PURPOSE. A new light curing urethane dimethacrylate and a cold curing resin with simpler and faster laboratory procedures may have even improved flexural properties. This study investigated the 3-point flexural strengths and flexural moduli of two alternate base materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A cold curing resin (Weropress) and a light curing urethane dimethacrylate base material (Eclipse). Along with Eclipse and Weropress, a high impact resin (Lucitone199) and three conventional base materials (QC 20, Meliodent and Paladent 20) were tested. A 3-point bending test was used to determine the flexural strengths and flexural moduli. The mean displacement, maximum load, flexural modulus and flexural strength values and standard deviations for each group were analyzed by means of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (with mean difference significant at the 0.05 level). Post hoc analyses (Scheffe test) were carried out to determine the differences between the groups at a confidence level of 95%. RESULTS. Flexural strength, displacement and force maximum load values of Eclipse were significantly different from other base materials. Displacement values of QC 20 were significantly different from Lucitone 199 and Weropress. CONCLUSION. The flexural properties and simpler processing technique of Eclipse system presents an advantageous alternative to conventional base resins and Weropress offers another simple laboratory technique.

Two-photon stereolithography (TPS) is recognized as a useful process for the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures. Recently, the need for a two-photon curable resin with high strength increases as 3-D moicrostructures of high aspect ratio or large scale of several hundreds micrometers are required for applications of nano/micro devices in IT/BT. In this work, process parameters of TPS employing the SU-8 which is a representative two-photon curable resin with high strength have been studied for the precise fabrication of 3-D microstructures with high strength. The pre-baking and post-baking processes are studied and the parameter study of the SU-8 in TPS is conducted. Through this work, very small roughness of 12 nm and the minimum aspect ratio of ${\sim}1$ which provides a precise accumulation of layers could be obtained. Using the conditions studied in this work, some 3-D examples are fabricated.
Sealing treatment is a post-surface treatment of the plasma spray coating process to improve the corrosion resistance of the coating material. In this study, the effect of the sealing on the corrosion resistance and adhesive strength of the plasma spray-coated alumina coatings was analyzed. For sealing, an epoxy resin was applied to the surface of the coated specimen using a brush. The coated specimen was subjected to a salt spray test for up to 48 hours and microstructural analysis revealed that corrosion in the coating layer/base material interface was suppressed due to the resin sealing. Measurement of the adhesive strength of the specimens subjected to the salt spray test indicated that the adhesive strength of the sealed specimens remained higher than that of the unsealed specimens. In conclusion, the resin sealing treatment for the plasma spray-coated alumina coatings is an effective method for suppressing corrosion in the coating layer/base material interface and maintaining high adhesive strength.

The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage at the interface of cast post and tooth according to the type of cement. Forty anterior teeth with single root were used. The teeth were cut 2 mm coronal from the cementoeamel junction and chamfer finish line was made on 1 mm coronal from the cementoeamel junction. After the routine endodontic treatment, post space was prepared using #5.5 Parapost drill to a depth of 7 mm. After the pick up impression, core building was made to 3 mm of clinical crown with burnout wax, then post and core was cast with nonprecious metal. The teeth were divided into four groups of ten each. In Group I, post and core were cemented with Fleck's(Zinc phosphate cement) In Group II, post and core were cemented with Fuji I(Glass ionomer cement) In Group III, post and core were cemented with Superbond C & B(Composite resin cement) In Group IV, post and core were cemented with Panavia 21(Composite resin cement) All cemented teeth were stored in normal saline at $37^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and thermocycled from $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$ for 500 cycles with a dwell time of 30 seconds. After thermocycling, teeth were immersed in 1% Basic fuchsin dye for 48 hours. All 40 teeth were then embedded in the epoxy resin and cut buccolingually with a cutting instrument. The degree of penetration of dye at interface was graded on a scale of 0 to 4 using a stereomicroscope at 25 to 40 times magnification. Through the findings of this study, the following conclusion were obtained. 1. All the groups showed the microleakage at the interface of cast post core and tooth. 2. Group I showed the highest microleakage score among the groups with a significant difference(p<0.05). 3. Group II showed higher microleakage score than Group III and Group IV with a significant difference(p<0.05). 4. Group IV showed the lowest microleakage score but there were no significant difference with Group III(p>0.05).
PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the fracture resistances of zirconia, cast nickel-chromium alloy (Ni-Cr), and fiber-composite post systems under all-ceramic crowns in endodontically treated mandibular first premolars. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 36 extracted human mandibular premolars were selected, subjected to standard endodontic treatment, and divided into three groups (n=12) as follows: cast Ni-Cr post-and-core, one-piece custom-milled zirconia post-and-core, and prefabricated fiber-glass post with composite resin core. Each specimen had an all-ceramic crown with zirconia coping and was then loaded to failure using a universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min, at an angle of 45 degrees to the long axis of the roots. Fracture resistance and modes of failure were analyzed. The significance of the results was assessed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey honest significance difference (HSD) tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Fiber-glass posts with composite cores showed the highest fracture resistance values ($915.70{\pm}323N$), and the zirconia post system showed the lowest resistance ($435.34{\pm}220N$). The corresponding mean value for the Ni-Cr casting post and cores was reported as $780.59{\pm}270N$. The differences among the groups were statistically significant (P<.05) for the zirconia group, as tested by ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. CONCLUSION. The fracture resistance of zirconia post-and-core systems was found to be significantly lower than those of fiber-glass and cast Ni-Cr post systems. Moreover, catastrophic and non-restorable fractures were more prevalent in teeth restored by zirconia posts.
The difficulty of endodontic retreatment depends on various factors and it is affected by retention of post. In this experiment, root canal therapy was done in extracted human teeth and cut into 10mm length from the root apex, and then cemented by zinc phosphate cement, Vitremer$^{(R)}$(glass ionomer) luting cement and Panavia 21$^{(R)}$(resin cement). Post preparation was done by #4 Parapost drill at 6mm length and cement was inserted by lentulo spiral. After 24 hours, tensile bond strength, post removal time was measured after the ultrasonic application and the separation site was measured. The following results were obtained. 1. In measuring tensile bond strength, there is no statistical difference between zinc phosphate cement and Panavia 21$^{(R)}$, but Vitremer$^{(R)}$ showed lower value compared with those two cements. (p<0.001) 2. When the post removal time was measured after ultrasonic application, significant different value in order of Panavia 21$^{(R)}$, zinc phosphate cement and Vitremer$^{(R)}$ was shown. (p<0.001) 3. As a result of examining the separating site of each cement, all 16 of zinc phosphate cement group showed the fracture site between cement and post, Vitremer$^{(R)}$ was 13/16, and Panavia 2$^{(R)}$ was 8/16. In case of tooth restoration using Parapost, the use of Panavia 21 showed good retention property than Vitremer$^{(R)}$, but when retreatment is needed the difficulty of post removal will be increased.

