Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci for Salt Tolerance at the Seedling Stage in Rice

  • Salt tolerance was evaluated at the young seedling stage of rice (Oryza sativa L.) using recombinant inbred lines (MG RILs) from a cross between Milyang 23 (japonica/indica) and Gihobyeo (japonica). 22 of 164 MG RILs were classified as tolerant with visual scores of 3.5-5.0 in 0.7% NaCl. Interval mapping of QTLs related to salt tolerance was conducted on the basis of the visual scores at the young seedling stage. Two QTLs, qST1 and qST3, conferring salt tolerance, were detected on chromosome 1 and 3, respectively, and the total phenotypic variance explained by the two QTLs was 36.9% in the MG RIL population. qST1 was the major QTL explaining 27.8% of the total phenotypic variation. qST1 was flanked by Est12~RZ569A, and qST3 was flanked by RG179~RZ596. The detection of new QTLs associated with salt tolerance will provide important information for the functional analysis of rice salt tolerance.

벼 만식재배시 묘령이 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향 (Yield and Grain Quality as Affected by Seedling Age in Late Transplanted Rice)

  • 이상기상으로 인해 모내기 지연형 한발이 발생할 경우나 시설 하우스재배 후작으로 벼를 이앙할 경우를 대비하여 이미 생산해 놓은 묘령이 많은 노숙묘 기계 이앙시 가능 한계 묘령과 그에 따른 미질 변화를 구명코자 시험을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 이앙후 본답 적응력을 보기 위한 굴기력은 품종에 관계없이 묘령이 어릴수록 굴기력이 커 본답 적응력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 2. 수량은 10일묘에서 현저히 감소하였고, 30일묘 이후는 큰 차이가 없었으나 조생종인 상미벼는 본년과 전년도의 성적이 상이되는 결과를 보여 기상의 영향에 따라 생육이 달랐다. 3. 묘령이 어릴수록 청미 및 피해립의 비율이 높아져 완전미 비율은 떨어졌고, 45, 60일묘에서 완전미 비율이 높아지는 경향이었다. 4. 쌀의 이화학적 특성 및 식미치는 청미와 피해립 등 미숙립이 다발되었던 10일묘에서 단백질 함량이 증가되었으며 식미치도 낮아졌다.

Farmer's friendly technique of raising mat type healthy seedling in cold environment

  • High mortality and slow growth of seedling generally occurred in tray due to cold, foggy weather and severe seedling blight. Mechanical transplanting is hampered, farmers having economic loss. A sustainable method for raising mat type seedling is necessary. Experiments were conducted on disease control and seedling growth in dry seasons. Fungicides treated/untreated seeds were sown 120-130g in each tray containing pulverized fine grain loam/sandy loam soils. Seed covered with a thin layer of soil and irrigated. It was polythene covered (PC) for 72h and then every night along with 2/3 sprinkler irrigation (SI) per day. Untreated seedlings infected 53-93%. Pyraclostrobin, Azoxystrobin and Azoxystrobin+Difeconazole treated seeds/sprayed (72h) seedlings had no disease. Seedling height was 11.7-13.2 cm with compact and thick root mat at 25 days. Seeds treated at 0.2-0.3% (18-20h) showed no disease but severely in untreated seeds in all locations. Seedling height (13.8 cm), leaf age (3.7) and root number (8.5) were better when NPK were applied at 3-4-3 g/tray. Spraying of urea (1%) in addition with MOP, theovit and $ZnSo_4$ at 0.6-0.6-0.2% on 7 and $15^{th}$ days was also effective. PC showed significant growth (29.1-34.5%). Root mat was not good in flooded irrigation (FI). Disease was higher in SI (66.7-97.3%) than FI (0.7-3.7%) in untreated seeds regardless of polythene use. The protocol would be effective for raising mat type seedling in cold environment.

벼 직파재배조건에 따른 입모율의 품종간 차이 (Varietal Difference of Seedling Establishment in Direct-Seeded Rice)

  • 국제미작연구소(IRRI)의 IRGC와 INGER유전자원에 대한 직파적성을 평가하기 위하여 다양한 직파조건으로 처리된 20개 시험에서 공통으로 공시된 대비품종군(8개 품종) 직파조건에 대한 입모반응을 검토하여 품종들의 유전적 특성으로 평가하고자 시험한 결과를 요약하면; 1. 직파조건에 따른 입모율의 품종, 파종시기, 이들의 상호작용 및 모든 처리간에 통계적인 유의성이 인정되었다. 2. 직파양식, 복토깊이, 파종기 등의 직파조건별 대비품종군의 품종간 입모반응은 거의 같은 경향으로 나타나서 품종의 특성으로 분류할 수 있었다. 3. 직파조건에 따른 평균 입모율의 품종간 차이는 ASD1 > IR50 > IR72 > Taothabi > Uplri5 > CO25 > Dula > Moroberakan순으로 높게 나타났다. 4. 건답직파(파종깊이 25mm, 50mm)에서 파종시기에 따른 입모율의 품종 간 차이는 ASD1과 Moroberakan 품종 간에는 모든 직파조건에서 유의한 차이를 보였으나 다른 품종들은 직파조건에 따라서 유의성 정도가 다소 상이하여 평균 입모율의 순서와 같은 경향이었다.

