A surface panel method treating a boundary-value problem of the Dirichlet type is presented to design a three dimensional body with free surface corresponding to a prescribed pressure distribution. An integral equation is derived from Green's theorem, giving a relation between total potential of known strength and the unknown local flux. Upon discretization, a system of linear simultaneous equations is formed including free surface boundary condition and is solved for an assumed geometry. The pseudo local flux, present due to the incorrect positioning of the assumed geometry, plays a role f the geometry corrector, with which the new geometry is computed for the next iteration. Sample designs for submerged spheroids and Wigley hull and carried out to demonstrate the stable convergence, the effectiveness and the robustness of the method. For the calculation of the wave resistance, normal dipoles and Rankine sources are distributed on the body surface and Rankine sources on the free surface. The free surface boundary condition is linearized with respect to the oncoming flow. Four-points upwind finite difference scheme is used to compute the free surface boundary condition. A hyperboloidal panel is adopted to represent the hull surface, which can compensate the defects of the low-order panel method. The design of a 5500TEU container carrier is performed with respect to reduction of the wave resistance. To reduce the wave resistance, calculated pressure on the hull surface is modified to have the lower fluctuation, and is applied as a Dirichlet type dynamic boundary condition on the hull surface. The designed hull form is verified to have the lower wave resistance than the initial one not only by computation but by experiment.

A potential-based panel method has been developed to investigate the resistance characteristics of a high speed catamaran advancing on the free surface. Normal dipoles and sources are distributed on the body surface while sources are distributed on the free surface. Linearised free surface conditions are used in the present analysis. To avoid the instabilities due to the velocity difference between inner and outer flow of a high speed catamaran, Kutta condition has been applied at the stern. Model test has been carried out not only to validate the numerical results but to confirm the capabilities of a CWC(Circulating Water Channel). It is believed that we can obtain the qualitatively reasonable results in the CWC. Computed results are compared with those of experiments and Insel's experimental values. Since the Kutta condition is applied at the stern, stable solutions are obtained at the high speed range. The present method, using linearised free surface conditions at the high speed range, seems to be a useful tool in the hull form design of a high speed catamaran.

A potential-based panel method has been developed for numerical computation of wave resistance on a hybrid hydrofoil. Hybrid hydrofoil is composed of a main body, two struts and two hydrofoils. The main body, which is assumed to be an axisymmetric body for the present analysis, is normally used to support displacement of a body with its buoyancy. Normal dipoles and the sources are distributed on the body(main body, struts, hydrofoils) and the sources are distributed on the free surface. Linearized free surface and the radiation conditions are satisfied using the fourth order finite difference operator and the semi-linear pressure Kutta condition is used for the numerical computation of the hydrofoils. Poisson type free surface condition has been used for the numerical computation and hyperboloidal panel method has been used for better numerical accuracy. To verify this numeric method, model tests are performed in circulation water channel. From the comparison of experimental results with numeric ones, the present method can be used as a useful tool for the design of high speed vessels.

A total 64 strains of Escherichia coli including 38 strains of urinary tract infection and 26 strains from other clincal sources were studied for several properties related to the virulence markers of organisms. Urinary isolates(76.3%) showed higher frequency of mannose resistant hemagglutination(MRHA) wi th human erythrocytes(A type, $Rh^+$) than the strains of control group isolated from other sources(34.6%). Seventeen strains(44.4%) of urinary isolates and 2 strains(7.7%) of control group showed hemolysis on blood agar plate. There was no significant difference in MIC's of 23 drugs between both groups of urinary isolates and control group. But they showed high frequency of resistance to ampicillin, carbenicillin, piperacillin, kanamycin, and trimethoprim, but were very susceptible to cefotaxime, moxalactam, ceftizidime, imipenem, and norfloxacine. Fourteen strains(36.8%) of urinary isolates and 10 strains(38.5%) of control group showed conjugally transferable resistance conferred to R plasmids. The urinary isolates carried one or more to 6(mean 3.4) plasmids of approximate molecular weight ranged 3.1 to 94 megadalton(Mdal) and strains of control group carried 2 to 5(mean 3.8) plasm ids of size ranged 3.6 to 130 Mdal. The size of conjugally transferable R plasmid identified with transconjugants ranged 32 to 130 Mdal.

