  • Although Aster yomena has recently attracted attention for its potential anti-cancer, antimicrobial, and immune-boosting effects, there are concerns about residual pesticides because they are consumed in salad-like forms. This study investigated residual characteristics and human dietary risks of the imidazole fungicide prochloraz applied to the herbal medicine Aster yomena with different spray frequency and timing. Residual analysis of prochloraz and its three main metabolites (BTS44595, BTS44596, and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol) in Aster yomena samples was performed using the QuEChERS method and LC-MS/MS. Mean recovery rates of the fungicide and its metabolites were satisfactory in the range of 80.1 ± 1.2% to 108.2 ± 3.8%. The residual concentration of the fungicide calculated as the sum of prochloraz and its metabolites was the highest (4.14 mg·kg-1) in the Aster yomena sample applied three times at weekly intervals with the fungicide until immediately before harvest. The fungicide residue concentration in the Aster yomena was below the method-limit of quantification (MLOQ) when it was applied twice at the interval of 9 day until 21 days before harvest. The theoretical maximum daily intake of prochloraz, calculated based on the daily intake of Aster yomena, mean adult body weight, and the highest residue level analyzed in the this study, was safe at < 80% of the acceptable daily intake of the fungicide (0.01 mg-1·kg·bw-1·day). In conclusion, the triple application method with prochloraz at weekly intervals until the harvest day is recommended to produce safe Aster yomena from the fungicide residues and risks to humans.

  • The Purpose of this study was to establish the basic data on the mechanical properties of PCM in the high temperature range. To this end, an experiment was conducted on the characteristics of the residual compressive strength by temperature (100, 200, 400 and $600^{\circ}C$) with a fixed temperature heating. An after heating test was performed to investigate the properties after fire damage. The result showed that the residual compressive strength of PCM had a tendency to decrease, regardless of the type of polymer. It was also found that when the contents were low, the residual compressive strength started to greatly decrease from the high temperature range of $400^{\circ}C$, and that the specimen containing PAE showed a steeper slope than the specimen containing EVA. However, since little studies have been conducted on the mechanical properties of PCM with the high temperature, it is considered that, in addition to this study, basic studies must be preceded, including studies on the repairing methods.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the residue level of fluoroquinolones in hen's general eggs and specific eggs by microbiological assay method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. HPLC separation was carried out by reversed phase chromatography on a Symmetry $C_{18}$ (250${\times}$4.6 mm, $5{\mu}m$ particle size) with a phase composed of distilled water (containing 0.4% triethylamine and phosphoric acid) : Methanol (780 : 220, v/v), pumped isocratically at a flow rate of 1.0ml/min. A fluorescence detector was utilized with an excitation wavelength of 278nm and an emission wavelength of 456nm. The calibration curves were linear $({\gamma}^2{\geq}0.999)$ over a concentration range of $0.025{\sim}0.4{\mu}g/ml$. Average recoveries of the five fluoroquinolones in whole eggs at fortified levels of $0.05{\sim}0.2{\mu}g/g$ were ranged mean $78.1{\sim}91.7%$ and low coefficient of variation was less than 10% for all analysed samples. The limits of detection and limits of quantification for whole eggs were $1.2{\sim}6.0ng/g$ and $2.3{\sim}9.1ng/g$, respectively. Only one hen's general eggfrom chicken farm in Incheon was detected with the residual fluoroquinolones (Microbiological assay method; 1 of 47 general eggs) ; the range of residual concentration enrofloxacin was 0.12ppm. Those in food stores were detected with the residual fluoroquinolones (Microbiological assay method; 4 of 88 general eggs) ; the ranges of residual concentration enrofloxacin were $0.15{\sim}2.2 ppm$, ciprofloxacin $0.01{\sim}0.06ppm$, and hen's specific eggs (40) in food stores were not detected. For the microbiological assay method of fluoroquinolones in hen's eggs, as the results of comparative analysis, the disc diffusion method with E coli may be a little highly detected for the residual fluoroquinolones.

  • Arrayed ultrasonic sensors based on the piezoelectric thin film (lead-zirconate-titanate: Pb($Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_{3}$) having composite membrane structure are fabricated. Different thermal and elastic characteristics of each layer generate the residual stress during the high temperature deposition processes, accomplished diaphragm is consequently bowing. We present the membrane deflection effects originated from the residual stress on the resonant frequencies of the sensor chips. The resonant frequencies ($f_r$) measured of each sensor structures are located in the range of $87.6{\sim}111\;kHz$, these are larger $30{\sim}40\;kHz$ than the resultant frequencies of FEM. The primary factors of $f_r$ deviations from the ideal FEM results are the membrane deflections, and the influence of stiffness variations are not so large on that. Membrane deflections have the effect of total thickness increase which sensitively change the $f_r$ to the positive direction. Stress generations of the membrane are also numerically predicted for considering the effect of stiffness variations on the $f_r$.