Effect of Seed Coating with Polymers on Seed Vigour and Seedling Stand in Direct Seeded Rice

  • These experiments were conducted to investigate water uptake, electrical conductivity, germination percentage, seedling growth, and seedling establishment rate in direct seeding cultivation of rice. The rice seeds of six japonica type varieties were coated with 12 kinds of polymers in a standard concentration of 0.2% using seed coating machine. The water absorption of the polymer-coated seeds under saturation conditions was not different among varieties, and was the highest in kulcel, maltrin, and waterlock on the polymer-coated seeds. The electrical conductivity with waterlock (55.0 $\mu scm^{-1}g^{-1}$) was higher than the control plot (45.6 $\mu scm^{-1}g^{-1}$) and other treatments. The germination of the polymer-coated seeds was 95.9% at control plot, 92.7% at low temperature and 35.7% at high temperature. The total dry weight of seed decreased in the order of low temperature, control plot, and high temperature, and was effective in pvp (polyvinyl pyrrolidone), opadry, and sacrust. The seedling establishment rate in direct seeding cultivation ranged from 74.9 to 81.0% in flooded paddy surface, and ranged from 64.7 to 76.6% in dry paddy. In both cases, it decreased in the order of early, medium and medium-late varieties, but was enhanced in daran 8600, sepirect, and sacrust. According to this study the recommended polymers for direct seeding cultivation of rice are daran 8600, sepirect, and sacrust.

Variety and Seedling Age Affects Fine Rice Yield

  • The research was conducted with the aim of determining effects of seedling age on the yield of four fine rice varieties viz., Kalizura, Tulshimala, BRRI (Bang-ladesh Rice Research Institute)-37 and BRRI-38. The seedling of different ages such as 15, 25, 35 and 45 days were transplanted on the same day maintaining $25cm{\times}15cm$ spacing. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The yield and yield contributing characters were influenced by seedling age, variety and their interaction. BRRI-38 gave the highest number of effective tillers $hill^{-1}$, panicle length, total spikelets $panicle^{-1}$, grains $panicle^{-1}$, 1000-grains weight and grain yield. Likewise, yield and yield contributing characters were the highest in 35 days old seedling. On the other hand, the variety (BRRI-38) with the same age as of seedlings 35 days old seedlings was found superior to other interactions, but, in the production of grains $panicle^{-1}$ and 1000-grains weight there was no significant effect in this interaction. From the findings it may be inferred that BRRI-38 with 35 days old seedlings produced the highest grain yield.

상토 유형별 계면활성제 처리가 수도 유묘 소질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Rice Seedling Growth According to Wetting Agents and Growing Media)

  • This study was carried out to find the effect on growing media and proper time for water supply in rice seedling stages. Plant height of rice seedling for SIPAN-BRL among current several growing medias was higher in Chuchungbyeo than Ilpumbyeo, and that of root length was higher in check among used growing medias. Fresh and dry weight of shoot and root of two rice cultivar. Water time to absorption on each treatment of growing media concentration took similarly in SIPAN-BNH and check were similar. But 500 minutes did in 100ppm and did 370 and 470minute in 300 and 500ppm, respectively. Wilting time of rice seedling was appeared highly at 300ppm of SIPAN-BRL in Chuchungbyeo and 100ppm of SIPAN-BRL in Ilpumbyeo, while it prolonged at 300ppm in Chuchungbyeo and 500ppm in Ilpumbyeo, respectively. Water content at wilting stage was appeared highly at SIPAN-BRL 500ppm in both Chuchungbyo and Ilpumbyeo, while SIPAN-BNL was high in 300ppm of Chuchung-byeo and Ilpumbyeo, respectively. Plant and root length of SIPAN-BNL treated with 300ppm in 10day-rice seedling were highly appeared, while dry weight of shoot was high at 300ppm SIPAN-BNL.

