Effects of Close Kinetic Chain Resistant Exercise of Lower Extremity on the Gait with Stroke (닫힌 사슬 하지 저항운동이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of close kinetic chain resistant exercise of lower extremity on the gait with stroke patients. METHODS: The subjects were 50 patients who were diagnosed with cerebrovascular accident. They were randomly assigned either to a close kinetic chain resistant exercise of lower extremity group (study group)(n=25) or open kinetic chain resistant exercise of lower extremity exercise group (control group)(n=25). Gait abilities were measured by using Timed Up & Go (TUG) test, Functional Gait Assessment (FGA) and spatio-temporal gait variable that were velocity, cadence, stride length, double limb support by 3 axises wireless accelerometer and sway angle of center of mass by same instrument. RESULTS: Study group and control group before and after the intervention there were significantly difference in TUG, FGA, spatio-temporal gait variables and sway angle of center of mass (p<.05). There were significantly different between study group and control group for all variables at post-exercise. CONCLUSION: When all is said and done it is expected to be used as a method for the treatment and prevention in the process of rehabilitation of patients with stroke. In its final analysis when applying resistant exercise of lower extremity to stroke patients' gait, close kinetic chain is more effective than open kinetic chain.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Health exercise program on insulin resistant and blood lipid factor of elderly women for 12 weeks. The two groups were classified into one group(exercise group: EG) with aerobics exercise and band exercise both, the other group(control group: CG) controled. The group of EG was applied to doing aerobics exercise and band exercise 4 times for 60 minutes a week. The intensity of the exercise was ACSM. Each measurement variable was measured before and after 12 weeks to investigate the effect. During this study the result came out with this step. First, EG have shown interaction with blood lipid(TC, HDL, LDL, TG) and blood pressure(SBP, DBP)factor. Second, EG have shown interaction with insulin resistant(insulin, glucose). Therefore, this study gives us positive result to effect of health exercise program on blood lipid factor and insulin resistant factor of elderly women for 12 weeks.

Effect of lower extremity resistance exercise on gait performance in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus with cerebral infarction and lower extremity vasculitis: a case study

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of resistant exercise on the gait performance of a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patient. Design: A case study. Methods: A 30-year-old male adult who had been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythmatosus (SLE) in April 2013, right middle cerebral artery infarction, and with left hemiplegia agreed to participate in this case study. Patient was unable to walk due to being affected with adynamia. Due to developing necrotizing vasculitis on the left lower extremity, patient underwent a myotomy on the left thigh. The patient was trained with a progressive resistant exercise program for 8 weeks. An intensity of 15 RM was used for the resistant exercises and the resistance level was increased progressively in order to improve the muscle power of the patient. Methods used to increase resistance included changing positions, providing mechanical resistance instead of manual resistance, transitioning from open kinetic chain to closed kinetic chain exercises, and changing the colors of the theraband to those with increase level of resistance. Outcome measures included the 5-repetition sit-to- stand test (5RSST), Timed Up & Go (TUG), and 10-meter walk test (10MWT). In addition, the GAITRite was used to assess the spatio-temporal gait variables, including gait speed, cadence, stride length of the left side, and double limb support pre and post-intervention. Results: The patient was able to perform sit-to- stand after two weeks of performing the resistant exercises. The patient was able to walk after 4 weeks, and the patient's overall gait performance had improved after 8 weeks. All of the variables had improved after each week. Conclusions: The results of this case study may be used to enhance future efforts to objectively evaluate resistant exercises during gait performance in persons affected by SLE.

The Effect of Changing the Order of Exercise Types on Body Composition and Blood Lipid in Obese Women (복합운동의 운동유형 순서변화가 비만여성에게 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of changing the order of exercise types on body composition and blood lipid in obese women. The subjects were 40-years obese women. They were trained during the 12 weeks by combined exercise program which included aerobic and resistant exercises. 1. In the cases of weight, A group(aerobics and resistance training)more decreased than B group(resistance training and aerobics). There was not statistically significant difference before and after 12-week combined exercise program between the groups. In the case of body fat mass, A group more decreased than B group. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups(p<0.01). Lean body mass, A group more increased than B group but there was a statistically significant difference between the groups. A and B groups were decreased in abdominal percent fat and there was a not statistically significant difference between the groups. 2. There were not any significant differences between two groups after 12-week combined exercise program at total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride, and high density lipo-protein(HDL) cholesterol. 3. In the case of blood glucose, group A showed more decreased than group B after 12-week combined exercise program. The difference before and after exercise program of A and B groups was statistically significant(p<0.01).   • The purpose of this review is to summarize current knowledge regarding animal sarcopenia and frailty models and their diagnosis indexes. In addition, we introduce the effects of exercise interventions on sarcopenia and frailty syndrome. Data collection and analysis (fifteen published articles from 2005~2017) were conducted by using keywords' sarcopenia index, frailty index, exercise and mice, and so on' in academic search engines such as Google scholar and Pubmed. Sarcopenia and frailty are the representative syndromes in elderly peoples which those symptoms can be effectively prevented or delayed by extremely adjusted long term exercise interventions (The combined oxidative and resistant exercise program might be ideal.).