  • Fatigue life evaluation of welded structures in a range of high cycles is one of the most difficult problems since extremely small plastic deformation and damage occur during the loading cycles. Moreover, it is very difficult to identify the strong non-linearities of welding, inducing residual stress. In this paper, numerical fatigue test method for welded structures was developed using continuum damage mechanics with inherent strain. Recently, continuum damage mechanics, which can simulate both crack initiation at the micro-scale level and crack propagation at the meso-scale level, has been adopted in the fracture related problem. In order to consider the residual stresses in the welded strictures, damage calculation in conjunction with welding, inducing inherent strain, was proposed. The numerical results obtained from the damage calculation were compared to experimental results.

  • SB41 material is welded automatically and is investigated some effects of the welding residual stress in the growth and propagation of fatigue crack, so as to study the fatigue behaviour in the welding residual stress field. The summarized results are as follows; 1) In case of the load amplitude is constant, as the stress ratio is changing to 0.1, 0.33 and 0.5 the propagation life is constant but the growth life decreases. And than, when maximum load or minimum load is constant as the stress ratio increases the growth life and propagation life. 2) It was shown that fatigue crack propagation ratio da/dN was almost constant regardless of the stress ratio change at constant load amplitude and that the larger stress ratio, the slower was the fatigue crack propagation ratio. 3) The opening ratio U is influenced by $K_max$ but it isn't only the function of $K_max$ because data range is very large. 4) The fatigue life of the specimens on tensile compressive residual stress field was decreased and increased respectably more than that of the base metal.

  • Contents of heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) in the sediments of Ulsan Bay were investigated by the sequential extraction methods that classifies heavy metals into five types of chemical forms: exchangeable, bound to carbonates, bound to Fe-Mn oxides, bound to organic matter and residual. The analytes were determined by using an ICP-MS. Total Cr concentrations in the sediments were in the range of 41.6-96.4, Cu 60.7-680, Zn 189-1954, Cd 33.1-83.4, and Pb 138-567 mg/kg. Results of sequential fractionation indicates that relatively high proportion $(\~44\%)$ of Cu is associated with organic matter A large proportion of Pb is associated with three types of chemical forms: Fe-Mn oxides, organic matter, and residual. There were significant correlation in concentrations between the exchangeable components and total organic carbons. The heavy metals in the residual phase cannot be easily released to the environment since these are bound to the crystal lattice. But, reducible and organic Phases cfn a significant amount of most heavy metals. Therefore. there is potential danger of a substantial amount of metals becoming chemically mobile with environmental changes.

  • Design rule of optical transmission link consisted of dispersion management (DM) controlling accumulated dispersion in total fiber length by precompensation and postcompensation, and optical phase conjugator (OPC) positioned at mid-way are proposed. DM schemes investigated in this paper are 2 types depending on the position of precompensation and postcompensation; bi-end type and concentration type. It is confirmed that effective residual dispersion ranges, as a design parameter of optical link, of transmission section from transmitter to OPC and transmission section from OPC to receiver are independence on the positions of dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) accomplishing precompensation and postcompensation, if both DCF position is symmetry with respect to OPC.

  • Microbial phytases are enzymes with biotechnological interest for the feed industry. In this article, the effect of spray-drying conditions on the stability and activity of extracellular phytase produced by R. microsporus var. microsporus biofilm is described. The phytase was spray-dried in the presence of starch, corn meal (> $150{\mu}m$), soy bean meal (SB), corn meal (< $150{\mu}m$) (CM), and maltodextrin as drying adjuvants. The residual enzyme activity after drying ranged from 10.7% to 60.4%, with SB and CM standing out as stabilizing agents. Water concentration and residual enzyme activity were determined in obtained powders as a function of the drying condition. When exposed to different pH values, the SB and CM products were stable, with residual activity above 50% in the pH range from 4.5 to 8.5 for 60 min. The use of CM as drying adjuvant promoted the best retention of enzymatic activity compared with SB. Spray drying of the R. microsporus var. microsporus phytase using different drying adjuvants showed interesting results, being quite feasible with regards their biotechnological applications, especially for poultry diets.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the tail behavior of the life distribution which exhibits an increasing failure rate or other positive aging effects after a certain time point. Methods: We characterize the tail behavior of the life distribution with regard to certain reliability measures such as failure rate, mean residual life and reliability function and derive several stochastic properties regarding such life distributions. Also, utilizing an L-statistic and its asymptotic normality, we propose new nonparametric testing procedures which verify if the life distribution has an increasing tail failure rate. Results: We propose the IFR-Tail (Increasing Failure Rate in Tail), DMRL-Tail (Decreasing Mean Residual Life in Tail) and NBU-Tail (New Better than Used in Tail) classes, all of which represent the tail behavior of the life distribution. And we discuss some stochastic properties of these proposed classes. Also, we develop a new nonparametric test procedure for detecting the IFR-Tail class and discuss its relative efficiency to explore the power of the test. Conclusion: The results of our research could be utilized in the study of wide range of applications including the maintenance and warranty policy of the second-hand system.
