel tests, and they are often ignored. However, they may have notable effects on the local or overall wind loads of the building. In the present study, a series of wind pressure wind tunnel tests and high-frequency force balance (HFFB) wind tunnel tests were conducted on rigid models of an actual super high-rise building with vertical ribs protruding from its facades. The effects of the depth and spacing of vertical ribs on the mean values, fluctuating values and the most unfavorable values of the local wind pressure coefficients were investigated by analyzing the distribution of wind pressure coefficients on the facades and the variations of the wind pressure coefficients at the cross section at 2/3 of the building height versus wind direction angle. In addition, the effects of the depth and spacing of vertical ribs on the mean values, fluctuating values and power spectra of the overall aerodynamic force coefficients were studied by analyzing the aerodynamic base moment coefficients. The results show that vertical ribs significantly decrease the most unfavorable suction coefficients in the corner recession regions and edge regions of facades and increase the mean and fluctuating along-wind overall aerodynamic forces.
The characteristics of the coherence functions of X axial, Y axial, and RZ axial (i.e., body axis) wind forces on the Shanghai World Trade Centre - a 492 m super-tall building with section varying along height are studied via a synchronous multi-pressure measurement of the rigid model in wind tunnel simulating of the turbulent, and the corresponding mathematical expressions are proposed there from. The investigations show that the mathematical expressions of coherence functions in across-wind and torsional-wind directions can be constructed by superimposition of a modified exponential decay function and a peak function caused by turbulent flow and vortex shedding respectively, while that in along-wind direction need only be constructed by the former, similar to that of wind speed. Moreover, an inductive analysis method is proposed to summarize the fitted parameters of the wind force coherence functions of every two measurement levels of altitudes. The comparisons of the first three order generalized force spectra show that the proposed mathematical expressions accord with the experimental results well. Later, the influences of coherence functions on wind-induced dynamic responses are analyzed in detail based on the proposed mathematical expressions and the frequency-domain method of random vibration theory.
This paper presents the numerical simulation results for the dynamic responses of two types of submerged floating tunnels (SFT) under wave and/or seismic excitations. Time domain simulations are conducted by the commercial program OrcaFlex (OF) and in-house CHARM3D program (CP). The dynamic performances of a short/rigid/free-end SFT section with vertical and inclined mooring lines are evaluated. The SFT numerical models were validated against Oh et al.'s (2013) model test results under regular wave conditions. Then the numerical models were further applied to the cases of irregular waves or seismic motions. The main results presented are SFT surge/heave motions and mooring tensions. The general trends and magnitudes obtained by the two different software packages reasonably agree to each other along with experimental results. When seabed seismic motions are applied to the SFT system, the dynamic responses of SFTs are small but dynamic mooring tension can significantly be amplified. In particular, horizontal earthquakes greatly increase the dynamic tension of the inclined mooring system, while vertical earthquakes cause similar effect on vertical mooring system.
This paper first presents the distributions of static lateral earth pressure in case of translational o.all movement (ATRA) , obtained respectively by the Dubrova method and by the method where Chang's idea is applied to the former, acting on the rigid retaining vertical wall with horizontal sand backfill. Total active resultant forces and the points of application of those forces, calculated results by the two methods, are compared with the experimental results recently published by Fang Y.S. and Ishibashi I. A comparative study about the distribution of static lateral earth pressurein each case of rotation about top(AT) and base (AB), on which the writer studied previously, is also conducted along with the above experimental results. The following results are obtained 1) In case of AT and ATRA, the experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated results by the Dubrova's method. 2) In case of AB, the results of the Dubrova's method are very inconsistent with those of model test, where as th method 9.here Chang's idea is applied, corresponds well, even though there is a small deviation.

In precision laser microfabrication, focusing is essential to acquire good machining precision and uniform machining quality. If it does not perform, laser machining cannot be realized. So, confocal scanning method with high depth resolution is used for focus detection technique. This paper is concerned with a procedure for design, analysis and performance test of an autofocus fine actuating stage, which is composed of flexure-hinge type lever mechanism and piezoelectric actuator. Through series of analytical design, the stage is simplified as a rigid bodies(lever and main body) and springs(flexure hinges). The simplified model was applied to determine the dimension of flexure hinges and lever. After structural analysis confirmed design requirement, an actual stage was made and verified through an experiment on the static and dynamic characteristics(maximum stroke and 1st natural frequency). The fabricated stage was satisfied with the design requirement.