The present work develops a method of evaluating thrust deduction and wake for different loads of the propeller using the concerted application of the theoretical tools and experimental techniques. It also shows the applicability of the new method to the design of optimum hull form. Firstly, the problem of hull-propeller interaction was analyzed in terms of inviscid as well as viscous components of the thrust deduction and wake. The wavemaking resistance of a hull and propeller were mathematically represented by sources on the hull surface and sink on the propeller plane, respectively. The strength of sink was determined by utilizing the radial distributions of propeller load and nominal wake. The resistance increment due to a propeller and the axial perturbation flow induced by the hull in the propeller plane were calculated. Especially, the inviscid component of the thrust deduction was calculated by subtraction the wavemaking resistance of a bare hull, the wavemaking resistance of a free-running propeller and the augmentation of propeller resistance due to hull action from the wavemaking resistance of the hull with a propeller. The viscous components of the thrust deduction and wake were estimated as functions of propeller load which were established by the propeller load varying test after deduction the calculated inviscid components. Secondly, an analysis method of powering performance was developed based on the potential theory and the propeller load varying test. The hybrid method estimates the thrust deduction, wake and propeller open-water efficiency for different propeller load. This method can be utilized in the analysis of powering performance for the propeller load variation such as the added resistance due to hull surface roughness, the added resistance due to wind, etc. Finally, the hybrid method was applied to the optimum design of hull form. A series of afterbody shapes was obtained by systematically varying the waterplane and section shapes of a parent afterbody without changing the principal dimensions, block coefficient and prismatic coefficient. From the comparison of the predicted results such as wavemaking resistance, thrust deduction, wake and delivered power, an optimum hull form was obtained. The delivered power of the optimized hull form was reduced by 5.7% which was confirmed by model tests. Also the predicted delivered power by the hybrid method shows fairly good agreement with the test result. It is therefore considered that the new analysis method of powering performance can be utilized as a practical tool for the design of optimum hull form as for the analysis of powering performance for the propeller load variation in the preliminary design stage.

Two hundred and ninety-five strains of Peudomonas aeruginosa isolated from clinical sources were tested for drug resistance and demonstration of R plasmids by intraspecies conjugation system. Sixty strains were found highly resistant to two or more of drugs. The rate of resistant strains were 38.9% to kanamycin(km), 33.2% to streptomydn(sm), 22.7% to sulfisomidine(Sa), 14.2% to chloramphenicol(Cp), 13.8% to tetracycline(Tc), 3.0% to carbenicillin(Cb), and to gentamicin(Gm), respectively. But no strains was resistant to nalidixic acid and colistine. They were resistant to per milliliter to more than $400{\mu}g$ per ml. of Tc, $800{\mu}g$ per ml of Cp and of Sm, $6,400{\mu}g$ per ml. of Sa, $200{\mu}g$ per ml. of Cb, $100{\mu}g$ per ml. of Gm, and $25{\mu}g$ per ml. of colistine. Forty-three strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa could be transferred their resistance to Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2-70, 1005 rifampin resistant FP-auxotrophic mutant. Of sixty multiple resistant strains, forty-three(71.6%) demonstrated R plasmids; nineteen carried resistance to(Tc Cp Sm Sa), six to(Tc Cp Sm), three to(Tc Cp Sa), and Cp, five to(Tc Sm Sa), two to(Tc Sa), (Cp Sm) and Tc, and one to(Cp Sm Sa). Degree of resistance of recipients recieving R plasmids from donors were almost the same level of resistance as the donor in regardless of mating temperature at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$. Resistance to Tc, Sm, and Sa were transferred to a very few of recipient cells at five minutes after mating with donor and recipient cells but resistance to Cp were transferred to the majority of recipient cells. The transfer frequency of Tc, Cp, Sm, and Sa resistance from donors to recipients were from $1.0^{-1.4}\;to\;1.0^{-3.5}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ for 18 hours of incubation and were from $1.0^{-1.5}\;to\;1.0^{-3.5}$ at $37^{\circ}C$ for 18 hours of incubation.
Sclerotinia rot, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is a devastating disease that poses a serious threat to perilla production in Korea. Identifying effective sources of resistance offers long term prospects for improving management of this disease. Screening disease resistant genetic resources is important for development of disease-resistant, new cultivars and conduct related research. In the present study, perilla germplasm were screened in vitro against S. sclerotiorum using detached leaf method. Among 544 perilla accessions, two were highly resistant (IT226504, IT226533), five were resistant (IT226561, IT226532, IT226526, IT226441, and IT226589), five were moderately resistant (IT226525, IT226640, IT226568, IT220624, and IT178655), 16 were moderately susceptible, 31 were susceptible, and 485 were highly susceptible. The resistant accessions in this study could serve as resistance donor in the breeding of Sclerotinia rot resistance or subjected to selection procedure of varietal development for direct use by breeders, farmers, researchers, and end consumers.
Resistance training (RT) is associated with reduced risk of low grade inflammation related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The majority of the data studying cytokines and exercise comes from endurance exercise. In contrast, evidence establishing a relationship between RT and inflammation is more limited. This review focuses on the cytokine responses both following an acute bout, and after chronic RT. In addition, the effect of RT on low grade systemic inflammation such as individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes is reviewed. Cytokines are secreted proteins that influence the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of immune cells and other organ systems. Cytokines function as intracellular signals and almost all cells in the body either secrete them or have cytokine receptors. Thus, understanding cytokine role in a specific physiological situation such as a bout of RT can be exceedingly complex. The overall effect of long term RT appears to ameliorate inflammation, but the specific effects on the inflammatory cytokine, tumor necrosis factor alpha are not clear, requiring further research. Furthermore, it is critical to differentiate between chronically and acute Interleukin-6 levels and its sources. The intensity of the RT and the characteristics of the training protocol may exert singular cytokine responses and as a result different adaptations to exercise. More research is needed in the area of RT in healthy populations, specifically sorting out gender and age RT acute responses. More importantly, studies are needed in obese individuals who are at high risk of developing low grade systemic inflammatory related diseases. Assuring adherence to the RT program is essential to get the benefits after overcoming the first acute RT responses. Hence RT could be an effective way to prevent, and delay low grade systemic inflammatory related diseases.

