  • Laboratory bioassays were conducted to test the acute toxicity effects of sudden exposure to sodium cyanide (NaCN) on the endogenous rhythm of the oxygen consumption rate (OCR) in the black rockfish Sebastes schlegeli. The OCR of the black rockfish(n = 14, total length = $20.4{\pm}1.16\;cm$, wet weight = $158{\pm}25\;g$) was measured with an automatic intermittent-flow-respirometer. OCR decreased significantly when experimental fish were exposed to NaCN. When exposed to 10 ppb NaCN, fish were able to recover their OCR rhythmic activities. When fish were exposed to 20 ppb, however, the metabolic activity rhythms were not recovered. These results suggest that exposure to NaCN concentrations over 20 ppb cause severe physiological damage to the endogenous rhythms of black rockfish.

  • Nocturnal polyuria is one of the main pathogenic mechanisms of enuresis. Disturbance of circadian rhythm of antidiuretic hormone (ADH or AVP), hypercalciuria, and/or solute diuresis are considered to cause nocturnal polyuria, which in turn causes enuresis in patients with relatively small bladder capacity and high threshold for awakening. Evaluation of these factors would guide the therapeutic approach for enuresis.

  • In Korean, it has been well Down that vowel length plays an important role in differentiating word meanings. But the distinction between long and short vowels is often ignored by young generation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the change in rhythm patterns. In addition, it is also examined whether this change has resulted in the differences in prosodic features between young and old groups. This study is based on H. B. Lee's 'rhythm pattern theory' Based on his assumption, it is suggested that the loss of original vowel length has caused the place of accent to move from the first to the second syllable.

  • The purpose of this research is to study the aesthetic character of a mosaic which is expressed in the Modern Costume. The methods of the research were by literature and it was mainly done with reference to master's theses, doctor's theses, separate volumes, periodicals, domestic and overseas fashion magazines and internet on the subject. The result of the research appears as rhythm, exoticism, abstraction, mystery, recreation by disintegration. First, rhythm appears in a sense of free rhythm with the method of arranging motives and the kinds of materials varying. Second, exoticism gives impression with such motives as Oriental designs, African designs and the geometric designs of nature occupying the surface. Third, abstraction displays motives such as unrealistic fashion. Fourth, mystery gives a cyber-related impression with the help of such scientific materials as fluorescent plastics, metal and glass. Fifth, recreation pelves an aesthetic impression by reorganizing the costume with the disintegration and transformation of Industrial materials such as plastics, metal and glass, etc. based on their unique colors and quality.

  • This study aims to investigate how the game based FES paradigm influences on EEG spectrum. Thirteen subjects were recruited for this study. We selected Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, T3, T4, P3 and P4 for the EEG recording and the wrist was selected as the FES rehabilitation site. EEG spectrum were compared between FES only and FES with game condition. The results showed that FES game significantly suppressed alpha rhythm in EEG compared to the FES only condition.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of rhythm therapy program on MPT(Maximum Phonation Time) and acoustic parameters in patients with Parkinson's disease. The therapy program utilized 5 Korean traditional rhythms: jinngyang, jungmori, jungjungmori, jajinmori, and semachi. The therapy consisted of counseling regarding vocal hygiene and actual therapy procedures. Six subjects with Parkinson's disease participated in the study; 3 subjects in experimental group and the other 3 subjects in control group. The pre- and post- acoustic analyses were performed in both groups. The results of this study were as follows; 1) MPT was significantly increased in the experimental group, 2) mono-pitch was significantly improved in the experimental group, 3) mono-loudness was significantly improved in the experimental group, and finally, HNR was significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group.

  • Traditional indexing mechanism are based on the song's metadata such as the title and the composer and so on. However, these system have a major limitation that users have to know the metadata of the songs they want to retrieve. In order to solve these limitation, we proposed a rhythm extraction system that allows users to retrieve music information efficiently from a large music database using the rhythm that is defined as the parts of the music.

  • The aim of this study is to provide a learning method of prosodic rhythm for Taegu North Kyungsang Korean speakers to learn French rhythm more effectively. The rhythmic properties of spoken French and Taegu North Kyungsang Korean dialect are different from each other. Therefore, we try to provide a basic rhythmic model of the two languages by dividing into three parts: syllable, rhythmic unit and accent, and intonation. To do so, we recorded French of Taegu Kyungsang Korean speakers, and then analysed and compared the rhythmic properties of Korean and French by spectrograph. We tried to find rhythmic mistakes in their French pronunciation, and then established a learning model to modify them. After training with the CSL Macro learning model, we observed the output result. However, although learners understand the method we have proposed, an effective method which is possible by repeating practice must be arranged to be actually used in direct verbal communications in a well-developed learning programme. Hence, this study may play an important role at the level of preparation in the setting of an effective rhythmic learning programme.

  • Stress effects upon Korean vowels were investigated with reference to rhythm. We measured three acoustic correlates (Duration: VOT, Vowel Duration; F0; Intensity) of stress from the seven pairs of stressed vs. unstressed Korean vowels /i, ${\varepsilon}(e)$, a, o, u, i, e/. The results of the experiment revealed that stress gave only inconsistent and weak effects on duration, which supports that Korean is not a stress-timed language as far as strong stress effects on duration are still considered crucial in stress-timing. On the other hand, Korean stressed vowels were most characterized with higher F0 and next with stronger intensity. But speakers generally showed tactics to reversely use F0 and intensity in stressing an utterance rather than proportionately strengthening both of the two acoustic correlates of stress. There was found great inter-speaker variability especially in the variations of duration.

  • From birth to death, every man is under the control of the three biorhythm curves that initiate from inner body. body. Those are called 'Physical rhythm, emotion I rhythm and intellectual rhythm'. These biorhythms have influence each other in human behaviour like physical endurance, creativity, record of examination. The result of investigation indicates that the students' records in low level period are lower than those of in high. Therefore, it is verified statistically whether the biorhythm has effects on human ability in scholarly record or not. And also, this research calculates the average nixed-biorhythm which is representable for a group by using mode mixed-biorhythm.
