Determinants of Economic Segregation and Spatial Distribution of Poverty

  • Purpose - While many related prior studies have focused on the segregation by race and ethnicity, the academic interest in the separation of residence by income and social class is gradually increasing. This study aims to not only investigate spatial pattern of economic segregation and poverty rate in South Korea, but also shed light on what affect residential distribution of the poor. Research design, data, and methodology - The unit of analysis is Si-Gun-Gu municipal level entities of South Korea. Most demographic, socioeconomic, and residential variables were derived from Korean Census Data in 2015. In order to examine spatial patterns of economic segregation and poverty rate in South Korea, a series of measurements and visualization was conducted through the Geo-Segregation Analyzer and ArcGIS programs. Determinants of economic segregation and local poverty rates were investigated by regression analyses using STATA. Results - The spatial patterns of areas with high poverty rates were extremely clustered, while the distribution of areas with high economic segregation was relatively evenly distributed. Demographic, residential, and local factors appeared to affect whether the poor live in particular area or spread evenly. Conclusions - The factors that raise the poverty rate result in lower level of economic segregation, while factors that reduce the poverty rate lead to severe level of economic segregation.

귀농자와 예비자의 정주여건 인식 비교 연구 (Return Farmer and Expectant Return Farmer of Rural House Residential Satisfaction Comparative Study)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the preferences for the physical features of return farmer housing. Housing problems of rural areas is one of the important factors that determine the quality of life in rural areas. Through these return farmer housing as it wants to improve the living environment of rural areas. The purpose of this study aims to find the required characteristics of the return farmer for rural activation. The survey was conducted to target the return farmer households living in housing and expectant return farmer living in the rural. The results of this study were as follows. First, expectant return farmer than return farmer are more importance to house outside(environmental) factors. Showed that environmental conditions are more important than housing conditions, expectant return farmer of residential satisfaction. Second, return farmer prefer ratio was higher House prices and sizes, expectant return farmer among the external factors such as environmental conditions is the distance to the workplace were very important. The results of this study can be a basis for effective strategies for future rural activation. More sustainable in the future, including the analysis of various parameters in progress by being linked to policy measures that will be provided. This study aims to be the foundation of sustainable housing policies for return farmer households.

일부 저소득층 도시노인과 농촌노인의 영양소 섭취 및 관련변인 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study of Nutrient Intakes and Factors to Influence on Nutrient Intake between Low-income Elderly Living in Urban and Rural Areas)

  • This study was carried out to compare the nutrients intakes, factors to influence on nutrient intake and frequency of food group intake between the two gruops of elderly living in Yangcheon, Seoul(n=105) and in Yongin(n=159). The results obtained by cross-sectional survey using questionnaires were as follows. 1) The average age of the subjects was 71.9 and there was no significant difference in age and gender distribution according to the residential areas. 2) The intakes of energy, protein, Fe, vitamin A, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and vitamin C were significantly higher in the urban elderly than those of the rural elderly(p<0.05).3) The average daily intakes of energy, protein, Ca and Fe of the subjects were lower than those of the Korean RDAs in general and the rural elderly showed more severe deficiencies. 4) Individual nutrient intakes and food group intakes were related to the pocket money, number of different foods taken daily, education level, residential area, and the degree of exercise. These results suggested the needs of nutrition intervention for the low-income, rural elderly.

다층모형을 활용한 개인, 가구, 지역차원에서의 주거만족도에 관한 연구 - 서울시 공공임대주택 사례를 중심으로 - (Analysis on the Residential Satisfaction of Individual, Household and Area-Level Characteristics using Multi-Level Models - Focusing on Public Housing in Seoul -)

  • It is necessary to implement a wide range of housing welfare policies that citizens can experience in order to improve residents' the quality of life, as it emphasizes the balance of supply and management of public housing. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting residential satisfaction considering the three hierarchical levels of individual, household, and area. In the background of the study, the individuals' quality-of-life satisfaction determined not only by the individual but also by the various influencing environmental factors. This study targets 1,736 households, 3,239 persons in 464 areas in Seoul. The main research results are as follows. At the level one, there were influencing factors such as age(-), education level and income, and housing area per person, recipient of basic living(-), period(-) and RIR (at the level two). At the level three, west-south region(-) and social mix affect the complex of public housing. In consideration of living infrastructure, the closer to public transportation, public facilities, and medical facilities, the higher the satisfaction of public housing. The results of this analysis suggest that public support needs to focus on individual household members, but there is a need for ways to link it with the complex and the region.