A new class of deep UV Photoresist based on the principles of chemical amplification was developed. This photoresist consists of three basic elements: a copolymer, blocked tetrabromobisphenol-A as a dissolution inhibitor and a photosensitive onium salt as a photoacid generator. On irradiation followed by a post exposure bake, tert-butoxycarbonyloxy phenyl group is converted to phenol group. Thus the initially base insoluble resin is converted under UV irradiation to a base soluble resin which may be preferentially removed by dissolution. This new photoresist display high sensitivity, 10 $mJ/cm^{2}$.
Esthetic restoration techniques can be categorized into "Direct techniques" consist only of intraoral procedures and "Indirect techniques" include intraoral as well as extraoral laboratory steps. Those made extraorally exhibit generally enhanced esthetic potential and anatomy and better hardness and wear resistance, indirect esthetic restorations numerously applied in contemporary dentistry. Indirect restorative materials can be divided into two categories; composite resin-based materials and ceramic-based materials. These materials shows various were resistance, modulus of elasticity, repair postenital, chemical stability, and different laboratory procedures. In this session, benefit of indirect techinques, case selection of this kind of restorations, and material characteristics and fabrication produre of those materials will ber reviewed; Targis, Sculpture, Belleglass, and Post-curing of restorative composite resins in resin-based materials; Dicor, Empress, Cerec, Celay, and conventional firing porcelain in ceramic based materials.
In this paper, the buckling behavior of triaxially braided circular arch with monosymmetric open section subjected to three-point bending was studied experimentally and numerically. First, test specimens were manufactured using vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). Then the specimen was tested under three-point bending to determine the ultimate buckling strength. Before performing the numerical analysis, effective material properties of the braided composite were obtained through micro-meso scale analysis virtual testing validated with available test results. Then linear buckling analysis and geometrically non-linear post buckling analysis, established to simulate the test setup, were performed to study the buckling behavior of the composite frame. Analysis results were compared with experimentally obtained ones for verification. The effect of manufacturing defects of tow misalignment, irregular surface and resin rich region, and uncertainties during test setup were studied using numerical models. From the numerical analyses performed it was observed that both manufacturing defect and uncertainties had effect on the buckling behavior and strength.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate which FRC-posts were more distinguishable from core. Materials and Methods: Nine extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars with similar lengths (${\pm}0.5 mm$) and widths (${\pm}0.5 mm$) were endodontically treated and obturated. One specimen which the three roots were embedded in a cold mounting resin was made. 3 specimens were made by this method. Post spaces were prepared for the following post system: FRC $Postec^{(R)}$ Plus, MACRO-$LOCK^{TM}$ POST $ILLUSION^{TM}$$XRO^{(R)}$, $Snowpost^{(R)}$. After three different posts were placed in the roots of a specimen, each three specimens received a direct core build-up: $Luxacore^{(R)}$ Dual A3, $Luxacore^{(R)}$ Dual blue, $Filtek^{TM}$ Z350 A1E. Digital images were taken of the post and core with and without air-blowing. We asked to fifty dentists and fifty dental college students which post was more clearly discriminated from the core. Results: In surveys, when core was $Luxacore^{(R)}$ Dual blue, among three types of posts people more easily discriminated the $Snowpost^{(R)}$ from core. When core was $Luxacore^{(R)}$ Dual A3, among three types of posts people similarly more easily discriminated $Snowpost^{(R)}$ from core. When core was $Filtek^{TM}$ Z350 A1E, among three types of posts people more easily discriminated distinguished MACRO-$LOCK^{TM}$ POST $ILLUSION^{TM}$$XRO^{(R)}$ post from core. People more easily distinguished MACRO-$LOCK^{TM}$ POST $ILLUSION^{TM}$$XRO^{(R)}$ post from core when temperature was lowered by air-blowing. Conclusion: Ability to discriminate between FRC-post and core is different according to color contrast. MACRO-$LOCK^{TM}$ POST $ILLUSION^{TM}$$XRO^{(R)}$ posts are more discriminable when temperature is lowered by air-blowing.
