The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of space utilization and the problems that follows after converting in a new developmental residential area. This study used the content-analysis method and analysis was made on the floor plans for 95 different conversion cases. Above all, 190 unit plans (the unit plans for conversion before and after) were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows; 1) There were 8 types of conversion according to such usages as residential, commercial and residential-commercial buildings. 2) In the case of conversions, from residential to commercial, there was a tendency each floor was integrated to exclusive use for commercial or commercial with small portions of residential usage. And in the case of conversions from commercial to residential, there was a tendency that all space of each floor were changed to exclusive usages for residential purposes. 3) In case of usage conversion from commercial to residential, there were constraints for balcony installation, because of its original lot-structure and building equipments. Also, when the basement was converted for residential purpose, there was no possibility for an extra lighting or ways to ventilate the area.

The form of the furniture developed variously according to the flow of the time. The Soban used in the modern living space is used as a decoration. but the furniture has to be used according to the form of the modern life and residential space. The furniture is the medium interacting with the surrounding environment in the residential space. I reconstruct the splendid fanciness of the pattern of the Haejuban and nature of structure and apply to the table design. The table gave the change of the form in order to be suitable for the residential space. and it raised the efficiency of the convenient of the custody and space utilization.

Lately construction companies are differentiating the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes to satisfy the needs of residents by providing underground parking area and variety of outdoor community spaces. Building walking networks through residential unit area, the major passage area and the entrance area of the complexes is very important factor to increase the use of the outdoor environment in the complexes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics and the elements for the planning of exterior pedestrian spaces carefully through the analysis of current large-scale apartment complexes. In this study, the utilization of space, the connectivity to other spaces and the application of Universal design were evaluated through site visits in 5 large-scale apartment complexes. As a result, the utilization of space is well applied in the most of complexes especially in residential unit area. The connectivity to other spaces has low application compared to the others. Universal design is also well applied except sub criteria for the blind in most of complexes. This study will be able to help in providing better exterior pedestrian environment for residents in apartment complexes.

It seems that outdoor-space has been properly neither planned nor used in the Mixed-Use Dwellings. The purpose of this research is to analyze the present condition and problems of outdoor-space utilization in the Mixed-Use Dwellings to find the application and the correlativity between outdoor-space types and forming factors. The results are as follows; 1) Entire samples of outdoor-space are classified into 6 groups by the road and site jointing type and the building layout type. 2) There are 5 prime factors forming and utilizing outdoor-space, which are the hierarchy of the road, the way of parking area utilization, the types of business in the commercial part, combining type of two uses which are residential and commercial, and the type of access to each part of them. 3) Amongst the factors, the way of parking area utilization, combining type, and the type of access are greatly related to the type of outdoor-space in the Mixed-Use Dwellings.

The purpose of this study is to present the direction of the plan to transform the residential complex into a space that can provide an open residential environment that can lead to social communication and exchange without being closed to the urban residential environment, especially in the apartment complex environment, which is becoming more dense. As a result of the Openness analysis of the 'Codan Shinonome Canal Court', the overall accessibility was good in terms of space utilization, and the openness was low in terms of the spatial composition, which is a physical environment due to the dense block type. When looking at the overall openness of the Codan Sinonome complex in terms of analysis by block, the corrected openness index (C.O.I) for all six blocks was 0.245, the corrected accessibility index (C.A.I) was 1.447 and the openness composite index (O.C.I) was assessed at 1.692. This was due to the formation of high-density block-type urban dwellings and the introduction of S-shaped streets and the layout of low-rise urban support facilities and commercial facilities. The Codan Sinonome Canal Court, which is considered an "open city residence," quantitatively confirmed that it embodies macro-space structure and human-scale space environment even in high-precision environments.

This study aimed at acknowledging characteristics of space usage and suggesting orientation of space planning and furniture designing that meet various residents' demands correlating with residential area, furniture and family members by doing fact finding of volume of the furniture in medium/small sized apartment. The contents of the study are "experience of functional remodeling," "a number of bedrooms correlating with a number of family" and "furniture arrangement of each space and characteristics of space utilization" based on forty six cases. Followings are results of the study. 1) It was acknowledged that the function of space relating to family members largely depends on furniture arrangement correlating with age of children. It is needed that flexible planning of residential area to meets growing children and various family demands. 2) Functional remodeling requires furniture rearrangement attended with the remodeling. Thus, it is required that ideas in more simple and efficient furniture designing and consideration of construction environment embracing that ideas. 3) It can be acknowledged that the most demanding matter to enjoy satisfied and comfortable life in residential area is the matter of storage area. It is also understandable that the matter can be worse by time going by and the change of living pattern. Therefore, it is required that the consideration of enough storage area compatible with its function of the room and the planning of built-in furniture for storage.

It suggests a closet design for infants in consideration of space utilization, furniture arrangement, and goods storage by integrating a baby's closet and toy chest, which was used for storage of baby's toys and play instrument. For this, it conducted and analyzed data research on the infants' toy chests in the domestic and overseas market and based on such approach, the colors that helped development of infants' cognition and emotion were selected while suggesting familiar animal characters for infants. Without considering separate arrangement of furniture and toy chest within limited space, it allowed space utilization and provided enough storing space. Also, the attached ball casters enabled easy carry of the closet and with this function, it helps infants arrange and store goods by themselves so that making them feel a sense of accomplishment. For effective spatial utilization as well as security of its genuine storage function, the closet and toy chest were combined in this study. Thus, it is believed that development of such multifunctional furniture will suggest the direction of researches on domestic furniture development that are conducted to maximize utilization of residential space for the people living today.

Recently, the studio which is urban housing form is rapidly growing up by new residential space according to increasing 1~2 person households form because of Modern members who have changing patterns of life and diversification of social values. The resident of the studio who lives or uses the space for a work such as students, office worker and soho-jok has various characters by a society nature changes and a regional peculiarity. The studio form and function is getting change according to variety trend changes and their life styles. The role and use of residential space also have variety such as the resident who lives in the studio. This study is to find the space utilization for them and reasonable housing solution in that structure, furniture and Wall Storage System of existing studio which is based on the common life patterns. The study's purpose is to propose the furniture design of changeable Wall Storage System according to the analysis.

The purpose of this study was to present a guideline for the construction of children park that can create a quality of dwelling and be easily approached and utilized by residents. In order to present a direction of planning, the investigator examined the actual state of children park in low-rise house residential area, and analyzed its general characteristics. And the discriminative characteristics according to the standpoints of planning of children park. The analytic standpoints were classified into the size and disposition of park, the nature of adjacent street and the utilization of park, and the satisfaction and requirement for the internal space of park. The guideline of planning of children park are as follow: (1) The disposition and size of children park: the children park must be disposed convenient use of all the residents. (2) The environment around including approaching streets and facilities around: residents' recognition and access in their everyday life must be considered in relation to the neighborhood streets and surrounding facilities. (3) The composition and utilization of internal space: the internal space must support all the activities of users, and reflect users' requirements in order to induce them to use it continuously.

The purpose of this study is to develop an underground Building. Population tends to concentrate in large cities. In result, the cities lacks housings. Underground space may be a attractive space by being able to gain alternative energy and get a cheap site, protect environment at the same time. The earth or ground is a useful medium for a long-term heat source and storage of it's heat. Also the underground space has the status of stabilization, the lower heating load and the similar heat transfer coefficient of the inside wall surface comparing to that of residential space. Utilization of underground space has many advantages to cope with lack of building sites and energy conservation, etc. As a result, it is expected to provide a useful information for the practical use of Underground building.
