We discuss the problem of resource reservation, such as bandwidth, for delay sensitive application in wireless networking environment. As multimedia application is becoming a critical role of the current mobile network, the resource reservation become very important to support the real-time service. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a new resource reservation protocol, called Split Reservation Protocol, in wireless network. The simulation results show that our proposed protocol outperforms an existing protocol called MPSVP in terms of network overhead.
In this paper we designed a high speed wireless multiple access protocol, which is suitable for future multimedia wireless LAN systems which support high quality video teleconferencing, telephony and graphic databases. In the proposed protocol, Slotted-ALOHA protocol is used for transmitting random data packets and the packet reservation multiple access(PRMA) protocol for transmitting periodic data packets. The use of minislot is introduced for the reservation scheme. In order to measure the performance characteristic of the proposed protocol, a simulator is designed using an object oriented programming language, C++, and an exhaustive simulation study is carried out. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed protocol and the existing PRMA protocol have almost the same delay characteristic when network traffic is low. However, the proposed protocol is superior to the PRMA protocol when traffic becomes higher. The proposed protocol and the results can be utilized for the design of the wireless access systems and future broadband wireless LANs.

In this paper, centralized access control and slot allocation algorithm is proposed for wireless networks. The proposed algorithm is characterized by the contention-based reservation. In order to reduce the collision probability of reservation request, the base station calculates and broadcasts the transmission probability of reservation requests, and the wireless terminal transmits its reservation request with the received transmission probability. The scheduler allocates the uplink data slots based on the successful reservation requests. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can provide high channel utilization, and furthermore, maintains constant delay performance in the heavy traffic environment.

The growing usage of multimedia communication applications with specific bandwidth and real-time delivery requirements has created the needs for quality of service(QoS). In response to the growing demand for an integrated services, the Reservation Protocol(RSVP) has been designed to exchange resource reservation among routers in the internet. RSVP protocol provides the quality of service for real-time applications but the network efficiency is reduced because of the limited bandwidth. In order to use network resources efficiently. We compare the resource efficiency of traditional reservation methods with that of the proposed method and evaluate the performance of the internet phone.
A combined random/reservation multiple access protocol is proposed which can provide services for packet transmission in mobile satellite systems between mobile statons, or between mobile stations and fixed stations. Random multiple access protocol and reservation multiple access protocol which are currently employed in most satellite communication systems have some strengthes and some weeknesses in according to the kind of user and traffic. In this paper, a combined random/reservation multiple access protocol with better characteristics is proposed. The models of the modified random access protocol and the proposed access protocol is setted and analyzed. The performance of the PDAMA protocol, the random access protocol and the proposed access protocol is compared using simulation. For small packet arrival rate, the performance of the proposed access protocol is close at that of the modified random access protocol, and better than that of the PDAMA protocol. As the packet arrival rate is increased, the modified random access protocol is saturated and unstable at 0.23, and the performance of the proposed access protocol is better than that of the PDAMA protocol.

In this paper, a conflict-avoided resource reservation scheme for UWB (Ultra Wide Band) WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) with D-MAC (Distributed Medium Access Control) is proposed. Since distributed characteristic of the WiMedia D-MAC supporting DRP (Distributed Reservation Protocol) scheme may cause lots of conflicts, overall performances of the WiMedia D-MAC can be deteriorated. In addition, once a DRP conflict occurs, only one of the DRP reservations involved in that DRP conflict maintains the reserved MASs, while the other DRP reservation must be terminated and DRP negotiations for them have to be re-started. Such DRP termination and renegotiation time delays due to the DRP conflicts can be a critical problem to the mobile devices transceiving real-time QoS traffic streams. Therefore, we propose a mechanism to avoid DRP conflicts by providing a kind of path diversity using relay transmission scheme and demonstrate its performance improvements via simulation results.
Due to the strict requirements of emerging applications, per-flow admission control is gaining increasing importance. One way to implement per-flow admission control is using an onpath resource reservation protocol, where the admission decision is made hop-by-hop after a new flow request arrives at the network boundary. The next-steps in signaling (NSIS) working group of the Internet engineering task force (IETF) is standardising such an on-path signaling protocol. One of the reservation methods considered by NSIS is reduced-state mode, which, suiting the differentiated service (DiffServ) concept, only allows per-class states in interior nodes of a domain. Although there are clear benefits of not dealing with per-flow states in interior nodes-like scalability and low complexity-, without per-flow states the handling of re-routed flows, e.g., after a failure, is a demanding and highly non-trivial task. To be applied in carrier-grade networks, the protocol needs to be resilient in this situation. In this article, we will explain the consequences of a route failover to resource reservation protocols: Severe congestion and incorrect admission decisions due to outdated reservation states. We will set requirements that handling solutions need to fulfill, and we propose extensions to reduced-state protocols accordingly. We show with a set of simulated scenarios that with the given solutions reduced-state protocols can handle re-routed flows practically as fast and robust as stateful protocols.
Five-phase reservation protocol (FPRP) is a contention-based media access control protocol for wireless ad hoc networks. FPRP uses a five-phase reservation process to establish slot assignments based on time division multiple access. It allows a node to reserve only one slot in an information frame. Once a node has reserved a slot, it will cease contending for other slots. As a result, there may be less contending nodes in the remaining slots, so the time slots in an information frame are not fully used by FPRP. To improve time slot utilization, this paper proposes an improved pseudo-Bayesian algorithm, based on which an improved contention access mechanism for FPRP is proposed, in which nodes are allowed to contend for more than one slot in a reservation frame according to a certain probability/priority. Simulation results indicate that the proposed mechanism performs better than FPRP in time slot utilization and hence the network throughput under various scenarios.
