  • Usage of the rubber dam has been advocated by countless number of dentists. The advantages of the rubber dam such as the following are well-known 1. Moisture control. 2. Improved field of vision. 3. Ease of approach. 4. Soft tissue retraction and Injury prevention. 5. Prevention of aspiration of materials or instruments. 6. Shortened chair time. 7. Induction of nasal breathing during administration of $N_2O-O_2$ sedation. Recent reports indicate the rubber dam can protect the dental staffs from the infection when treating HBV or HIV positive patients. Also, improved moisture control and freeing of both hands allowed by the rubber dam makes it very useful when bonding orthodontic brackets. This case study presents the various clinical application of the rubber dam on patients visiting SNUDH dept. of pediatric dentistry to emphasize the importance of its use in pediatric dentistry.

열 스트레스에 의한 고무 오링의 가속수명시험에 관한 연구 (Study on Accelerated Life-time Test of O-ring Rubber by Thermal Stress)

  • The function of O-ring seals is to prevent leakage during the service life of the components in which they are installed. The life prediction of O-ring is very important at various industry fields. Generally, to evaluated the long-term performance of O-ring in severe environments has applied a life prediction technique based on accelerated life test (ALT). In this work, Accelerated thermal aging test(l20, 130, 140, $150^{\circ}C$) of O-ring was applied for life prediction of O-ring. The property changes after thermal aging test was measured using TGA, DSC, FT - IR, Video Microscope and SEM. Shape parameter and life prediction were obtained using MINITAB program.

  • An electrical fault is defined as any abnormal condition caused by reduction in the insulation strength between energized conduction parts and ground or any grounded part of an electrical system. Failure of solid insulation can be caused by excessive mechanical tension being applied on the insulation, harsh service environment, aging, and also by corona phenomena. The number of empty houses during normal working hours is rising. As a result, the number of uninspected electric installation for general use is increasing. To define the potential risk of the electric installation, measurement of leakage current has been getting considered, but because the measured leakage current value also contained leakage current by capacitance, the measured value can not be adapted to absolute reference to the installation. Therefore, in this paper, the correlation between the condition of electric installation and leakage current were analyzed.

공공의료기관의 경영성과 차이에 관한 분석 (The Study on the Difference of Management Performance in Public Health Care Institution)

  • This research analyzes on the difference of the management performance in public health care institution, especially between provincial medical center and national university hospital. The meaningful results of this study as follow. First of all, management performance was showed the loss in both of provincial medical center and national university hospital. but national university hospital is superior to provincial medical center in management performance. Secondly, It is noteworthy that social working expenses have influence on national university hospital. Finally, It shows that personnel expenses are the most important factor in the management performance in public health care institution. We hope that these results will be useful in the performance management of public health care institution.

유채 종실을 이용한 뿌리혹선충의 친환경적 방제 (Environmentally-friendly Control of Soil Nematode by Crashed-rape (Brassica naptus) seed)

  • 잘게 부순 유채씨를 토양에 처리하여 토양중의 선충을 친환경적으로 방제하고 오이의 수량을 높이고자 2007년부터 2009년까지 3년간 시험한 결과 토양에 유채종실의 시용량이 많을수록 처리 후 50일에 토양 중 cyanate의 량이 많은 것을 볼 수 있었는데 유채 200 kg/10a을 시용한 토양 중 thiocyanate의 량은 30 mg/kg, 400 kg/10a을 시용한 토양은 40 mg/kg 으로 조사되었다. 토양선충 밀도는 관행의 경우 토양 300 g당 463 마리로 피해유발 수준인 150마리보다 보다 훨씬 높은 밀도로 가시적인 피해가 나타났으나 유채를 처리한 모든 시험구 토양의 경우 토양 300 g당 13~17마리로 뿌리혹 선충의 피해는 나타나지 않았다. 수량은 유채 시 용량이 많을수록 6~15% 증수하는 경향이나 선충 피해 예방과 경제성을 고려할 때 10a당 200 kg를 시용하는 것이 좋을 것으로 사료되었다.

