  • It is well known that parameter uncertainties and time-delays cannot be avoided in practice and result in poor performance and even instability. Nevertheless, to the authors' best knowledge, there exist few results on model predictive control (MPC) handling explicitly uncertain time-delayed systems. In this paper, we present an MPC algorithm for uncertain time-varying systems with input constraints and state-delay. An optimization problem is suggested to find a memoryless state-feedback MPC law and the closed-loop stability is established under feasibility and certain conditions.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed at finding the effects of cycled lighting on body weight, physiological variables and the behavioral state of LBWI (low birth weight infants) in the NICU. Method: The subjects were 20 LBWI at 2 NICUs. They were assigned to an experimental or control group which consisted of 10 subjects in each. Cycled light was applied to the experimental group for 10 days. Result: It was certified that the application of cycled lighting resulted in increased body weight and O2 saturation, and decreased heart rate of the LBWI. However, there was no effect in decrease of respiration and stabilization of the behavioral state. Conclusion: The application of cycled lighting might be a nursing intervention which would in turn have positive effects on the growth of LBWI.

  • Pretreatment of spent FCC catalyst and its application in remove trace olefins in aromatics were investigated in this research. The most effective pretreatment route of spent FCC catalyst was calcining at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, washing with 5% oxalic acid solution in ultrasonic reactor and dried. Treated spent FCC catalyst was modified with metal halides, then to prepare catalyst to remove trace olefins in aromatics. X-ray diffraction, Pyridine-FTIR, $N_2$ adsorption-desorption and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) were used to investigate the pretreatment process. The result showed that the performance of the treated spent FCC catalyst was much greater than that of the spent FCC catalyst, which indicted the possibility and improvement of this research.

  • In this work, we calculated the vapor-liquid equilibrium of aqueous polymer solutions by using PRSV equation of state combined with $G^{ex}$ mixing rules(HVO, MHVL, MHV2, LCVM). From the comparison of calculated results with experimental data obtained from literature, we found that calculation results by using MHV1 mixing rule have showed small range of error than HVO, MHV2 and LCVM mixing rules. Calculation results by using the combination of MHV1 mixing rule and UNIFAC-FV model have showed the best result for selected aqueous polymer solutions.

  • The transient characteristics of separately excited d-c motor driven by thyristor d-c chopper is studied in this paper. The armature controlled system is applied. As a result of theoretrical analysis the following conculsions were drawn: (1) For the transient analysis, it is recognized that the state transition analysis is a more general method and powerful tool than the state equation method or signal flow graph method, although it includes iterative matrix calculations. And the system is dealt with a finite width sampled-data system in the state transition analysis. (2) The transient characteristics of the motor angular velocity and its torque to the sampling duration variation are compared with those due to the amplitude variation of d-c chopper voltage as follows. The attenuation rate of the transient characteristics is equal in both cases, but the initial value of the transient characteristics in former case is greater than in latter case. (3) The roots of characteristics equation of the system lie inside the unit circle of the Z-plane. Therefor the system is stable. Further it is found that as the sampling duration is decreased the relative stability is lessened.

  • This paper introduces an on-line particle-filtering-based framework for failure prognosis in nonlinear, non-Gaussian systems. This framework uses a nonlinear state-space model of the plant(with unknown time-varying parameters) and a particle filtering(PF) algorithm to estimate the probability density function(pdf) of the state in real-time. The state pdf estimate is then used to predict the evolution in time of the fault indicator, obtaining as a result the pdf of the remaining useful life(RUL) for the faulty subsystem. This approach provides information about the precision and accuracy of long-term predictions, RUL expectations, and 95% confidence intervals for the condition under study. Data from a seeded fault test for a UH-60 planetary carrier plate are used to validate the proposed methodology.

  • Cylindrical plunge grinding is widely used for final machining process of precision parts such as automobile, aircraft, measurement units. But in order to make parts which have high precision accuracy and high surface integrity, it is necessary to consider grinding characteristics due to accumulation phenomena of grinding wheel in plunge grinding process. In this study, in order to examine closely plunge grinding process, grinding power, grinding force, real depth of cut are monitored in transient state, steady state and spark out state. As the result, it is shown that grinding power and force are affected by dressing condition, depth of cut and speed ratio and that there exist threshold grinding force and it also affected by dressing condition. Also considered effects of grinding conditions on surface roughness and roundness of workpiece

  • Effects of electric force on the morphology and growth of aggregates were studied experimentally. Nano-sized NaCl particles were supplied to a flame to perform the unipolar charging state. This electric precursor did not modify a temperature profile of the flame. The morphology of aggregates was measured by TEM image processing technique and the light scattering technique. In the unipolar charged state, the fractal dimension of aggregates was smaller than that of' the electrically neutral state. This result was in good agreement with our previous numerical simulations.

  • As expansion and contraction of bike disk brake are happened continuously by temperature at repeated urgent braking. In this study, 3 kinds of model are designed according to configurations of holes and thermal durabilities on bike disk brake are investigated by comparing 3 models through temperature and thermal analyses. Maximum thermal stress happened at the disk contacted with pad and the connection part fixing disk rotor. Instead of initial state, the temperature is uniformly distributed at transient state. As the area of hole at disk rotor face becomes wider, thermal stress becomes lower at the initial state. On the other hand, in case the number of holes increases, thermal stress becomes lower at the elapsed time of 100 seconds. The thermal durability of bike disk brake can be improved by applying this study result with configurations of holes.

  • The embedded atom method based on the density functional theory is used for calculating ground state properties of realistic metal systems. In this paper, we had corrected constitutive formulae and parameters on the palladium for the purpose of doing Embedded Atom Method analysis. And then we have computed the properties of the palladium on the fundamental scale of the atomic structure. In result, simulated ground state properties, such as the lattice constant, elastics constants and the sublimation energy, show good agreement with Daw's simulation data and with experimental data.
