As the importance of maintenance of reinforced concrete structure recently has emerged, the attention of durability of structure has been increasing. There are many studies about durability decline especially due to the carbonation. In order to study carbonation progress after surface repair of carbonated concrete, each carbonation penetration velocity from different repair materials of concrete structure is compared through the experiment of carbonation accelerating CO2 concentration to 100%. As carbonation infiltration progress is predicted through this study, the counterplan of service life evaluation will be prepared on selection of repair materials of concrete structure.

A method for repairing cracks using low-viscosity resins has been proposed as a construction method that can quickly repair roads from deterioration. However, when the viscosity of the epoxy resin is high, there is a limit in that it is difficult for the material to penetrate into microcracks and cracks in the concrete top plate. In this study, an epoxy thin-layer pavement repair method was developed using low-viscosity PMMA (Poly methyl methacrylate) to repair microcracks on the pavement surface and pavement layer and reinforce the pavement surface. Materials necessary for the thin-layer packaging method were developed, and performance was evaluated to meet the epoxy binder quality standards. As a result, all materials met the required performance.
PURPOSE. To evaluate the effect of surface treatments and repair materials on the shear bond strength and to measure the fracture toughness of CAD/CAM provisional restoration materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four CAD/CAM (3D printing: Nextdent C&B and ZMD-1000B Temporary, CAD/CAM resin block: Yamahachi PMMA disk and Huge PMMA block) and four conventional (monometacrylate: Jet and Alike, dimetacrylate: Luxatemp and Protemp 4) materials were selected to fabricate disk-shaped specimens and divided into six groups according to surface treatment (n=10). CAD/CAM materials were repaired with Jet or Luxatemp, while conventional materials were repaired with their own materials. The shear bond strength was measured by using universal testing machine. Ten rectangular column-shaped specimens for each material were fabricated to measure the fracture toughness by single edge v notched beam technique. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA. RESULTS. The highest shear bond strength of CAD/CAM materials was achieved by SiC paper + sandblasting. It was also accomplished when repairing 3D printing materials with Luxatemp, and repairing CAD/CAM resin blocks with Jet. Yamahachi PMMA disk showed the highest fracture toughness. Nextdent C&B showed the lowest fracture toughness value but no statistically significant difference from Alike and Luxatemp (P>.05). CONCLUSION. In order to successfully repair the CAD/CAM provisional restoration, mechanical surface treatment and appropriate repair material according to the CAD/CAM material type should be selected. The CAD/CAM provisional materials have proper mechanical properties for clinical use as compared to conventional materials.
It has been reported that more than thirty five percent of steel bridges in the USA are structurally deficient because of structural degradations. The degraded structures need either full replacement or rehabilitation such that they are able to provide the required services for a longer period of time. The cost for repair in most cases is far less than the cost of replacement. Moreover, repair method generally takes less time than replacement and also reduces service interruption time. Modern advanced composites have been used in aerospace and automotive fields since World War II. In the recent past, because of the high strength-to-weight ratio and high stiffness-to-weight ratio, these composite materials have been introduced to civil engineering infrastructures primarily for repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures. However, only a few preliminary studies on repair of corroded steel structures using theses composite materials are reported in the literature available in the public domain. Thus, in this study, a series of laboratory tests was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of this repair method using carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite. The paper discusses the test method and test results obtained from these tests.
In this study, compressive strength and adhesion strength were measured as repair materials to evaluate the mechanical and electrical properties of compression and shear specimens with self-sensing repair materials. As a result of the experiment, the strength improvement rate of the compression test specimen was higher than the section enlargement area ratio, but the shear test specimen did not show an improvement in strength as much as the section enlargement area ratio. Compression experiments under load showed high correlation between FCR-Strain and FCR-Stress, confirming self-sensing performance. However, the shear test did not show as much correlation as the compression test. Accordingly, it is judged that the self-sensing repair material is suitable for the compression member on which the compression load acts in the building.
This study is a basic research for repair material production which manufactured a Cu repair coating layer on the base material of a Cu plate using kinetic spray process. Furthermore, the manufactured material underwent an annealing heat treatment, and the changes of microstructure and macroscopic properties in the Cu repair coating layer and base material were examined. The powder feedstocks were sphere-shaped pure Cu powders with an average size of $27.7{\mu}m$. The produced repair coating material featured $600{\mu}m$ thickness and 0.8% porosity, and it had an identical ${\alpha}$-Cu single phase as the early powder. The produced Cu repair coating material and base material displayed extremely high adhesion characteristics that produced a boundary difficult to identify. Composition analysis confirmed that the impurities in the base material and repair coating material had no significant differences. Microstructure observation after a $500^{\circ}C/1hr$. heat treatment (vacuum condition) identified recovery, recrystallization and grain growth in the repair coating material and featured a more homogeneous microstructure. The hardness difference (${\Delta}H_v$) between the repair coating material and base material significantly reduced from 87 to 34 after undergoing heat treatment.
This study explores the effects of repair width on the deposition characteristics and mechanical properties of stainless steel samples repaired using direct energy deposition (DED). In the DED repair process, defects such as pores and cracks can occur at the interface between the substrate and deposited material. In this study, we changed the width of the pre-machined zone for repair in order to prevent cracks from occurring at the inclined surface. As a result of the experiment, cracks of 10-40 ㎛ in length were formed along the inclined slope regardless of the repair width. Yield and tensile strength decreased slightly as the repair width increased, but the total and uniform elongation increased. This is due to the orientation of the crack. For specimens with a repair width of 20 mm, yield and tensile strength were 883 MPa and 1135 MPa, respectively. Total and uniform elongations were 14.3% and 8.2%, respectively. During observation of the fracture specimens, we noted that the fracture of the specimen with an 8 mm repair width occurred along the slope, whereas specimens with 14 mm and 20 mm repair depths fractured at the middle of the repaired region. In conclusion, we found that tensile properties were dependent upon the repair width and the inclination of the crack occurred at the interface.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the development process of modern repair systems in the Korean peninsula. Sasungjeon, one of the main buildings of Jangansa temple located in Geumgangsan, was repaired from 1941 to 1944. It was the very last restoration work of historic wooden architecture performed during the Japanese colonial era. This work was delayed multiple times because of insufficient materials and human resources. The Bureau of Education(學務局), which was in charge of repair work, understood that the problems of the repair system and suggested reorganizing the system as a solution. This study examined the repair work of Sasungjeon as a background of the bureau's suggestion and considered this suggestion as an attempt to transform the repair system.
This study intends to predict prospective defects and establish the plan of Preventive Maintenance through research and analysis of defect occurrences and their repair costs in the public equipment of ‘H’ apartment house from 1998 to 2001. According to results of the analysis, more than 90% of defects and their repair costs for 4 years of the building have occurred in heating, hot water and water supply equipments. In case of specific classification in each equipment, more than 60% of defects were found at hot water pipes and heating pipes, and their repair costs covered more than 60% of the total defect costs. After two repairs by ‘Preventive Maintenance’ had been performed in the year 1998, total defects and defects of each equipment each yew have increased in number from 1999 to 2001. But total repair costs and repair costs of each equipment have not increased as time has gone by, because repair costs have relationship with the price of materials and labor, the part of defect and the scale of repair.