The resilient mounts of a diesel engine installed onboard a ship should be designed for both static and dynamic loads. If possible, the resonance frequencies of the six rigid body modes of the installation and the flexible modes of the engine support structure should not lie within the engine operation range. In this paper a design criterion is proposed to evaluate an isolation system which involves the summation of dynamic forces transmitted through the resilient mounts and elastic potential energy index stored in the mounts. A case study is also presented in which a diesel engine generator, which had an elastic foundation and was mounted in a 5500 TEU container vessel, was studied both theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical analysis of the test model was performed by using a single mass 6 degree of freedom system. Actual measurements of mechanical vibration of the engine and its foundation onboard were carried out, which showed the importance of including the flexibility of the engine support structure in the mode.

RBSN Method, Rigid-Body-Spring Network Method, is a structural analysis method that overcomes the problems faced in FEM analysis of concrete or crack forming structures. In RBSN, irregular lattices are used to model structural components consisting of bulk material, curvilinear reinforcements, and their interfaces. Because reinforcements and their interfaces in the bulk material are freely positioned, meshing is irrespective of the geometry of the representing bulk material. In this paper, RBSN method of 3D is applied in simulating the pull-out test of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) embedded in concrete. The comparison of analysis results to experimental results shows that RBSN method simulates the shear-slip behavior very precisely. From the analysis results, 3D RBSN method is proven to be an effective and accurate analysis method for concrete structural analysis. Also, the results show that RBSN method can be a potential analysis method for concrete structures that can replace the current FEM analysis.
In this paper, a non-vacuum packaged single crystalline silicon MEMS gyroscope is designed, fabricated and tested. To reduce air damping of the gyroscope structure for non-vacuum packaging, air damping model is used and damping is minimized by analysis. The inner and outer spring length is optimized by ANSYS simulation for rigid body motion. The gyroscope is fabricated by SiOG(Silicon On Glass) process. The performance of the gyroscope is measured to evaluate the characteristic of the gyroscope. The sensitivity, non-linearity, noise density and the bias stability are measured to 9.7693 mV/deg/s, 04265 %, 2.3 mdeg/s/rtHz and 16.1014 deg/s, respectively.

This paper describes a quasi-static finite element analysis, which uses the explicit integration method, of the apex joint of a cold-formed steel portal frame. Such cold-formed steel joints are semi-rigid as a result of bolt-hole elongation. Furthermore, the channel-sections that are being connected have a reduced moment capacity as a result of a bimoment. In the finite element model described, the bolt-holes and bolt shanks are all physically modelled, with contact defined between them. The force-displacement curves obtained from the quasi-static analysis are shown to be similar to those of the experimental test results, both in terms of stiffness as well as failure load. It is demonstrated that quasi-static finite element analysis can be used to predict the behavior of cold-formed steel portal frame joints and overcome convergence issues experienced in static finite element analysis.
The SW-centered battlefield management information system R&D project takes a long period of 5-10 years or more by applying a complex and rigid batch acquisition strategy. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to institutionalize a rapid and flexible battlefield management information system R&D project management procedure applying agile development methodology, and a government project management organization and contract management method to support it In this study, we analyzed the case of applying the Agile development method centered on Scrum to the US SW-centered weapon system R&D project and the characteristics and problems of the battlefield management information system R&D project in Korea, and suggested improvement measures as follows. First, the battlefield management information system R&D model applies the hybrid development method, and the system requirements analysis and system structure design use the existing waterfall development procedure, and the agile method is applied from the SW requirements analysis to the system integration stage. Second, flexible adjustment of performance, schedule, and cost by organizing an Agile IPT in which military (requirements) - DAPA (project management) - developer - functional specialized organizations (test and evaluation, quality, government research institutes, etc.) participate. Third, improving the Basic Order Agreement so that it can be applied to agile R&D.
