  • The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated teaching model that integrates mathematics and ethics with social justice theme centric approach. To solve the research problems, the investigator conducted literature studies on the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum, 2015 revised mathematics 3rd to 6th grade textbooks, and the 2015 revised ethics curriculum.. Based on the results of analysis, the mathematics and ethics integrated model for social justice was devised by using the three axes of mathematics subject, ethics subject, and social justice. The integrated class of mathematics and ethics for social justice consists of the steps of problem recognition (ME 1), analysis (ME 2), discussion (ME 3), inquiry and practice (ME 4), and it can be implemented in a total of 27 ways. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the integrated model, two classes of sixth grade were selected as experimental and comparative classes. As a result of the study, the integrated class of mathematics and ethics can be used as a tool to improve the value perception of mathematics, However, it should be conducted with full consideration of students' mathematical tendencies in advance. Also, it can improve students' social consciousness. However, practice and experience-oriented classes are effective to overcome 'reserved agency' problem. Finally, it can improve students' perception of integrated classes and their creative thinking and critical thinking skills.

  • This study presents how the engineering ethics instructional modules have been developed based on Korean culture and how they are implemented into the existing engineering curricula at Sungkyunkwan University. The engineering ethics instructional modules were designed to be taught by engineering faculty members who did not have any teaching experience in ethics. As a result, it was determined that the engineering ethics instructional modules should include a detailed instructor lesson plan and all supporting resources such as slides (Power Point base), and handouts, or assessment units (pre- and post-test). Two 75 minute modules developed in this study consist of the diverse instructional activities for various student group sizes. In order to improve students' interests and classroom attention, various visual and audio resources such as famous movies, cartoons, and poems were included in the instructional resources. In addition, a number of case studies which might happen in the students' daily lives were chosen. The resulting ethical module No. 1 has been instructed in the existing engineering classes during the 1st semester in 2007. Overall, the students reported positive impressions of the modules and the faculty members also reported favorable perceptions of the modules. Also, team based activities encouraged students to participate in constructing the event trees, which are a basic analysis tool for ethics case studies. The results of this study will provide a guideline of implementing engineering ethics into the engineering curricula to other engineering programs and schools.

  • We aimed to find out how teaching ethics and empathy affect the perception of children's rights with 297 pre-service early childhood teachers enrolled in the Department of Early Childhood Education at universities located in Busan. Through this, the purpose of this study was to present basic data for the development of a character development program for a high-quality early childhood teacher training institution. We derived the following research results. First, as a result of examining the degree of recognition of pre-service early childhood teachers' teaching ethics, empathy, and awareness of children's rights, the average value was high in the order of teaching ethics, awareness of children's rights, and empathy. Second, there was a positive correlation between pre-service early childhood teachers' empathy ability, teaching ethics and awareness of children's rights, and empathy ability and awareness of children's rights. Third, as a result of examining the relative effects of teaching ethics and empathy of pre-service early childhood teachers on the recognition of children's rights, social ethics was found to be the strongest predictor among teaching ethics. In this study, we identified that teaching ethics and empathy are effective in various approaches to promote awareness of children's rights in pre-service early childhood teachers. And the results of this study provides the basic data for the character development of desirable teachers that pre-service early childhood teachers should have.

  • Recently, as the importance of the information communication ethics education has increased, the research about new instructional method or contents have been progressed actively. On the other hand, due to the advance of e-learning technology, instead of teacher-centered instruction, the development of learning contents and learning method for satisfying students' requirements is proceeded actively. In this paper, in order to increase the learning effect for information communication ethics education for primary school students, we propose a new way to design an instruction which considers the characteristics and the requirements of students. We decompose instructional design features into 4 components such as goal, model, contents, and media, and then we pose questionnaire to the 5th grade students of a primary school. After that, we analyze data by using the conjoint analysis. Based on the result of the conjoint analysis, we give instructions to two classes in order to compare the learning achievement of the two classes. Finally, by evaluating the students and analyzing their satisfaction levels, we diagnose the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Purpose: A conflict of interest is defined broadly as a scenario in which one's responsibilities and self-interest collide in a manner that has a significant probability of corrupting one's discernments, motivations, actions, desires, values, and judgments. This study aims to investigate various cases of conflict of interest. Research design, data and methodology: Our study used the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) to identify resources. The eligibility of selected prior studies thoroughly was investigated whether they are suitable for the topic of present study. Finally, we collected total 15 previous studies published between 2000 and 2021. Results: Research findings indicate that there are three main cases that might cause a conflict of interest and mandated research ethics education might provide researchers with the tools to identify and battle the temptations and biases provided by conflicts of interest. Researchers could likely be better prepared for conflicts of interest if they investigated the moral difficulties associated with them in advance. Conclusions: Researchers might evade deliberate or unconscious detriment of duties, and also objectivity loss because of the siren song of self-interest by escaping situations whereby they may be tempted to shirk their responsibilities, not to remark the hassles of unveiling conflicts.
