  • ETRI's Co-Pilot project is aimed at the development of an automated vehicle that cooperates with a driver and interacts with other vehicles on the road while obeying traffic rules without collisions. This paper presents a core block within the Co-Pilot system; the block is named "Co-Pilot agent" and consists of several main modules, such as road map generation, decision-making, and trajectory generation. The road map generation builds road map data to provide enhanced and detailed map data. The decision-making, designed to serve situation assessment and behavior planning, evaluates a collision risk of traffic situations and determines maneuvers to follow a global path as well as to avoid collisions. The trajectory generation generates a trajectory to achieve the given maneuver by the decision-making module. The system is implemented in an open-source robot operating system to provide a reusable, hardware-independent software platform; it is then tested on a closed road with other vehicles in several scenarios similar to real road environments to verify that it works properly for cooperative driving with a driver and automated driving.

  • Recently, in according as rapid improvement of telecommunication markets and wireless internet technology, Location- Based Services (LBS) have been discussed as new 'Killer' application. The purpose of LBS is to determine location of user through mobile handset and to offer location information service to end-user. This paper has suggested an efficient transmission scheme of maps data as one of the important content services relating to data transmission of LBS in mobile environment. The basic system consists of three parts : (1) GIS (Geographic Information System) Server for storing, processing and handling map data, (2) Middleware Server for transmitting of map data by request of client, and (3) Client for requesting map data to Server and displaying them on handset. Also, in order to transmit map data, we are to expand WKB (Well Known Binary) in conformance to Simple Feature Specification of OGC (Open GIS Consortium), and increase efficiency of data transmission by developing trans mission data format to be able to transmit lightweight data and considering data compression technology.

  • A knowledge map, a taxonomy of knowledge repositories, must have capabilities supporting and enhancing knowledge user's activity to search and select proper knowledge for problem-solving. Conventional knowledge maps, however, have been hierarchically categorized, and could not support such activity that must coincide with the user's cognitive process for knowledge utilization. This paper, therefore, aims to verify and develop a methodology to build a networked knowledge map that can support user's activity to search and retrieve proper knowledge based on the referential navigation between content-relevant knowledge. This paper deploys keywords as the semantic information between knowledge, because they can represent the overall contents of a given document, and because they can play the role of semantic information on the link between related documents. By aggregating links between documents, a document network can be formulated: a keyword-based networked knowledge map can be finally built. Domain expert-based validation test was also conducted on a networked knowledge map of 50 research papers, which confirmed the performance of the proposed methodology to be outstanding with respect to the precision and recall.

  • This paper presents an estimation method of small hydro power(SHP) potential using a SHP resource map. As a basic unit of SHP energy potential at a certain area, capacity and annual energy production of unit head was calculated from the catchment area given by a SHP resource map which was established by numerical hydrologic simulation so that a logical and relatively accurate potential estimation was possible comparing with the performance analysis model for SHP sites. The performance characteristics for Samok-Ri site were analyzed, using the SHP resource map and the developed model. It was found that the SHP resource map and the developed model is useful tool to estimate SHP potential.

  • Satellite captures images periodically and economically over the area wider than aerial photographs, and reconnaissance to unapproachable area. For these advantages, mapping using high resolution satellite image has high potentials of marketability and development. Therefore, utilization of satellite image in mapping and GIS is expected to be growing and research on describable feature, positional accuracy and, possible mapping scale is urgently needed. This research presented that Quick Bird orthoimage could be used to update digital map on a scale of 1:5,000. Quick Bird image was corrected geometrically based on ground control points. DEM was generated using height data of digital topographic map. The orthoimge was produced by digital differential rectification based on DEM which was generated using height data of digital topographic map(scale 1;5,000 and 1;1,000). When the digital topographic map was overlaid with the orthoimage, it was very easy to find changed region or new features builded after the map compiled.

  • DOCSIS 3.0 MAC protocol regulate CM and CMTS Channel transfer times through MAP message. Standards does not include the details of MAP Inter-arrival Time affecting the performance of MAC protocols for DOCSIS 3.0. In this paper, we evaluationed the performance of protocol follow in MAP Inter-arrival Time on DOCSIS 3.0. Based on the evaluation results, we propose the optimal MAP Inter-arrival Time. We found that the protocol shows best performance when the MAP Inter-arrival Time is 0.05sec. The research results can apply to performance element which important for the construction of DOCSIS 3.0 base cable networks.

  • The purpose of this research is to apply GIS(Geographic Information System) for the road simulation and find some benefits analysis for the design processes. The northern Jeju island was selected as a case study. The 1/5,000 digital map and GIS technique were used for optimum road design of the island based on Arc View software. Using this software we can get an overlay map by combination of hill shade map, slope map, aspect map, and building buffer map. Based on the overlay map, we designed the optimum road line and performed three dimensional simulation. From the results, we found that the developed three dimensional road simulation technique using GIS technique that was very useful tool to estimate the reasonable road design before the real road construction works.

  • A knowledge map is a network-typed diagram visualizing all kinds of knowledge that influences each other to solve a problem. A knowledge map determines the structure of knowledge categorizing and archiving by defining the relationship of referential navigation among knowledge. Since tremendous and increasing number of knowledge needs to be included in a knowledge map, a knowledge map must be organized automatically by considering the contents and relationships of knowledge. This paper suggests the concept and prototype of a semi-automated knowledge map which automatically maps new piece of knowledge onto a manually provided draft map. The prototype knowledge map is based on the recursive programming to make a knowledge map automatically determine the location of the newly-entered knowledge by considering the referential relationship between knowledge. The proposed knowledge enables the knowledge network to expand autonomously by automatically including and storing knowledge. Also, it can improve the accuracy and applicability of knowledge for problem-solving, because the relationship of referential navigation among knowledge can be efficiently and effectively expressed.

  • Rural landscape is an outcome of residents' life activity based on natural environment. Unlike city, rural residents make their own landscape over a period of time interacting with nature through cultivating and building houses and huts based on the background. Therefore, residents' role in rural area is of greater importance than city's and their recognition of landscape is a key factor to evaluate and manage rural landscape. Landscape Evaluation Map which utilizing Feeling Map method is a evaluation tool to [md out residents' recognition of landscape. In this tool, responses evaluate landscape around their living space and mark color dots which mean landscape grade on a map. This research is to examine effectiveness and applicability of the tool, Landscape Evaluation Map, which is recommended to estimate residents' evaluation of landscape. Through analyzing 7 cases of field application, the effectiveness of Landscape Evaluation Map has been verified and also demerits have been drawn. After modifying detailed techniques and developing resident education, Landscape evaluation map could be applied to [md out landscape resources rather than to evaluate whole rural landscape.

  • This study is to develop the technology and the ways of the practical use of the integrated digital map of and Electronical Navigational Chart(ENC) and Digital Terrain Map(DTM) for the effective and scientific based conservation, development and management. In this study, as preliminary studies to make eventual integrated maps, the concept of coastal areas are defined and the characteristics of digital maps developed by Korean Geography Institute and National Marine Investigation Institute are carefully analyzed. A test coastal map was developed based on the integrated digital map, a high resolution satellite image and Global Positioning System. Results from the edge matching analysis of coastal lines shows 8 meters difference in maximum. The problems, causes and solutions for the edge matched differences are described. Furthermore, the practical value of utilization, future use and various field of application are described based on the integrated digital map data base of coastal area.
