We conducted DC resistivity and MT survey to obtain the resistivity structure of the central Myanmar basin. We tried to analyze the underground structure through the resistivity variation of Myanmar by performing representative geophysical survey methods because researches on the electrical resistivity structure are insufficient in Myanmar. The electrical resistivity is expected to be low considering the marine sedimentary rocks composed of shale and sandstone in this area. The DC resistivity and MT survey were carried out using SmartRho of Geolux Co., Ltd. and MTU-5A of Phoenix geophysics Ltd., respectively, to visualize the electrical resistivity structure of study area. DC resistivity and MT survey showed an electrical resistivity less than dozens of ohm-m within the depth of 100 m. In particular, MT survey data were almost similar to TM and TE modes in the frequency range above 1 Hz. The two-dimensional inversion of MT data showed a subsurface structure with low resistivity below 150 ohm-m divided into east-west direction. We confirmed that the inversions of DC resisitivity and MT data along an overlapped survey line represented similar results. In the future, considering the high electrical conductivity, it would be effective to perform DC resistivity and MT survey simultaneously to study the electrical resistivity structure of the central Myanmar basin.

Resistivity tomography is very effective geophysical method to find out the resistivity distribution and its change in time around a tunnel. Thus, the resistivity tomogram can provide helpful information which is necessary for the effective maintenance of the tunnel. However, an air filled tunnel severely distorts tomography data, especially when the current or potential electrode is placed near the tunnel. Moreover, the distortion can often lead to misinterpretation of tomography monitoring data. To solve these problem, we developed a resistivity modeling and time-lapse inversion program which include a tunnel. In this study, using the developed program we assured that the inversion including a tunnel gives much more accurate image around a tunnel, compared with the conventional tomogram where the tunnel is not included. We also confirmed that the time-lapse inversion of resistivity monitoring data defines well resistivity changed areas around a tunnel in time.
A numerical program has been developed to model 2-D resistivity responses for a pole-pole array configuration in cross-hole resistivity measurements. Apparent resistivity and secondary potential were computed using the program for a cylindrical inhomogeneity in an uniform host medium excited by a point source of current in a borehole. Surprisingly apparent resistivity in the receiver hole turns out to be lower than the one of surrounding medium regardless of the conductivity of cylindrical inhomogeneity. Using only cross-hole data, therefore, it is impossible to interpret the conductivity of inhomogeneity. To overcome this problem, 3-D measurement and interpretation are necessary. If 3-D data acquisition is impossible, inline data should be used to get the information about the conductivity of inhomogeneity.

The resistivity of soils depends on grains size, porosity, water saturation, pore fluid resistivity, caly contents and son on. It is very important to understand the relationship between resistivity and such physical properties of soils, in order to interpret and evaluate ground conditions by using resistivity data obtained from electrical resistivity prospecting. In this paper, to study the relationship between resistivity and physical properties of soils, the resistivity of glass beads and compacted soil samples both in saturated and unsaturated conditions is measured. As the results, the resistivity of saturated soils depends mainly on porosity and clay contents, while that of unsaturated soils is sensitive to compaction conditions, and decreases with increasing water content until the optimum water condition, that is the maximum dry density. But, the relationship between resistivity and water saturation for soils is unique, being independent of compaction energy. Also, the resistivity ratio decrease with increasing water saturation, followed by no significant change of resistivity ratio over 80 percent of water saturation (the optimum water content).

