The WRAP-SALT (Water Rights Analysis Package-SALT) simulation includes computation of end-of-month reservoir storage concentrations and mean monthly reservoir outflow concentrations for each month of the simulation. The model computes reservoir storage loads and concentrations based on load balance accounting algorithms and computes concentrations of water released and withdrawn from a reservoir as a function of the volume-weighted mean concentration of the water stored in the reservoir in the current month or previous months. A load budget accounting of the various component load inflows and outflows entering and leaving a reservoir is performed. A time history of storage concentrations computed for previous months is maintained for use in the lag procedure. This study presents computational methods for routing salinity through reservoirs for incorporation into WRAP-SALT simulation routines and methods for determining values for the parameters of the routing methods.
In this study, several types of rainfall time distribution of the probabilistic rainfall amount have been applied to the Sihwa Lake, located in Gyounggi Province, Korea and their runoff characteristics, obtained by the Hec-Hms program, according to the rainfall distribution types, were compared and analysed. And then, the influences of the above rainfall distribution types of the highest water level of the reservoir, computed through the reservoir flood routing, were analysed. The tidal variation was considered, performing the flood routing and, in addition, the new program, called “IWSEA”, which can compute the reservoir water level, was developed. To conclude, when the Mononobe type of the rainfall distribution was used, the largest inflow flood discharge into the reservoir was performed and the highest reservoir water level was obtained when the Pilgrim-Cordery type of the rainfall distribution was applied.
This study hydrologically re-analysed the Muskingum channel routing method to represent it as a linear combination of the linear channel model considering only the translation and the linear reservoir model considering only the storage effect. The resulting model becomes a kind of instantaneous unit hydrograph, whose parameters are identical to those of the Muskingum model. That is, the outflow occurs after the routing interval ${\Delta}t$ or concentration time $T_c$, and among the total amount of inflow, the x portion is translated by the linear channel model and the remaining (1-x) portion is routed by the linear reservoir model with the storage coefficient $K_c$. The application result of both the Muskingum channel routing method and its corresponding instantaneous unit hydrograph to an imaginary channel showed that these two models are basically identical. This result was also assured by the application to the channel flood routing to the Kumnam and Gongju Station for the discharge from the Daechung Dam.

Flood routing is one of the most important engineering problems for the design of a spillway, and the procedures for the routing should be thoroughly understood by the engineers engaged in the planning of a spillway. There are many methods for the flood routing such as Muskingum, Steinberg, Puis, Holton, Goodrich, Rutter, Graves, Snyder, etc., which are being used in many countries. This article introduces the theory of the modified PuIs Method in detail which is exclusively being used in the Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Interior, U.S.A. Also, this article includes a routing example worked by the writter for the Ee-dong Reservoir of the Ki-ho Irrigation Association. in Kyong-gi Province.
Agricultural small dam reservoirs in Korea are vulnerable to flooding because of insufficient flood control capacity and deterioration such that reservoir water level is likely to rise rapidly and a large amount of water release quickly to downstream without flood warning. In this study, we performed hydrologic analysis to estimate design flood(200 years return period ${\times}1.2$) and also evaluated the effect of siphon spillway as a structural countermeasure for flood control and mitigation by applying reservoir routing to the Jipyeong reservoir, located in Sangju, Korea. The results show that the design flood was calculated at $284.3m^3/s$, and water level and water release decreased by 40cm and $91m^3/s$, respectively.
Hydraulic flood routing was performed for unsteady flow in a natural river using Preissmann scheme. A Log-Pearson Type-Ⅲ hydrograph is chosen arbitrarily as the upstream boundary condition and lateral inflow hydrographs for sensitivity analysis. For the application with an actual river system, upstream and lateral inflow hydrographs were estimated by the linear reservoir model and the Manning's equation was used as the downstream boundary condition. The unsteady flow model using the linear reservoir model as the inflow hydrographs was applied to Bochung stream basin and gives good results, and is approved to be used for the runoff prediction. As results of the sensitivity analysis, the proposed model may help to estimate the roughness coefficients when using the unsteady flow model with lateral inflow combined with the linear reservoir model.
The peak flood discharge at a downstream station and the flood travel time between a pair of dams due to a specific flood release from the upper reservoir are computed using a hydraulic river channel routing method. The study covered the whole large reservoir system in the Han River, Korea. The computed flood discharges and the travel times between dams were correlated with the duration and the magnitude of flood release rate at the upstream reservoir, and hence a multiple regression model is proposed for each river reach between a pair of dams. The peak flood discharge at a downstream location can be converted to the peak flood stage by a rating curve. Hence, the proposed regression model could be used to forecast the peak flood stage at a downstream location and the flood travel time between dams using the information on the flood travel time, release rate and duration from the upper dam.
This study has performed flood routing computations considering the upstream and intermediate dams in Han River using DAMBRK. Hypothetical reservoirs with variable dimensions are used to compare the validity of the reservoir routing methods, that are storage routing and dynamic routing. The flood events in September, 1990 and August, 1995 are used to verify the applicability of the model. The model performs the flood analysis more accurately considering multiple dam effects in Han River. The methodologies presented in this study will give a good contribution for basin-wide flood forecasting in Han River basin.

As a fundamental research to establish a safety operation plan for irrigation dams, this study presents hydrologic analysis conducted in Sungju Dam watershed based on various rainfall data. Especially those reservoirs without flood control feature are widely exposed to the risk of flooding, a safe and optimized operation program need to be improved against arbitrary flooding. In this study, reservoir routing program was developed and simulated for reservoir runoff estimation using WMS hydrology model. The model simulated the variations of reservoir elevation under the condition of open or closed emergency gate. In case of closed emergency gate, water surface elevation was given as 193.15 m, and this value exceeds the dam crest height by 1.65 m. When the emergency gate is open, the increment of water surface elevation is given as 192.01 m, and this value exceeds dam crest height by 0.57 m. As an alternative plan, dam height increase can be considered for flood control under the PMP (Probable Maximum Precipitation) condition. Since the dam size is relatively small compare to the watershed area, sound protection can be expected from the latter option rather than emergency gate installation.

In order to estimate release water from reservoirs located on ungaged watersheds, an algorithm was suggested based on hydrologic reservoir routing and real time calibrating watershed parameters. A prototype - simple computer program was developed to implement the algorithm with Genetic Algorithm technic. The program was applied to a mid-size reservoir and its ungauged watershed area using observed rainfall data, spillway gates operation data and reservoir water stage time series data under a existing storm event. The result shows that the algorithm and the prototype would be useful to simulate released water from reservoirs.
