  • Rubber materials are extensively used in various machine design application, mainly for vibration/shock/noise control devices. Over the years an enormous effort has been put into developing procedures to provide properties of rubber material for design function. However, there are still a lot of difficulties in the understanding of dynamic characteristics of the rubber components in compression. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of rubber materials for anti-vibration under compression were investigated. Dynamic and static tests for rubber material with 3 different hardness were performed. In dynamic tests, non-resonance method, impedance method, was used to obtain the complex modulus (storage modulus and loss factor) and the effects of static pre-strain on the dynamic characteristics were investigated. Also, a relation equation between linear dynamic and nonlinear static behavior of rubber material was discussed and its usefulness to predict their combined effects was investigated.

  • The proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) is used to the modal analysis of microcantilever of dynamic mode atomic force microscopy(AFM). The proper orthogonal modes(POM) are extracted from vibrating signals of microcantilever when it resonates and taps the sample. The POMs resemble the linear normal modes(LNM) of cantilever vibrating at each resonance frequency. Some of POMs in tapping microcantilever show quite different shapes from the POMs of the resonating microcantilever. Also this POMs can be applied to model for the complex nonlinear behavior of the dynamic mode AFM microcantilevers.

  • In molecular imaging studies via magnetic resonance imaging, in vivo cell tracking is an important issue for the observation of cell therapy or disease behavior. High resolution imaging and longitudinal study are necessary to track the cell movement. Since the field inhomogeneity extends over several voxels, we have performed the numerical analysis using the sub-voxel method dividing a voxel of MR image into several elements and the information about the field inhomogeneity distribution around the micro-beads. We imbedded ferrite-composite micro-beads with the size of $20-150{\mu}m$ in the subject substituted for cells to induce local field distortion. In the phantom imaging with the isotropic voxel size of $200{\mu}m^3$, we could confirm the feasibility of sub-voxel tracking in a 3.0 T MRI.

  • This paper addresses on the model synthesis and performance analysis of an engine mount featuring electro-rheological(ER) fluids which undergo a phase change when subjected to electric fields. A novel type of ER fluid-filled engine mount is devised and its hydraulic model is constructed. An equivalent mechanical model is subsequently obtained from the governing equation of the hydraulic model. The model parameters associated with the ER fluids are distilled from experimental investigations on the Bingham properties of the fluids. The distilled data are then incorporated into the governing model to undertake feasible work through computer simulations,. It is shown that the proposed engine mount has an inherent capability of controlling both the damping force and the resonance frequency. Other superior performance characteristics accrued from the proposed methodology are also evaluated.

  • This paper describes a combinational method to compute the global and local solutions of optimization problems. The present hybrid algorithm uses both a genetic algorithm and a local concentrate search algorithm (e. g simplex method). The hybrid algorithm is not only faster than the standard genetic algorithm but also supplies a more accurate solution. In addition, this algorithm can find the global and local optimum solutions. The present algorithm can be supplied to minimize the resonance response (Q factor) and to yield the critical speeds as far from the operating speed as possible. These factors play very important roles in designing a rotor-bearing system under the dynamic behavior constraint. In the present work, the shaft diameter, the bearing length, and clearance are used as the design variables.

  • A universal joint is a connecting device of two hinges which can transmit torque from one shaft to another at fixed or at varying angles of intersection. It has been used properly not only as rotational but also as intermittent motion. For the particular kinematics condition of a universal joint, torsional and bending vibrations are produced excessively in an elastic driveline. In this paper only the torsional vibration behavior of a driveline with universal joints is analyzed numerically with the discrete model and a design method of the dynamic vibration damper is proposed, in order to reduce torsional vibrations especially in resonance region as a result of parametric variation.

  • Nonlinear normal mode (NNM) vibration, in a nonlinear dual mass Hamiltonian system, which has 6$\^$th/ order homogeneous polynomial as a nonlinear term, is studied in this paper. The existence, bifurcation, and the orbital stability of periodic motions are to be studied in the phase space. In order to find the analytic expression of the invariant curves in the Poincare Map, which is a mapping of a phase trajectory onto 2 dimensional surface in 4 dimensional phase space, Whittaker's Adelphic Integral, instead of the direct integration of the equations of motion or the Birkhoff-Gustavson (B-G) canonical transformation, is derived for small value of energy. It is revealed that the integral of motion by Adelphic Integral is essentially consistent with the one obtained from the B-G transformation method. The resulting expression of the invariant curves can be used for analyzing the behavior of NNM vibration in the Poincare Map.

  • The spin wave absorption spectra are obtained by a simultaneous solution of the Maxwell equation and the Gilbert equation considering the boundary condition of electromagnetic wave and magnetization in the film surfaces. The physical parameters that influence the absorption energy are thickness, exchange stiffness constant, surface magnetic anisotropy, magnetization. damping factor, electric resistivity of the thin film. We investigated how these parameters affect the resonance field, the linewidth and the intensity of the spin wave spectrum.

  • It is known that bogie frame must have sufficient stiffness for car body and passenger weight and transfer traction and braking force, and as of today most studies and verifications are restricted to static and fatigue analysis for force acted on bogie frame. Bogie frame is mounted with equipments to control the signal, traction and so on, this equipment's behavior is subjected to vibration mode occurs on running condition. If the resonance occurs on this equipment, the possibility of crack occurrence on bracket connected with equipment and bogie frame will be increased. In this paper, the method of vibration strength verification for bracket attached on bogie frame will be introduced by using frequency response method.