Electrical resistivity is an important physical property of portland cement concrete which is directly related to chloride induced corrosion process. This study examined the electrical surface resistivity (SR) and bulk electrical resistivity (BR) of concrete cylinders for various binary and ternary based high-performance concrete (HPC) mixtures from 7 to 161 days. Two different types of instruments were utilized for this investigation and they were 4 point Wenner probe meter for SR and Merlin conductivity tester for bulk resistivity measurements. Chronological development of electrical resistivity as well as correlation between two types of resistivity on several days was established for all concrete mixtures. The ratio of experimental surface resistance to bulk resistance and corresponding resistivity was computed and compared with theoretical values. Results depicted that bulk and SR are well correlated for different groups of HPC mixtures and these mixtures have attained higher range of electrical resistivity for both types of measurements. In addition, this study presents distribution of surface and bulk resistivity in different permeability classes as proposed by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specification from 7 to 161 days. Furthermore, electrical resistivity data for several HPC mixtures and testing procedure provide multiple promising options for long lasting bridge decks against chloride induced corrosion due to its ease of implementation, repeatability, non-destructive nature, and low cost.
A set of geophysical survey results over an area in Bookil-myun, Chungwon-Gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do is presented; resistivity logging, d.c. sounding, dipole-dipole resistivity, and controlled-source magnetotelluric (CSMT) surveys. These surveys were chosen in this research for the estimation of the basement depth and the delineation of the hydrogeologic structure over the survey area. The results provide an optimal input to a hydrogeologic modeling analysis using the strategies built in GIS software. A total of 14 lines of dipole-dipole resistivity surveys, 25 stations of d.c. sounding and 6 stations of CSMT sounding were performed. In addition 10 boreholes were chosen for resistivity logging to correlate the logs to the surface data. A quantitative information on the hydrogeologic structure over the area is provided by synthesizing the results from various geophysical data and attribute layers are constructed by utilizing a GIS software Arc/ Info. The constructed layers match well to the hydrogeologic structures, which were outlined from the drilling data. The methodology tested and adopted in this study would be useful for providing a more reliable input to the hydrogeologic model setup.
The aim of this paper is development of resistivity seismic dilatometer (RSDMT) system. The resistivity module for obtaining apparent resistivity depth plot and seismic module for obtaining shear wave velocity (Vs) depth plot are attached to the conventional flat dilatometer testing equipment. From shear wave velocity profile, the stiffness at low strains of a site can be evaluated in undisturbed condition. And the resistivity value contains some information about water content and mineral characteristics of clayey soil. Specially manufactured resistivity and seismic modules were connected between commercialized DMT blade and drilling rod. To enhance reliability and repeatability of RSDMT test, automatic testing system including notebook based data acquisition system and automatic surface source system were developed. RSDMT system can be performed rapidly and can obtaine more reliable data at the same point compared with the separated testing system. The verification studies for the developed RSDMT system are going to be performed. From these studies, the effectiveness of integrated hybrid testing system will be checked in light of proper evaluation of geotechnical design parameters of clayey soils.
Three-dimensional (3D) resistivity method is an effective tool in the engineering site survey because it can provide a 3D resistivity distribution of the site. In this study, we tried to find out faults, fractures and coal seams that can cause the collapse of the tunnel. We carried out 2D resistivity survey along 5 parallel lines and 11 cross lines and merged all the apparent resistivity data for 3D inversion. Finally, from the 3D resistivity image and drilling data we presented the 3D distribution of faults, fractures and coal seams that are considered the main cause of the tunnel collapse.
Resistivity method is a practical and effective geophysical technique to detect leakage zones in embankment dams. Generally, resistivity survey conducted along the crest assumes that the embankment dam has a 2D structure. However, the 3D topography of embankments distorts significantly resistivity data measured on anywhere of the dam. In this study, we analyse the influence from 3D effects created by specific dam geometry through the 3D finite element modeling technique. We compared 3D effects when resistivity surveys are carried out on the upstream slope, left edge of the crest, center of the crest, right edge of the crest and downstream slope. We ensure that 3D effect is greatly different according to the location of the survey line and data obtained on the downstream slope are most greatly influenced by 3D dam geometry. Also, resistivity data are more influenced by the electrical resistivity of materials constituting reservoir than 3D effects due to specific dam geometry. Furthermore, using resistivity data synthesized with 3D modeling program for an embankment dam model with leakage zone, we analyse the possibility of leakages detection from 2D resistivity surveys performed along the embankment dam.

Also, a comparison between different locations of survey line are carried out, and topographic correction technique is developed for the resistivity data obtained along the embankment dam. Furthermore, using synthetic resistivity data for an embankment dam model with leakage zone, detectability of leakage zones is estimated through 2.5D inversion.
