Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Multi Path Routing Algorithm for IPv6

  • In this paper we propose a Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 (ACMRA). The basic DiffServ architecture lacks an admission control mechanism, the injection of more QoS sensitive traffic into the network can cause congestion at the core of the network. Our Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 combines the admission control phase with the route finding phase, and our routing protocol has been designed in a way to work alongside DiffServ based networks. The Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 constructs label switched paths in order to provide rigorous QoS provisioning. We have conducted extensive simulations to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed admission control and routing algorithm. Simulation Results show that the Differentiated Services Based Admission Control and Routing Algorithm for IPv6 provides an excellent packet delivery ratio, reduces the control packets' overhead, and makes use of the resources present on multiple paths to the destination network, while almost each admitted flow shows compliance with its Service Level Agreement.

  • All-IP network requires change of the existing IP network engineering methods as the convergence service market between communication and broadcasting industries using IP network is growing rapidly. Especially the video services like IPTV require more strict transmission quality and higher bandwidth than the existing data services. So it is difficult to design All-IP network by the over-provisioning method which used to be used for the existing IP network design. It also requires a heavy investment which becomes one of big obstacles to the IPTV service expansion. In order to reduce the investment costs, it is required to design an optimized network by maximizing the utilization of the network resources and at the same time maintaining the customer satisfaction in terms of service quality. In this paper, we first analyze the effects of IPTV traffic on the existing internet. Then we compare two traffic engineering technologies, which are dimensioning without admission control and dimensioning with admission control, on the All-IP network design by simulation. Finally, we suggest cost effectiveness of traffic engineering technologies for designing the All-IP network.

SELFCON: An Architecture for Self-Configuration of Networks

  • Traditional configuration management involves complex labor-intensive processes performed by experts. The configuration tasks such as installing or reconfiguring a system, provisioning network services and allocating resources typically involve a large number of activities involving multiple network elements. The network elements may be associated with proprietary configuration management instrumentation and may also be spread across heterogeneous network domains thereby increasing the complexity of configuration management. This paper introduces an architecture for the self-configuration of networks (SELFCON). The proposed architecture involves a directory server, which is uses to maintain configuration information. The configuration information stared in the directory server is modeled using the standard DEN specification thereby allowing effective exchange of network, system and configuration management data among heterogeneous management domains. SELFCON associates configuration intelligence with the components of the network, rather than limit it to a centralized management station. The network elements are notified about related changes in configuration policies, based upon which, they perform self-configuration. SELFCON is able to provide automation of configuration management and also an effective unifying framework for enterprise management.

  • NFV (Network Function Virtualization)를 통해 네트워크 사업자, 캐리어 등과 같은 업계에서는 NFV가 추구하는 S/W 기반의 장치를 통하여 신규 서비스 제공의 신속성과 네트워크 구축의 유연성 (flexibility)를 향상 시켜 CAPEX/OPEX를 대폭 감소시키고자 하였다. NFV 네트워크를 구축하여 동적인 서비스를 제공하기 위한 가장 중요한 고려사항 중의 하나는 네트워크 서비스의 기본 구성 요소인 리소스 (VNF)들을 적재적소에 동적으로 할당하는 방식을 결정하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 NFV에서 임의의 NS를 제공하기 위해 필요한 VNF의 노드, 링크 할당 및 노드에서의 스케줄링에 관한 최신 연구 동향을 분석하였다. 또한 본 논문에서는 이러한 연구결과를 기반으로 향후 RA (Resource Allocation)에서 추가적으로 연구해야 하는 스케줄링 문제 또한 제안하였다.

Topology-based Workflow Scheduling in Commercial Clouds

  • Cloud computing has become a new paradigm by enabling on-demand provisioning of applications, platforms or computing resources for clients. Workflow scheduling has always been treated as one of the most challenging problems in clouds. Commercial clouds have been widely used in scientific research, such as biology, astronomy and weather forecasting. Certainly, it is very important for a cloud service provider to pursue the profits for the commercial essence of clouds. This is also significantly important for the case of providing services to workflow tasks. In this paper, we address the issues of workflow scheduling in commercial clouds. This work takes the communication into account, which has always been ignored. And then, a topology-based workflow-scheduling algorithm named Resource Auction Algorithm (REAL) is proposed in the objective of getting more profits. The algorithm gives a good performance on searching for the optimum schedule for a sample workflow. Also, we find that there exists a certain resource amount, which gets the most profits to help us get more enthusiasm for further developing the research. Experimental results demonstrate that the analysis of the strategies for most profits is reasonable, and REAL gives a good performance on efficiently getting an optimized scheme with low computing complexity.

Dynamic Service Assignment based on Proportional Ordering for the Adaptive Resource Management of Cloud Systems

  • The key issue in providing fast and reliable access on cloud services is the effective management of resources in a cloud system. However, the high variation in cloud service access rates affects the system performance considerably when there are no default routines to handle this type of occurrence. Adaptive techniques are used in resource management to support robust systems and maintain well-balanced loads within the servers. This paper presents an adaptive resource management for cloud systems which supports the integration of intelligent methods to promote quality of service (QoS) in provisioning of cloud services. A technique of dynamically assigning cloud services to a group of cloud servers is proposed for the adaptive resource management. Initially, cloud services are collected based on the excess cloud services load and then these are deployed to the assigned cloud servers. The assignment function uses the proposed proportional ordering which efficiently assigns cloud services based on its resource consumption. The difference in resource consumption rate in all nodes is analyzed periodically which decides the execution of service assignment. Performance evaluation showed that the proposed dynamic service assignment (DSA) performed best in throughput performance compared to other resource allocation algorithms.