벼 어린모 육묘일수 연장에 따른 모소질, 본답 생육 및 수량성 (Effect of Nursery Period on Seedling Growth and Yield in Transplant Rice with Infant Seedling)

  • 벼 어린모 육묘시 적기이앙을 못하여 육묘일수가 연장 될 경우 모소질과 본답초기 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향을 검토하고자 화성벼를 공시하여 1997년 작물시험장 포장에서 8일모, 12일모, 16일모, 20일모를 이용하여 시험을 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 성묘을은 8일모가 93.9%로 가장 높았으며, 12일모는 88.9%, 16일모는 82.0%, 20일모는 80.8%로 육묘일수가 길어질수록 성율이 낮아졌다. 2. 이앙당시 초장이 8일모가 7,6cm, 12일모가 13.0cm, 16일모가 15.1cm, 20일모가 16.9cm로 육묘 12일 이후는 육묘일수 지연에 따른 생육 차이가 적었다. 3. 종자내 배유양분 잔존율은 8일모가 52.5%로 가장 많았으며 12일모가 36.2%, 16일모 30.1%, 20일모가 27.4%였다. 4. 결주율은 8일모와 12일모는 5.1-5.2%로 비슷하였으나 16일모와 20일모는 6.7%, 7.8%로 결주 발생이 많았다. 5. 발근량은 8일모가 104.0로 가장 높았으며, 다음은 12일모로 59.5, 16일모는 41.4, 20일초는 27.9였다 6. ha당 쌀수량은 육묘일수가 길어질수록 수량감소가 현저하여, 8일모 대비(6.18톤) 12일모는 5%, 16일모는 11%, 20일 모는 16%가 감소하였다. 7. 현미의 완전미 비율은 8일모와 12일모는 92.1, 91.5%로 비슷하였으며, 16일모와 20일모는 88.8, 85.4%로 현저히 감소되었다.

벼 자동화(自動化)에서 육묘(育苗)에서 파종기(播種期)와 육묘기간(育苗期間)이 묘소질(苗素質)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effect of Sowing Date and Days after Sowing on Rice Seedling Characters Raised in an Automatic Facility)

  • 벼 자동화 육묘시설에서 파종기별 알맞은 육묘기간을 선정하기 위하여 경상북도 안동, 의성 및 경산지역의 육묘시설에서 파종기와 육묘기간에 따른 묘소질, 육묘일수에 따른 수량구성요소와 수량성, 벼 품종별 묘소질 등을 조사 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 자동화 육묘시설내에서 파종기가 늦어지고 육묘기간이 길어질수록 묘초장 신장 속도는 빨랐고, 지상부 건물중은 증가하였으나, 지상부건물 중/초장 비는 감소하였으며 그 감소폭은 10일묘 이후에서 컸다. 묘초장과 묘소질을 근거로 한 각 지역별 파종기에 따른 적정 육묘기간은 4월 하순 파종의 경우 안동과 의성에서는 15~20일묘, 경산은 15 일묘이고, 5월 하순과 6월 파종의 경우는 지역에 관계없이 10일묘가 적합하였다. 육묘 기간에 따른 수량성은 육묘일수가 10일에서 20일로 연장될수록 감소하였는데, 10일묘의 10 a당 수량은 관행중묘에 비해 5% 증수되었지만 20일묘의 경우는 9% 감소되었다. '대산벼'외 12품종을 대상으로 자동화 육묘시설에서의 묘생육을 비교한 바, 10일묘의 초장은 '상미벼', '원황벼' 및 '일품벼'는 13.3~13.5 cm로 짧은데 비해 '만안벼', '화영벼', '대산벼' 및 '일미벼'는 16.6~17.5 cm로 걸었는데, 이들 품종중 '화영벼'와 '대산벼'는 10일묘의 지상부 건툴 중도 9.1~9.4 mg으로 무겁고 육묘일수에 따른 지상부건물중/초장 비의 감소 폭도 작았다.

Varietal Difference of Transplanted Rice Seedling Growth in Response to Salinity

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic information of growth, chlorophyll, and $Na^+\;and\;K^+$ content of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings after transplanting in different NaCl conditions. Plants grown in pots for 8 days after germination were grown for 10 days after transplanting in 50 and 100 mM NaCl concentrations. At higher NaCl concentration, plant height, root length, dry weight and chlorophyll content were reduced with NaCl stress. Among rice cultivars, the shoot dry weight of Gancheokbyeo, Janganbyeo and Hwasungbyeo, and the root dry weight of Janganbyeo, Gancheokbyeo and Juanbyeo showed relatively low reduction compared to the other rice cultivars at 100 mM NaCl stress. The $Na^+$ content in seedling rapidly increased with the increase of NaCl concentration but $K^+$ contents decreased. There was a significant relationship between $Na^+$ content and shoot and root dry weight after transplanting rice seedlings to saline conditions. The shoot and root dry weight showed highly negative relationship with the $Na^+/K^+$ ratio in saline conditions.
