Analysis of the Inhibition Layer of Galvanized Dual-Phase Steels

  • The formation of the Fe-Al inhibition layer in hot-dip galvanizing is a confusing issue for a long time. This study presents a characterization result on the inhibition layer formed on C-Mn-Cr and C-Mn-Si dual-phase steels after a short time galvanizing. The samples were annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ for 60 s in $N_{2}$-10% $H_{2}$ atmosphere with a dew point of $-30^{\circ}C$, and were then galvanized in a bath containing 0.2 %Al. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed for characterization. The TEM electron diffraction shows that only $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ intermetallic phase was formed. No orientation relationship between the $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ phase and the steel substrate could be identified. Two peaks of Al 2p photoelectrons, one from metallic aluminum and the other from $Al^{3+}$ ions, were detected in the inhibition layer, indicating that the layer is in fact a mixture of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ and $Al_{2}O_{3}$. TEM/EDS analysis verifies the existence of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in the boundaries of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ grains. The nucleation of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$ and the reduction of the surface oxide probably proceeded concurrently on galvanizing, and the residual oxides prohibited the heteroepitaxial growth of $Fe_{2}Al_{5}$.

유기물 생흡착 현상에 관한 기초연구 (Characteristics of Carbon Source Biosorption)

  • Biosorption technology was used to remove hazardous materials from wastewater, herbicide, heavy metals, and radioactive compounds, based on binding capacities of various biological materials. Biosorption process can be explained by two steps; the first step is that target contaminants is in contact with microorganisms and the second is that the adsorbed target contaminants is infiltrated with inner cell through metabolically mediated or physico-chemical pathways of uptake. Until recently, no information is available to explain the definitive mechanism of biosorption. The purpose of this study is to evaluate biosorption capabilities of organic matters using activated sludge and to investigate affecting factors upon biosorption. Over 49% of organic matter could be removed by positive biosorption reaction under anoxic condition within 10 minutes. The biosorption capacities were constant at around 50 mg-COD/mg-MLSS for all batch experiments. As starvation time increased under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, biosorption capacity increased since higher stressed microorganisms by starvation was more brisk. Starvation stress of microorganisms was higher at aerobic condition than anaerobic one. As temperature increased or easily biodegradable carbon sources were used, biosorption capacities increased. Consequently, biosorption can be estimated by biological -adsorbed capability of the bacterial cell-wall and we can achieve the cost-effective and non -residual denitrification with applying biosorption to the bio-reduction of nitrate.

Hull-form optimization of KSUEZMAX to enhance resistance performance

  • This paper deploys optimization techniques to obtain the optimum hull form of KSUEZMAX at the conditions of full-load draft and design speed. The processes have been carried out using a RaPID-HOP program. The bow and the stern hull-forms are optimized separately without altering neither, and the resulting versions of the two are then combined. Objective functions are the minimum values of wave-making and viscous pressure resistance coefficients for the bow and stern. Parametric modification functions for the bow hull-form variation are SAC shape, section shape (U-V type, DLWL type), bulb shape (bulb height and size); and those for the stern are SAC and section shape (U-V type, DLWL type). WAVIS version 1.3 code is used for the potential and the viscous-flow solver. Prior to the optimization, a parametric study has been conducted to observe the effects of design parameters on the objective functions. SQP has been applied for the optimization algorithm. The model tests have been conducted at a towing tank to evaluate the resistance performance of the optimized hull-form. It has been noted that the optimized hull-form brings 2.4% and 6.8% reduction in total and residual resistance coefficients compared to those of the original hull-form. The propulsive efficiency increases by 2.0% and the delivered power is reduced 3.7%, whereas the propeller rotating speed increases slightly by 0.41 rpm.

배추 Lipoxygenase 의 특성 (Characteristics of Crude Lipoxygenase in Chinese Cabbages)

  • 김치를 제조하기 위해 배추를 절이는 과정에서 배추 중의 lipoxygenase를 측정하였다. 조효소액을 증가시킬수록 lipoxygenase의 활성이 증가하였고 최적 pH는 7.0이었다. Lipoxygenase를 억제하기 위하여 절임과 열처리를 사용하였다. 온도가 높아질수록 lipoxygenase는 억제되었고, $90^{\circ}C$에서 15분간 열처리를 한 경우 효소활성이 약 50%로 되었다. 13% 소금물에서 20시간 절임을 한 것과 열처리한 경우 효소의 저해효과는 유사한 결과를 나타내었다. 온도가 높을수록 열처리 시간이 길수록 효소의 불활성 속도가 빨라짐을 볼 수 있었다. D값은 $70,\;80,\;90^{\circ}C$에서 각각 42, 20, 14분이었다. 염화칼슘을 첨가한 상태에서 열처리한 경우 염화칼슘을 첨가하지 않은 경우에 비하여 lipoxygenase의 활성이 높게 나타났다.

  • An energy storage system is composed of lithium-ion batteries in modern applications. Batteries are regarded as storage devices for renewable and residual energy. The failure of batteries can cause the performance reduction and explosion of battery systems. High maintenance cost is essential when dealing with the problem of battery safety. Therefore an accurate health diagnosis is required to ensure the high reliability of battery systems. A battery pack is a combination of single cells in series and parallel connections. A battery pack has to consider various factors to assess battery health. Battery health involves conventional factors and additional factors, such as cell-to-cell imbalance. For large applications, state-of-health (SOH) can be inaccurate because of the lack of factors that indicate the state of the battery pack. In this study, six characterization factors are proposed for improving the SOH estimation of battery packs. The six proposed characterization factors can be regarded as health indicators (HIs). The six HIs are applied to the principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm. To reflect information regarding capacity, voltage, and temperature, the PCA algorithm extracts new degradation factors by using the six HIs. The new degradation factors are applied to a multiple regression model. Results show the advancement and improvement of SOH estimation.