Location of Ruptured Bullae in Secondary Spontaneous Pneumothorax

  • Background: The surgical treatment of secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) can be complicated by fragile lung parenchyma. The preoperative prediction of air leakage could help prevent intraoperative lung injury during manipulation of the lung. Common sites of bulla development and ruptured bullae were investigated based on computed tomography (CT) and intraoperative findings. Methods: The study enrolled 208 patients with SSP who underwent air leak control through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). We retrospectively reviewed the sites of bulla development on preoperative CT and the rupture sites during VATS. Results: Of the 135 cases of right-sided SSP, the most common rupture site was the apical segment (31.9%), followed by the azygoesophageal recess (27.4%). Of the 75 cases on the left side, the most common rupture site was the apical segment (24.0%), followed by the anterior basal segment (17.3%). Conclusion: The azygoesophageal recess and parenchyma along the cardiac border were common sites of bulla development and rupture. Studies of respiratory lung motion to measure the pleural pressure at the lung surface could help to determine the relationship between cardiogenic and diaphragmatic movement and bulla formation or rupture.

Lymphangiographic Interventions to Manage Postoperative Chylothorax

  • Background: Postoperative chylothorax may be caused by iatrogenic injury of the collateral lymphatic ducts after thoracic surgery. Although traditional treatment could be considered in most cases, resolution may be slow. Radiological interventions have recently been developed to manage postoperative chylothorax. This study aimed to compare radiological interventions and conservative management in patients with postoperative chylothorax. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed periprocedural drainage time, length of hospital stay, and nil per os (NPO) duration in 7 patients who received radiological interventions (intervention group [IG]) and in 9 patients who received conservative management (non-intervention group [NG]). Results: The baseline characteristics of the patients in the IG and NG were comparable; however, the median drainage time and median length of hospital stay after detection of chylothorax were significantly shorter in the IG than in the NG (6 vs. 10 days, p=0.036 and 10 vs. 20 days, p=0.025, respectively). NPO duration after chylothorax detection and total drainage duration were somewhat shorter in the IG than in the NG (5 vs. 7 days and 8 vs. 14 days, respectively). Conclusion: This study showed that radiological interventions reduced the duration of drainage and the length of hospital stay, allowing an earlier return to normal life. To overcome several limitations of this study, a prospective, randomized controlled trial with a larger number of patients is recommended.

"사의경험방(四醫經驗方)"중 허임(許任) 경험방(經驗方)의 추출과 외치법(外治法) 분석 (A Study on the Externally Applicable Formula of Eminent Doctor Heo Im)

  • Objective : In this study, we try to identify the herbal formulated by Heo Im from Kyeongheombang(經驗方), and investigate its medical property. Method : Those articles referenced from Heo Im's herbal formulas in "Sauikyeongheombang(四醫經驗方)" were extracted and results were quantitatively analyzed. From extracted empirical formulas, those categorized as externally applicable formulas were grouped by several standards and their medical significance was analyzed. Results and Conclusions : 85 and 66 articles were designated to be referred from Heo(許) in "Sauikyeongheombang" and "Uibanghapbu(醫方合部)" in each category, and 263 and 155 were identified to be Heo Im formulas, respectively. Externally applicable formulas in Heo Im's empirical recipes have following characteristics. First, various methods were used by Heo Im. Second, Heo Im's empirical formulas suggest useful clinical information maximizing therapeutic effect, which is of much value, originated from his practical experiences as a clinician. Third, Heo Im's therapy favorably succeeds the tradition of Hyangyak-medicine and Empirical -medicine. From this information, Heo Im is thought to have had rich insight and experience, not only in acupuncture but also in the prescription of herbal formulas at those days.

공동주택 엘리베이터의 전원품질 보상 장비 및 설치에 관한 고찰 (The research of Power Quality compensation equipment and installation for elevator equipment of the apartment house)

  • 엘리베이터는 국내의 빠른 성장과 함께 급속도로 보급되고 있는 수직 형 교통수단으로 국민 대다수가 이용하고 있다. 엘리베이터의 빠른 보급과 함께 여러 가지 원인에 의해 엘리베이터에 갇히는 사고로 인하여 승객의 불안감을 유발시킬 수 있는 부분이 많이 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 공동주택 엘리베이터에서 이런 갇힘 및 오동작 등을 발생 시킬 수 있는 Surge, Sag, Interruption, Noise(Harmonic) 등의 유입에 대한 대책으로 엘리베이터 설비에 어떤 보상 및 대책 장비들이 설치되어 있고 그 사양 및 현장 설치 시설에 대해 조사 분석 하였다. 조사한 장소에서 대부분이 서지 보호 장치, 노이즈 필터, AC Reactor의 설비 설치가 미비하였다. 조사된 자료는 공동 주택 엘리베이터의 전기적 장해원인 분석 및 대책을 제시하는데 자료로 이용될 것이다.