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of resistive exercise using an elastic band on range of motion, function and shoulder pain. Methods: Forty two subjects who had rotator cuff surgery were assigned either to a treatment or a comparison group, twenty one each. Following a six week period after surgery those in the treatment group participated in resistant exercise using an elastic band for four weeks. The subjects in the comparison group did not participate in the exercise program. The goniometer measured range of motion, a modified tool measured function, and a self report numerical rating scale measured pain. The data were analyzed using $x^2$ test, Fisher's exact, t-test and the Mann-Whitney Test. Results: Although not statistically significant, there was a trend that more subjects in the treatment group had increased range of motion. There was a statistically significance among the treatment group in terms of increased function (p=.015). Further the treatment group reported less pain that those in the comparison group (p<.001). Conclusion: The findings support that resistance exercise is an effective strategy for patients with rotator cuff repair.

A Study of Dietary Intake and Bone Mineral Density in Competitive Female Athletes (여성 운동 선수들의 골밀도 및 영양섭취실태에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the dietary intake and bone mineral density(BMDs) in college women(n = 10), female swimmers(n = 10), and female weight lifters(n = 10). BMDs of lumbar spine(L2-L4), femoral neck, ward's triangle, and trochanter were measured with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The results are summarized as follows. In swimmers and weight lifters, mean daily intakes of energy, protein, and fat were higher than those of college women and the intake of carbohydrate was significantly high in weight lifters. Also in swimmers and weight litters, mean daily intakes of animal flood, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B$_1$, vitamin B$_2$, niacin, vitamin C, and cholesterol were found higher than those of college women but there was difference among the types of exercise. According to correlation analysis between nutrient intake and BMDs, intakes of energy, protein, carbohydrate, and vitamin B$_1$ were positively associated with BMDs of lumbar spines. According to stepwise multiple recession analysis, BMDs of lumbar spines were affected by intakes of protein, Fe, phosphorus, and vitamin B$_2$, also BMDs of femur were affected by each of vegetable protein, dietary fiber, and fe. from the above explanation, the nutrient intakes can be independent factor besides exercise. In conclusion, the weight lifting, resistant exercise, resulted in increase of both BMDs of lumbar spines and femur specially in growing and adult period of female. Whereas swimming lead to increase of BMDs of lumbar spine and decrease of BMDs of femur in female.

Influence of Various Types of Exercise on Bone Formation and Resorption in Rats (운동 형태가 흰쥐의 뼈형성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effect of various types of exercise on bone formation and resorption in rat. Five-week-old male Sprague-Daweley rats were randomly assigned to one of four groups with 10 animals in each; Control, Treadmill, Swimming, Resistance. The exercise regimen consisted of treadmill running at 25m/min, 1 hr per day, 5 days a week, and swimming for 1 hr per day, 5 days a week. Resistant exercise type with weight-bearing was designed to extend lower and upper extremities in order to feed the diet and water. Food intake showed no significant difference among groups but body weight gain and food efficiency were significantly increased in Control group as compared with exercise groups. Femur and tibia length and weight were higher in Control group and the density of therm tended to be higher in exercise groups than Control group, but this difference was not statistically significant. The breaking force of femur was the highest in Swimming group and tibia was the highest in Resistance group among groups, while there was no signigicant difference among the exercise groups. The calcium content of femur was significantly increased in Resistance group than the other groups. Calcium intake and urinary calcium showed no significant difference among groups, while calcium absorption and retention were significantly higher in exercise group than Control group. In conclusion, exercise training enhanced bone formation due to the positive effect on metabolism of calcium and bone which were different according to the types of exercise.   • In this paper, AI methods such as deep learning are applied to provide customized exercise therapy for patients with kidney disease. In order to apply deep learning, a dataset that can determine kidney disease is trained to determine whether it is a kidney disease, and 1RM, which is the user's physical information and muscle strength according to whether it is a disease, can also be calculated through deep learning. The calculated muscle strength of 1RM was converted into resistant exercise for each part through a calculation equation for each part of the body, and was configured to be provided with an aerobic exercise amount tailored to the user's body information. If continuous research is conducted in the manner proposed in this paper, customized exercise therapy can be provided for various diseases.

  • Any place where exercise is common, such as a club, sports hall, or school, is considered a place for teaching sports. When doing sports, a very safe environment for sports should be chosen. The athlete should consider the safety of sports facilities and equipment, and if there is a defect, he should refrain from exercising in these places. The safety of sports facilities is very effective in creating people's sports activities, with the benefits of staying away from physical harm, enjoying sports, and having mental peace. Everyone has the right to participate in sports and recreation and to ensure that they enjoy a safe environment. The ability to manage and solve issues that may arise plays the most critical role in creating a safe environment. The quality of construction materials used for the construction of sports facilities is of great importance. In this work, the resistance and water repellency of concrete constituents for the construction of sports buildings have been investigated by nanoscience. Nano-concrete material solves the main problem of concrete surfaces, i.e., the entry of water and humidity into the structure. It also gives it a self-cleaning ability with its water repellency. Nanoparticles are placed between pores and cover the cracks, which causes roughness in the surface structure of concrete. The high roughness of the surface of the coated concrete caused its super-hydrophobicity. In hydrophobic surfaces, the higher the contact angle, the more hydrophobic the surface will be. In order to investigate the hydrophobic properties, silica nanoparticles, silica nanoparticles, and fly ash were prepared on concrete, and their properties were analyzed.
