A large number of natural products were worldwidely discovered from maine organisms. There are many secondary metabolites produced by maine organisms which showed very strong bio-activities and distinct bio-active mechanisms. In korea, about 350 secondary metabolites including more than 280 novel compounds have been isolated and structually defined. Many researches for developing products such as cosmetics, functional food materials, anti-fouling substances are being performed using distinct activities of marine organisms. Although the research on marine natural products has been remained at its initial or developing stage of drug development, significant progress has been made for isolation, structure determination and bioassay of secondary metabolites.

We review the mathematics education in Korea just after the 1595 Liberation and the first, second curriculum announced in 1955 and 1963, respectively. The 3rd curriculum announced in 1973 is influenced by “New Mathematics” in America. There were theoretical research about “New Mathematics”, but no experimental research about it in the school. So, there was not much effect of “New Mathematics” in mathematics education. After that we have the 4th, 5th and 6th curriculum which is improved by the result of experience in teaching. The 7th curriculum announced in 1997 emphasized practical mathematics. In this paper, we review the mathematics education and consider some problems in the 7th curriculum. We also consider some problems in mathematics textbook authorization under the 7th curriculum. To solve these problems, we suggest some facts. Especially, we need the philosophy about mathematics education and the enough knowledge about “Mathematics for Mathematics Teachers”.

e-navigation 전략은 선박의 출발항부터 도착항의 부두 접안에 이르는 전 과정의 안전과 보안을 위한 관련 서비스 및 해양환경 보호 증진을 위해 선박과 육상 관련 정보를 융합하여 통합된 수집, 교환, 표현 및 분석을 수행하는 체계를 말한다. 이는 기존의 선상 시스템과 육상 시스템에서의 유용한 정보들을 융합하여 통합시킴으로서 선박의 안전을 제공하고 나아 가서는 해상의 환경을 보호하기 위한 방법을 제공하기 위한 것이다. 이러한 e-navigation 전략의 기반 하에 기존 제공되는 선상에서의 IBS, 육상의 VTS 등 서비스 뿐 아니라, 원격 유지보수 서비스, 선내 통합 모니터링 서비스, 지능형 선박충돌방지 서비스, 지능형 연근해상 선박교통관제 서비스 등 다양한 통합화된 서비스 제공이 가능하다.

In Korea, consumer researches have been accomplished in the field of family economics or business management individually. The field of consumer studies progressed in both sides of quantity and quality since the establishment of the Korean Society of Consumer Studies(KSCS). The field of consumer studies is moving toward an uni-disciplinary stage from an interdisciplinary stage. In this time, it is very meaningful to review the research trend in consumer science and to look out the future prospect. This study reviewed and analyzed all of the papers published in Journal of Korean Home Economics Association from 1980 to 1999, Journal of Korean Home Management Association from 1984 to 1999 and Journal of Consumer Studies from 1990 to 1999.

As structures are higher, large-sized and more complex, we should detect the fire at the beginning and cope with it to reduce the loss of mankind and the physical damage due to fire. So we have investigated and developed various kinds of fire detection system, and do the efforts for minimizing the nonfire alarm. As there exists a close relationship between the technology development and the market potential, a comparison between the number of fires in special buildings and detection types were made to find out market potential based on the annual statistics on fire products inspection. In addition, we have discussed the causes of nonfire alarm and the fire detection system and prospect the research trend of the fire detection system.

The Co-based ribbons with different length were annealed in different magnetic field and GMI profiles were investigated in order to clarify the influence of ribbon size on GMI effect. The GMI ratio decreased with the decreasing in length and also decreased with increasing annealing field. While, the slope of GMI profiles inclined and the field range showing linearity was broadened. It shows prospect to low field sensor, especially for a navigation sensor.

This study investigated the prospect of using peanut shells as an alternative and green sound-absorbing material. The sound-absorption coefficients were determined after filling impedance tubes of 30, 60, and 90 mm in height with peanut shells. The sound-absorption ability increased as the filling height increased, showing noise reduction coefficient (NRCs) of 0.23, 0.43, and 0.54 for the 30-, 60-, and 90-mm heights, respectively. In addition, for sounds greater than 2,000 Hz, the average sound-absorption coefficient of peanut shells in the 60- and 90-mm heights was 0.9. In summary, peanut shells were found to have good sound-absorption properties comparable to or better than those of bamboo, sisal, jute, and wool, and this research suggests that peanut shells may be useful as an environmentally friendly sound-absorbing material.

About 80% of all pancreatic cancer patients suffer from a wasting syndrome defined as the cancer cachexia characterized by abnormally low weight, weakness, and loss of skeletal muscle mass, which directly impacts physical activity, quality of life and overall survival. Over the past decades, we have gained new insights into the underlying mechanism of cachexia associated with pancreatic cancer. The aim of this review was to explore recent findings about cancer cachexia pathophysiology and describe the current pharmacologic approach. Pancreatic cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome mediated by mechanical factors, inflammatory cytokines, neuropeptides, hormones and tumor-derived factors. The treatment of cancer cachexia remains controversial but is currently an active area of research. Several new targeted drugs are under investigation, and we hope to open a new prospect in the management of cancer cachexia in the future.

In this article, I reviewed current state of researches about mathematics instruction in Korea and sought ways and methodologies of future research. I analyzed articles which were published after year 2000 and were targeted to mathematical instruction itself. After collecting articles, I classified them according to research subject, method and analysis framework, purpose and focus, research perspective and keyword. Subsequently, I analyzed tendency of each research and theoretical framework of them. Based on upper results, I drew directivity of mathematics instruction research at two aspects. First, I found and suggested elements with which framework of mathematics instruction analysis should equip. Secondly, I explored main tasks of mathematics instruction research.

The current study aims at reviewing electronic records research trends published during the past 11 years, in order to shed light on what have been accomplished so far as well as what should be done to make progress in the field of archival science. A total of 57 research articles have been selected from 2 journals from archival science and 3 journals from library and information science. Selected articles are categorized into 8 subject areas. For each subject area, research trends are analysed. Where further research are needed are also identified. Implications from the analysis are addressed in terms of the need of empirical studies and sound research methodology as well as of the necessity of establishing consensus on what constitutes academic research in archival science.