청년·신혼부부의 주거선택요인에 관한 연구: 인천시를 중심으로 (Housing Choice Determinants of the Youth and Newlyweds Households: A Case Study of Incheon)

  • 본 연구는 인천시 주거실태조사 자료를 활용하여 인천시 청년·신혼부부의 주거선택결정요인을 분석하였다. 분석모형은 다항로짓모형을 이용하였으며, 변수는 주택특성, 주택시장특성, 주거환경특성으로 구분하여 인천시 유입, 유출, 지속거주 측면에서 주거선택요인을 도출하였다. 연구결과에 따른 시사점은 첫째, 인천시 지속거주를 위해서는 청년은 관리비 부담 완화, 신혼부부는 안정적인 거주를 위한 주택소유 및 질적 수준이 확보된 임대주택으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청년의 인천시 유입을 위해서는 임대료, 관리비, 이사비 등 주거비 지원과 치안/범죄, 소음수준, 의료시설 등의 주거환경 확보가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 신혼부부는 주택구입대출지원, 전세자금대출지원 등을 통한 주택소유를 위한 지원과 대기오염, 주차시설 등의 주거환경확보가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 청년은 높은 주거비부담 시 서울시나 경기도로의 주거이동확률이 높고, 신혼부부는 신규분양주택과 높은 주택구입 가능성을 위해 타지역으로 유출될 가능성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 인천시 청년·신혼부부가 주거선택시 중요하게 고려하는 요인으로는 청년은 주거비, 신혼부부는 주택구입 등으로 향후 청년·신혼부부를 위한 주거 및 인구유입정책 수립을 위한 방향으로 활용되기를 기대한다.

서울대도시권 청년 1인 및 신혼 가구의 소득수준별 주거입지 선택요인 (Residential Location Choice Factors by Income Level of Young One-person Households and Newlyweds in the Seoul Metropolitan Region)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 서울대도시권 거주 청년 1인 가구와 신혼 가구를 소득수준별로 구분하여, 주거입지 선택에 영향을 미치는 입지요인의 집단 간 차이를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 본 연구에서는 가구의 주거이동 및 입지선택 과정을 분석할 수 있는 방법론으로 조건부 로지스틱 회귀분석 모형을 적용하였고, 실증분석에 활용한 기초 자료는 '2016년 가구통행실태조사'의 표본조사 자료를 활용하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면, 첫째, 청년 1인 가구와 청년 신혼 가구 모두에서 소득수준별 주거입지 선택 영향요인에 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 청년 가구 중 저소득 집단은 가구의 경제적 여건을 고려하는 제한적 합리성에 기초한 주거입지 선택 행태를 나타냈다. 셋째, 소득수준이 유사할지라도 청년 1인 가구와 신혼 가구 간의 주거입지 선택 요인에 차이를 보였으며, 이는 생애주기 변화에 따른 결과라 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 결과는 서울대도시권 거주 청년 가구의 경제적 여건을 보완해 줄 수 있는 적절한 주거정책 마련, 그리고 연령 또는 소득뿐만 아니라 생애주기 단계의 변화를 반영하는 맞춤형 주거정책에 대한 검토가 필요함을 시사한다.

은퇴 후 농촌거주를 위한 주택연동형 연금보험 개발에 관한 기초연구 - 잠재 수요자의 보험가입조건 및 서비스 요구도 분석 (A Study on Development of Residential-linked Pension Insurance for Rural Living after Retirement - Decisive insuring factors and the service demand of potential consumers -)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the valid data about residential-linked pension insurance development. The development was a part of national housing projects, which was an incentive for rural living of retired people, in order to relieve residential issues of elderly and revitalize rural communities by residents moving from cities. The insuring intent, decisive insuring factors and the residential service demand degree of people preparing retirement were analyzed. Data was collected in October, 2007. 364 Sample Subjects lived in Seoul Metropolitan area. Firstly, more than 90% of respondents had intention to purchase a residential-linked pension insurance and about 50% of them necessarily desired receiving premium for moving in. This indicated that it could be developed as an insurance which helped to meet housing expenses by housing-linked system, and in the mean time, it met the original purpose of pension insurance as the pension benefit could be guaranteed for all the insurance subscribers. Secondly, the respondents, whose income and private assets were higher, were able to pay more for insurance compared to average. Therefore, It was necessary to regulate monthly insurance bill and the payment period according to asset states of insurance subscribers after establishing certain amount of total insurance payment. Thirdly, by and large, it indicated the tendency that the less they prepare for older age the later they wanted to move into the pension insurance residence. It was inferred that in the case of insufficient preparation for older age, people preferred preparing behind time by postponing move in to moving in early to enjoy retired life, due to uncertainties. lastly, the respondents understood the significance of health, medical treatment and emergency management service and these two services were preferred as essential provided services. Because of the necessity of developing residential-linked pension insurance was found to be positive, further research to find the real cost, directives for operation and institutional support for this type of pension insurance might be needed.