신속한 다계층 보호 복구를 위한 경로선택 방식 연구 (A Study on Path Selection Scheme for Fast Restoration in Multilayer Networks)

  • 최근 스마트 폰과 같은 다양한 단말의 보급이 확대됨에 따라 지속적인 트래픽 증가로 인해 이를 처리하기 위한 전달망 및 통신망 제어기술 또한 급속히 발전하고 있다. 이러한 추세를 반영하여 차세대 네트워크는 다양한 스위칭 계층으로 구성되고 이를 Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching(GMPLS) 프로토콜로 제어하는 형태로 구성될 것이다. 그러나 다계층 네트워크에서의 장애는 보호 복구 기능들 간의 충돌을 유발하여, 복구 시간의 지연, 망 자원의 비효율적 사용 등을 초래할 수 있다. 따라서 계층별 보호 복구 기능 간의 신속한 복구 경로설정이 다계층 네트워크에서 가장 중요한 과제가 되었다. 본 논문에서는 PCE(Path Computation Element)를 기반으로 다계층, 다중 도메인 네트워크에서 최적의 트래픽 엔지니어링을 지원하기 위한 기법을 제안하였다.

A Machine Learning-based Real-time Monitoring System for Classification of Elephant Flows on KOREN

  • With the advent and realization of Software Defined Network (SDN) architecture, many organizations are now shifting towards this paradigm. SDN brings more control, higher scalability, and serene elasticity. The SDN spontaneously changes the network configuration according to the dynamic network requirements inside the constrained environments. Therefore, a monitoring system that can monitor the physical and virtual entities is needed to operate this type of network technology with high efficiency and proficiency. In this manuscript, we propose a real-time monitoring system for data collection and visualization that includes the Prometheus, node exporter, and Grafana. A node exporter is configured on the physical devices to collect the physical and virtual entities resources utilization logs. A real-time Prometheus database is configured to collect and store the data from all the exporters. Furthermore, the Grafana is affixed with Prometheus to visualize the current network status and device provisioning. A monitoring system is deployed on the physical infrastructure of the KOREN topology. Data collected by the monitoring system is further pre-processed and restructured into a dataset. A monitoring system is further enhanced by including machine learning techniques applied on the formatted datasets to identify the elephant flows. Additionally, a Random Forest is trained on our generated labeled datasets, and the classification models' performance are verified using accuracy metrics.

계산과학 시뮬레이션을 위한 실시간 가상 클러스터 생성 및 I/O 성능 향상 기법 (A Technique for Provisioning Virtual Clusters in Real-time and Improving I/O Performance on Computational-Science Simulation Environments)

  • 최근 시뮬레이션이 다양한 계산과학 및 산업 분야에서 널리 활용되면서, 컴퓨팅 자원에 대한 그 요구사항 또한 점점 다양해지고 있다. 특히 이러한 요구는 기존 슈퍼컴퓨터와 같은 CPU 중심의 자원에서 벗어나, 사용자 별 설정 및 활용이 쉬운 유연하고 효율적인 고성능 클라우드 컴퓨팅의 필요성이 커지고 있다. 클라우드 컴퓨팅을 이용해 시뮬레이션을 수행하기 위해서는 다수의 가상머신으로 이루어진 대규모의 가상 클러스터의 실시간 구축이 필연적이다. 이러한 대규모의 가상 클러스터 생성은 동시 다발적인 가상머신 요청을 야기시키고, 이 요청들에 의해 대기 시간이 매우 길어지는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 이런 문제의 주요 원인은 각각의 가상머신에서 사용되는 가상 이미지를 생성, 복사하는 작업들간에 병목 현상 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 가상머신 이미지들의 생성 시간을 최소화하고, 가상 클러스터의 I/O 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 또한 다양한 실험을 통해 제안한 방법의 우수성을 검증한다.

다중 피어 및 공유 자원의 신뢰성 향상을 위한 P2P 네트워크의 평판 관리 (A Reputation Management Scheme Improving the Trustworthiness of Multi-peers and Shared Resources in P2P Networks)

  • P2P 네트워크가 가진 오픈성과 익명성 때문에 P2P 참여자들은 손쉽게 신뢰할 수 없는 자원들을 확산할 수 있다. 신뢰할 수 없는 자원의 확산을 감소시킴과 동시에 이러한 자원을 제공하는 악의적인 피어들이 P2P 네트워크에 참여하는 것을 제한하기 위하여 피어들의 과거 행동을 나타내는 평판을 이용할 수 있으며 이 정보는 피어들의 미래 행동을 예측하는데 도움이 된다. 한편 평판을 참조하는데 있어 몇몇 피어는 특정 피어의 평판을 증가 또는 감소시키기 위하여 고의적으로 거짓 평가(false feedback)를 제공할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 거짓 평가를 주는 피어들을 식별함으로써 P2P 네트워크의 신뢰성과 효율성을 향상시킬 수 있는 새로운 평판 관리 기법, TrustRRep(Trustable Resource sharing service using Reputation)를 제안하고자 한다. 제안기법은 악의적인 피어들에 의한 자원 공유를 식별함으로써 공유 자원에 대한 신뢰성 또한 제공할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 NS-2 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 제안 기법과 기존 평판 관리 기법의 효율성을 비교하고 분석하였다. 제안 기법은 신뢰할 수 없는 자원에 대한 다운로드 횟수를 감소시켜 신뢰할 수 없는 자원의 확산을 막고, 거짓 평가를 주는 피어의 식별 및 피어들의 평판에 신뢰성을 제공한다. 또한 악의적인 피어들의 신뢰 값을 감소시킴으로써 P2P 네트워크의 참석에 제약을 가한다.
