In this paper, we consider a resource allocation scheme for millimeter wave-based wireless personal area networks using directional antennas. This scheme involves scheduling the reservation period of medium access control for IEEE 802.15.3c. Objective functions are considered to minimize the average delay and maximize throughput; and two scheduling algorithms-namely, MInMax concurrent transmission and MAxMin concurrent transmission-are proposed to provide a suboptimal solution to each objective function. These are based on an exclusive region and two decision rules that determine the length of reservation times and the transmission order of groups. Each group consists of flows that are concurrently transmittable via spatial reuse. The algorithms appropriately apply two decision rules according to their objectives. A real video trace is used for the numerical results, which show that the proposed algorithms satisfy their objectives. They outperform other schemes on a range of measures, showing the effect of using a directional antenna. The proposed scheme efficiently supports variable bit rate traffic during the reservation period, reducing resource waste.
With growth of Internet, real time multimedia application services require guarantee of QoS (Quality of Service). However, the existing Internet based on best-effort service is not enough to support those services, so MARS model to support IP multicast over ATM networks and RSVP to provide heterogeneous QoS by resource reservation scheme are proposed. As a simulation result, it is proved that processing delay of MARS is increased and success of resource reservation is decreased as a number of QoS change request of a receiver is increased. Therefore, it is important to provide heterogeneous QoS that distribute a load of MARS caused by convergence of messages and efficiently manage the resource of network as to find out scale of receivers and frequency of QoS change request.

The HPcN (Hybrid & high Performance Convergence Network) in research networks means environment which can provide both computing resource such as supercomputer, cluster and network resource to application researchers in the field of medical, bio, aerospace and e-science. The most representative research network in Korea, KREONET has been developing following technologies through the HERO (Hybrid Networking project for research oriented infrastructure) from 200S. First, we have constructed and deployed a control plane technology which can provide a connection oriented network dynamically. Second, the integrated resource management system technology has been developing for reservation and allocation of both computing and network resources, whenever users want to utilize them. In this paper, a testbed network is presented, which is possible to reserve and allocate network resource using the integrated resource management system. We reserve network resource through GNSI (Grid Network Service Interface) messages between GRS (Global Resource Scheduler) and NRM (Network Resource Manager) and allocate network resource through GUNI (Grid User Network Interface) messages between the NRM (network resource manager) and routers, based on reservation information provided from a user on the web portal. It is confirmed that GUNI interface messages are delivered from the NRM to each router at the starting of reservation time and traffic is transmitted through LSP allocated by the NRM.

In Integrated Services Internet the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) provides a signaling mechanism for end to end QoS. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme using a Hierarchical Mobile Agents Tree (HMAT) based on the definition of new option called QoS Object Option (QOO) in order to improve the efficiency during handoff in Integrated Services Internet. Mobile agents are required to manage QOO, resource reservation and other mobility related basks un behalf of mobile hosts. This scheme is based on Mobile IPv6.

