  • A new controller design method for an oscillatory servomotor system withlow torsional resonant frequencyis investigated to directly satisfyte given time domain specifications under the hardware constraints. A PIDM controller with optimized feedback gains using a new time weighted modelfollowing performance index is employed in this system. Necessaryconditions for optimality are derived and a design procedure for the desired moedel system considering the actualhardware limitations are also syggested. Using the proposed technique, the output responese of an oscillatory servomotor system can closely match to that of a desired model system by effectively suppressing the torsional resonant phenomenon. The usefulness of proposed design technique is clearly shown in the design examples.

  • In 3-phase 4-wire inverter, the unbalanced loads cause to increase the neutral current which brings the voltage deviation between the split dc-link capacitors to be larger. In order to solve this problem, a neutral leg is provided additively to the ordinary inverter circuit and the associated control methods are devised. This paper proposes a new neutral-leg controller based on a PR controller and shows relatively good performance even under unbalanced linear loads and nonlinear loads. The proposed control strategy illustrates its effectiveness under the various operating conditions through simulation works.

  • This paper describes a high power resonant inverter for diagnostic X-ray generators using zero-voltage soft-switching technology. The system consists of a step-down chopper, a resonant phase-shift PWM inverter, a hihg-voltage diode, and high voltage cables a smoothing DC capacitor. The inverter makes use the leakage inductance of the hihg-voltage transformer and external capacitor as resonant components. The rectified input voltage is controlled by a step-down chopper with input voltage compensator. The output regualtion is obtained by a resonant phase-shift PWM inverter with the digital feedback controller using DSP (digital signal processor), resulting in fast rising time and wide output voltage variation. The theoretical results are correlated with results from an experimental prototype of a 7-kVp, 300mA (21kW).

  • Resonant-type electronic ballast for a metal halide discharge(MHD) lamp is proposed and implemented for 400W MHD lamp. HID lamps have good color rendition, long life and good focusing capability but they have flickers by acoustic resonance when driven at high frequency. A new control method is employed to remove acoustic resonance related instability in HID lamp. By using the amplitude modulation, a spread spectrum effect is employed on the ballast. The control loop of resonant inverter is analyzed and a current is designed. The ballast consists of a power factor controller, an half-bridge resonant inverter, a simple ignitor and an integrator with OP-amps. The experimental results show the good performance as PF 0.93, ballast loss 22W at output 400W and the conducted EMI level is below 60dBuV.

  • Vibrations caused by automobile engine are absorbed mostly by a passive-type engine mount. However, user specifications for automobile vibrations require more stringent conditions and higher standard. Hence, active-type engine mount have been developed to cope with such specifications. The active-type engine mount consists of sensor, actuator and controller where a control algorithm is implemented. The performance of the active engine mount depends on the control algorithm if the sensor and actuator satisfies the specification. The control algorithm should be able to suppress persistent vibrations caused by the engine which are related to engine revolution. In this study, three control algorithms are considered for suppressing persistent vibrations, which are the positive position feedback control algorithm, the strain-rate feedback control algorithm, and the modified higher harmonic control algorithm. Experimental results show that all the control algorithms considered in this study are effective in suppressing resonant vibrations but the modified higher harmonic controller is the most effective controller for non-resonant vibrations.

  • This paper deal with a design and a constant output power control of Zero Current Zero Voltage Switching(ZCZVS) resonant type DC-DC converter by a digital I-PD phase shift controller. When the DC-DC converter for a high density and a high effect control is operated in high speed switching, the switching loss and switching stress of the switching devices are increased. So, the ZCZVS method, which has the phase shift control with the digital I-PD controller, must be use in order to reduce its. And the constant output power voltage that controlled by the digital I-PD controller tracks a reference without steady state error in variable input voltage. The validity of control strategy that proposed is verified experimental results by the Digital Signal Processor TMS320C32.

  • In industry, there are several different controllers which can be implemented for power conditioning systems (PCS) such as proportional-resonant (PR), predictive deadbeat (PD), or proportional-integral (PI) controller. But there are not any comparison studies about these controllers. To investigate the differences between the three types of the controllers, this paper presents a comparative study of PR, PI, and PD controllers in a photovoltaic (PV) PCS. These controllers are designed mathematically and simulated for the comparative analysis. The PI controller is designed in the rotating reference (dq) frame. The PR and PD controllers are implemented in the natural (abc) reference frame. The PCS is composed of a DC-DC boost converter and a full bridge inverter. The filter of the PCS is an LCL filter including a passive damping resistor. The parameters of PCS are 3 kW, 25 kHz switching frequency and 220 V-60 Hz grid voltage. The comparison results between these controllers for the grid-connected PCS are clearly shown. The simulation results demonstrate the detailed characteristics of each controller for the PV PCS in order to choose the controller for individual target properly.

  • This paper presents a design techniques for an electronic ballast of HID lamps. An electronic ballast for HID lamps usually employs a high-frequeocy resonant inverter and voltage-to-frequency converter to control the outpIt and a half-bridge and series resonant circuit are chosen for the ballast First, to design PI controller, the inverter with V/F converter is modeled with a transfer function and the controller PI gains are determined. This paper shows that an integral controller is only needed to control the current. Second, a se1f-feedback controller is proposed. This structure, simple and robust, is analyzed and a feedback gain is determined by using the inverter model. Experirrental system is built with a commercial 250W high pressure sodium lamp and the results show a validity of the proposed ballast and the total efficiency is increased by 5%.

  • This paper proposes a speed variable proportional resonant current control method for a single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Due to the electromagnetic characteristics of a single-phase PMSM, negative and zero torques are generated in the part corresponding to the phase difference between the stator current and the back electromotive force. In addition, overcurrent limitation is required because of the low stator resistance and inductance in sensorless operation. When using the vector control for current control of single-phase PMSM under these conditions, processes of coordinate transformation, inverse coordinate transformation, and generation of virtual dq-axis components are required. However, the proposed variable speed proportional resonant current control method does not need the coordinate transformation used for AC motors. In this paper, we have confirmed stable maneuverability by using variable proportional resonant current control algorithm, and proposed sensorless control based on a mathematical model of a single-phase PMSM without a position sensor when reaching a constant speed. The usefulness of the current control method was verified through several experiments.