This study was carried out to investigate the serotype, and antimicrobial susceptibility and analyze the plasmid profile for the 145 isolates of L. monocytogenes isolated from livestock products and these product processing plants in Gyeongnam, Korea. All of L. monocytogenes strains belonged to serotype 1/2b (57.9%), 1/2a (20.0%), 4b (11.4%), 1/2c, 3b, 4c (each 2.9%) and 4d (0.7%). Serotype 1/2b, 1/2a, 4b from each source were found predominantly. Serotype 1/2b was predominantly higher than other serotype, and there was no significant difference between serotypes isolated from livestock products and product processing plants. 4b was major serotype isolated from raw milk and pork, and serotypes isolated from beef, chickens and slaughterhouse were 1/2b and 1/2a. The susceptibility of 145 strains of L. monocytogenes to 14 antibiotics commonly used in veterinary and human therapy was determined by disk diffusion method. All of L. monocytogenes strains were susceptible to amikacin, ampicillin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin and penicillin. L. monocytogenes strains had the highest resistance with colistin (100%), oxytetracycline (44.8%), tetracycline (43.4%) followed by erythromycin (2.8%), spectinomycin (1.4%) and streptomycin (0.7%). Tetracycline resistance, and serotype distribution of the isolates from sample sources were significantly different. Resistance to at least one antibiotic was observed in all of them and 7 different resistant profiles were recorded. The most common resistance pattern were CL-OTC-TC (colistin-oxytetracycline-tetracycline) (42.8%). Among all tested isolates, two different plasmid profiles were observed. Of the 97 examined strains, 14 (14.4%) contained either the 8 and 11 kb plasmid or the 11 kb.

The rapid advances in high power light sources and arrays as encountered in incandescent lamps have induced dramatic increases in die heat flux and power consumption at all levels of high power LED packaging. The lifetime of such devices and device arrays is determined by their temperature and thermal transients controlled by the powering and cooling, because they are usually operated under rough environmental conditions. The reliability of packaged electronics strongly depends on the die attach quality, because any void or a small delamination may cause instant temperature increase in the die, leading sooner or later to failure in the operation. Die attach materials have a key role in the thermal management of high power LED packages by providing the low thermal resistance between the heat generating LED chips and the heat dissipating heat slug. In this paper, thermal transient characteristics of die attach in high power LED package have been studied based on the thermal transient analysis using the evaluation of the structure function of the heat flow path. With high power LED packages fabricated by die attach materials such as Ag paste, solder paste and Au/Sn eutectic bonding, we have demonstrated characteristics such as cross-section analysis, shear test and visual inspection after shear test of die attach and how to detect die attach failures and to measure thermal resistance values of die attach in high power LED package. From the structure function oi the thermal transient characteristics, we could know the result that die attach quality of Au/Sn eutectic bonding presented the thermal resistance of about 3.5K/W. It was much better than those of Ag paste and solder paste presented the thermal resistance of about 11.5${\~}$14.2K/W and 4.4${\~}$4.6K/W, respectively.