시설아동과 일반아동의 행복요인 차이 (Differences in Factors of Subjective Well-Being between Children who are raised at their own homes and those raised at the residential institutions)

  • 본 연구는 양육시설에 거주하고 있는 아동(시설아동)과 일반아동의 주관적 행복감에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 특히 가정에서 거주하고 있는 아동(일반아동)과 주관적 행복감을 비교하여 두 집단 간에 차이가 있는지 살펴보고, 아동의 주관적 행복감에 영향을 미치는 요인이 두 집단 간에 차이가 있는지 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 일반아동 자료는 한국아동의 삶의 질 자료 중 중학교 1학년 2,597명의 자료를 사용하였다. 시설아동의 자료는 전국의 236개의 아동양육시설 중에서 본 연구의 목적과 참여방법에 대한 설명을 듣고 조사참여에 동의한 총 141개 기관에 거주하고 있는 중학교 1학년 아동 246명을 통해 수집된 자료를 활용하였다. 본 연구의 첫 번째 연구문제, 아동의 주관적 행복에 영향을 미치는 요인들이 시설아동과 일반아동의 두 집단에서 서로 다른 수준을 보일 것인가를 확인하기 위해 잠재평균분석을 실시하였다. 두 번째 연구문제, 자기자신에 대한 만족, 가족에 대한 만족, 학교에 대한 만족, 지역사회에 대한 만족이 아동의 주관적 행복에 영향을 미치는 방식이 시설아동과 일반아동의 두 집단에서 차이를 보일 것인가를 확인하기 위해 구조방정식을 활용한 다집단 분석을 사용하였다. 그 결과, 아동의 주관적 행복감과 자신에 대한 만족, 학교에 대한 만족은 시설아동이나 일반아동의 두 집단 간 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 그러나 가정에 대한 만족은 일반아동이 더 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 지역사회에 대한 만족은 시설아동이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 아동의 주관적 행복감에 영향을 미치는 요인들 간의 경로가 두 집단 간에 차이가 있는지에 대해서는 주관적 행복감에 직접 이르는 경로 중 자신과 학교에 대한 만족이 주관적 행복감에 이르는 경로와 자기자신에 대한 만족에 이르는 2개의 경로 즉, 학교와 지역사회에 대한 만족이 자신에 대한 만족에 이르는 경로가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

공동주택 주거만족도의 체계적인 분류를 위한 이론적 연구 (A Study on Theoretical Approach for the Residential Satisfaction Index Based on the Apartment Housing)

  • The study aims to establish the systematic residential satisfaction index which reflected perception of high rise residents are demand on the Apartment housing. Apartment house is developed to reduce the housing shortage caused by urbanism after industrialization in Korea. It has increased constantly since the 1970s and has become the most common residential type of Korean city dwellers. It shows Korean dwelling pattern and culture. Furthermore, it can be an index of private wealth. The main purpose of the thesis is the highlight on systematic planning process for actual users' needs. In other words, city planners are eager to reflect each individual preference when he/she designs a house. More practical and accurate research in user's satisfaction of housing can be helpful to overcome limitations of city planner's personal preference which can't provide certain evidences. First, the study has carried out the survey of importance of design elements which were selected on the basis of the results of the POE, Residential Quality, Quality Of Life which were carried out for the same subject. Then, the data were analyzed by SPSS 12+ program package in terms of frequency, factor analysis and reliability analysis. The results reveals that the Residential Satisfaction Index of Apartment housing are consisted of 8 factors which had been sorted out in factor analysis which can be interpreted to be closely related to the Physical, Social psychological and General environment.

기성시가지 단독주택지의 주거환경 만족도와 거주이동 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Residential Satisfaction and Residential Choice: The Case of A Residential Area in the Built-up Area)

  • The regeneration of built-up areas is considered as one of the necessary measures for the effectiveness of urban growth management. In this vein, this study explores how to limit the number of people who leaves the built-up areas and to restore the area with the resident. For this, a residential area of the built-up area is analyzed in terms of why people in that area are moving out of the area and who fills in it after all. This study founds that narrow roads in a residential area and the changes in land use from residential purposes to commercial are major forces that push the people in the built-up area. In addition, the lack of welfare facilities, the pavement of roads, and pedestrian roads. education. crime. the lack of interaction between neighbors, and the quality of housing are all emerged contributing the loss of people in the built-up areas. It is recommended that all the factors here should be restored in an appropriate way. Another finding is that those who fill in the built-up area are largely over 50, self-employed, comparably wealthy, and having their own families. Hence, it is advised that the built-up area would be rearranged in order to attract those type of people in there.