In video-on-demand systems, the I.O bandwidth of video servers is the critical resource which contributes to increase in latency. Several approaches: bridging, piggybacking are used to reduce the I/O demand on the video server through sharing. Batching delays the requests for the different videos for a batching window so that more requests for the same video arriving during the current batching window may be served using the same stream. In this paper, we propose an adaptive reservation-based batching policy which dynamically reserves video server capacity for popoular videos according to video server loads. The performance of the proposed policy is evaluated through a simulation, and is compared with simple batching and static reservation-based batching policies. As the result, we know that the adaptive reservation-based batching policy more improves service ratio and average waiting time than simple batching and simple reservation-based batching policy more improves service ratio and average waiting time than simple batching and simple reservation-based batching polices.
Providing a mobile host with its required QoS is highly influenced by its mobility. The resource ReSerVation Protocol(RSVP) establishes and maintains a reservation state to ensure a given QoS level along the path from the sender to the receiver. However, RSVP is designed for use in fixed networks and thus it is inadequate in the mobile networking environment where a host changes its point of attachment. In this paper, we propose a new resource reservation protocol, RSVP-RA(RSVP by RSVP Agent) for mobile hosts. Our protocol assumes IETF Mobile IP as a mobility support mechanism. The proposed protocol introduce a new protocol entity - RSVP agent - to manage reservations in a mobile host's current visiting network. RSVP Agent is located in a local network and makes resource reservations in neighboring cells that the mobile host is expected to visit in the future. Thus, the proposed Protocol can provide a seamless QoS to the mobile host and significantly improve the scalability problem of RSVP by reducing the end-to-end signalling messages acrossing the backbone networks. The proposed protocols reduce packet delay, bandwidth overhead and the number of RSVP messages to maintain reservation states. We compared the performance of our proposed protocol with other proposed protocols in terms of signalling overhead, packet delay by simulation.
In order to minimize the signaling delay for a resource reservation on the new routing path after the handover of Mobile Node(MN) is completed, it is important to discover the crossover node where the old and new routing paths meet. With the 크로스오버 노드 being found, the signaling messages only need to be transferred on the changed part of the end-to-end path. The crossover node is generally discovered using the end-to-end Session ID(SID) of the established session between MN and Correspondent Node(CN). However, in the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6(HMIPv6) network, if the Mobile Anchor Point (MAP) reserves the resource by aggregate with the Home Agent(HA), the crossover node discovery cannot be performed in the general way since the aggregate SID that has established between the previous MAP and HA is different from the that of the current MAP and HA after MN's handover. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to discover the crossover node within the tunnel between the MAP and the HA in an HMIPv6 network, assuming that the Next Steps in Signaling(NSIS) is deployed for the resource reservation and the aggregate reservation is applied over the MAP and HA tunnel. The local repair required for the change of path is performed upon the crossover node discovery. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the signaling delay for the reservation and outperforms the existing scheme with respect to throughput during the handover.
In order to provide continuous QoS guaranteed to a mobile user, it is required to deploy some kind of mechanisms which reserves resources in advance at the locations to which the mobile user is expected to move. An important issue with regards to these mechanisms is to minimize the waste of resources caused by redundant reservations while keeping up the QoS guaranteed services to the user In this paper, we propose a wireless network domain structure which deploys a special cell, called “a gray cell”. The boundaries of two or more neighboring domains are surrounded by the gray cells, and the gray cells are supposed to belong to all of its neighboring domains. Based on this wireless domain structure, we propose a mechanism which completely removes the waste of redundant resource reservation in the wireless network domain while greatly reducing the risk of reservation disruption caused by inter-domain handover. Using simulation, it is shown that the proposed mechanism can deal with inter-domain handover as effectively as it does with intra-domain handover. It is also presented that the proposed mechanism outperforms existing mechanisms with respect to reservation disruption time and packet losses caused by handovers.
This paper investigates the Performance of MSA l (group partition based reservation scheduling algorithm) and MSA ll (group based reservation scheduling algorithm) for multicast service in single-hop WDM networks. Simulation results show that MSA l produces lower mean packet delay than MSA ll when the channel resource is sufficient. However, when the channel resource is limited, MSA ll produces lower mean packet delay than MSA I when traffic load is heavy.
In broadband convergence network(BcN), heterogeneous broadband wired & wireless subnetworks and various terminal equipments will be interconnected. In order to provide end-to-end realtime multimedia services on such heterogeneous networking environment, as a result, two major problems should be resolved: i) Multimedia session establishment & negotiation that adjusts the differences in the capability of multimedia data processing at the end terminal nodes, ii) quality of service(QoS)-guaranteed connection establishment or resource reservation with connection admission control(CAC) in each heterogeneous subnetworks along the path. The session layer signaling(e.g., SIP/SDP) should be extended for QoS negotiation, and must be tightly cooperating with network layer signaling or resource reservation with CAC function. In this paper we propose a session and connection management architecture for the QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia service provisioning on BcN, with Q-SIP/SDP, resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering extension, and CAC functions. The detailed interaction scenario and related algorithms for QoS-guaranteed realtime multimedia session, resource reservation and connection establishment are explained and analyzed. From the experimental implementation of the proposed scheme on a small scale BcN testbed, we verified that the proposed architecture is applicable for the realtime multimedia service provisioning. We analyze the network performance and QoS parameters in detail.