우리나라 주요항만의 조위분석 (Analysis of Tidal Observations at Major Ports around Korean Coast)

  • 우리나라 연안의 12개 주요항만-인천, 군산, 목포, 대흑산도, 제주, 여수, 진해, 부산, 포항, 울산, 묵호, 속초항의 이용가능한 1979년까지의 장기조위관측 자료가 정비되어 철저한 분석이 수행되었다. 교통부 수로국이 제공한 주요항만의 매시간별 검조자료는 일연의 조위자료 편집체계를 이용하여 매시간별 관측시계열, 조위시계열 및 비조위시계열로 구성되어 해면연구를 위한 기초자료근거를 수립하였다. 첫 단계로 각 항만의 조위분석이 연별로 확장조화분석법에 의해 수행되어 판별가능한 분조들의 조화상수들이 제시되었으며 또한 각 항만의 해면연계, 해면빈도분포, 해면노정곡선이 착시되었으며 초기결과가 토의되었다. 본 연구는 교통부 수로국의 해면변화조사사업 및 건설부 국입지리원의 일등수준강 조정사업의 일환으로서 수행되었는데 해면변화 및 조석연구를 위한 기초자료를 제공하는데 기여할 것이다.

섬진강 하구역 잘피(Z. marina)서식지의 해양환경 특성 (Marine Environmental Characteristics of Seagrass Habitat in Seomjin River Estuary)

  • This study considered a seagrass habitat in order to analyze the characteristics of a marine environment of seagrass located in the Seomjin river estuary, through an analysis of the distribution of the water depth, field observation, and three-dimensional numerical experiments using an EFDC model. The seagrass habitat was usually distributed at D.L(-) 0.5~0.0 m, and was hardly seen in the intertidal zone higher than that range. The distribution of the water temperature was within the range of $7.0{\sim}23.2^{\circ}C$, and the seagrass was demonstrated to have a strong tolerance to changes in the water temperature. In addition, the salinity distribution was found to be 27.2~31.0 psu, with suspended solids of 32.1 mg/L, which were higher than the previous research results (Huh et al., 1998), implying that there may be a reduction in the amount of deposits caused by the suspended solids. As for the sedimentary facies, they were comprised of 62.7% sand, 19.1% silt, and 18.2% clay, indicating that the arenaceous was superior and the sedimentary facies were similar to that of Dadae Bay. According to a numerical experiment, the maximum tidal current was 75 cm/s, while the tidal residual current was 10 cm/s, confirming that it sufficiently adapted to strong tidal currents. The erosion and deposition are predicted to be less than 1.0 cm/year. Thus, it is judged that the resuspension of sediments due to tidal currents and the changes in sedimentary facies are insignificant.

실리콘 광도파로, 미소거물 및 접촉식 정 전구동기가 집적된 광스위치 (An Optical Microswitch Integrated with Silicon Waveguides, Micromirrors, and Electrostatic Touch-Down Beam Actuators)

  • We present an integrated optical microswitch, composed of silicon waveguides, gold-coaled silicon micromirrors, and electrostatic contact actuators, for applications to the optical signal transceivers. For a low switching voltage, we modify the conventional curled electrode microactuator into a electrostatic microactuator with touch-down beams. We fabricate the silicon waveguides and the electrostatically actuated micromirrors using the ICP etching process of SOI wafers. We observe the single mode wave propagation through the silicon waveguide with the measured micromirror loss of $4.18\pm0.25dB$. We analyze major source of the micromirror loss, thereby presenting guidelines for low-loss micromirror designs. From the fabricated microswitch, we measure the switching voltage of 31.74V at the resonant frequency of 6.89kHz. Compared to the conventional microactuator, the present contact microactuator achieves 77.4% reduction of the switching voltage. We also discuss a feasible method to reduce the switching voltage to 10V level by using the electrode insulation layers having the residual stress less than 30MPa.

실리콘 압저항 압력센서의 오프셋 및 온도 드리프트 개선 (The Improvement in Offset and Temperature Drift on Silicon Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor)

  • 이 논문은 압력센서의 압저항 소자 값에 영향을 미치는 실리론 박막의 잔류응력과 4개 저항의 특성 차에 의해 발생하는 오프셋과 온도 드리프트 특성을 보상하기 위하여 2중 브리지구조의 압력센서에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 압력 변화에 무관한 브리지회로의 각 저항 소자를 압력 변화를 감지하는 브리지회로의 각 저항 소자 가까이 배치하여 각 브리지회로의 출력을 감산하므로 오프셋과 온도 드리프트를 소자내부에서 제거하는 것이다. 이 방법에 의해 오프셋과 온도 드리프트 성분의 약 95%가 제거되었다. 제작된 압력센서의 감도는 $0.9\;kgfcm^{-2}$ full-range에 대해서 $11.7\;mV/Vkg/cm^{-2}$ 이었다.

HSB600강 GMA 용접부에서 입열량과 용접후 열처리가 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (The effect of Heat input and PWHT on the microstructure and mechanical properties of HSB600 steel weldments)

  • 본 연구에서는 교량용 구조용 강재인 HSB600 강의 용접부에서 입열량 (1.5~3.6 kJ/mm)과 용접후 열처리(PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.)가 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향에 관해 연구하였다. HSB600 강재를 GMA용접을 실시하였다. 용접된 상태에서는 인장강도와 경도는 입열량이 증가할수록 저하되었으며 충격 흡수 에너지는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 낮은 입열량인 1.5 kJ/mm에서 침상형 페라이트가 가장 많이 생성되었다. 용접후 열처리를 통해 경도와 인장강도가 저하되었고, 용착금속의 충격흡수에너지가 증가되었다.
