  • This paper introduces the additional remote monitoring and remote setting functions needed to operate the distribution automation system effectively. we compare the additional functions with the old functions. The remote setting of minimum trip value of fault indicator is an example of additional function. It saves time and line-man's power. Also this paper describes the data transmission flow diagram for operation of distribution automation system using wireless communication method.

  • In this paper, we propose the protection coordination algorithm using communication methode based on IEC 61850. The communication protocol in power distribution management system has been issued by IEC standard, IEC61850 of them, which was made for substation automation system, has researched to apply into power distribution system, even though the standard is not a suitable for the system. In smart distribution management system' launched in 2009, the communication network based on the ethernet network for IEC 61850 has been designed to apply the self-healing concept, which is to perform the system protection through the communication between remote terminal units(RTU) according to the standard. However, it is first time to apply the scheme in the real. Thus, this paper proposed the protection algorithm and consideration for applying communication method and introduced the result of demonstration.

  • The ballast water may be discharged into another sea area with marine organisms, it caused problems to disturb the marine ecosystem. So, in order to remove these environmental risk factors, the IMO has mandated the installation of BWTS to the all ships. Our monitoring system diagnose and predict a failure of BWTS by analyzing the sensor information of BWTS collected from which the ships scattered in the ocean of several. This paper presents the design and implementation of communication modules for BWTS remote monitoring considering the satellite communication charge fee. In the our study, we implemented the safety and cost-saving communication modules by LabVIEW program. The collected sensor informations is encrypted and compressed by LabVIEW modules running on RIO. Then they will be transfer to the land server and will be decrypt to enable monitoring in the land server. For the verification, we build the test modules which can verify from collecting the sensor data to consuming them in the monitoring server. We carried out 20 times for the data pattern in all of case. So, we verified the excellent functionality and reliability through the experimental result.

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for a realistic force feedback in a remote environment with varying communication time-delay. The remote environment is assumed as a virtual environment based on a computer graphics, for example, on-line shopping mall, internet game and cyber-education. The properties of a virtual object such as stiffness and viscosity are assumed to be unknown because they are changed according to the contact position and/or a penetrated depth into the object. The DARMAX model based output estimator is proposed to trace the correct impedance of the virtual object in real-time. The output estimator is developed on the input-output relationship. It can trace the varying impedance in real-time by virtue of P-matrix resetting algorithm. And the estimator can trace the correct impedance by using a white noise that prevents the biased input-output information. Realistic output forces are generated in real-time, by using the inputs and the estimated impedance, even though the communication time delay and the impedance of the virtual object are unknown and changed. The generated forces trace the analytical forces computed from the virtual model of the remote environment. Performance is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof haptic device and a spring-damper-based virtual model.

  • We developed a small, remote controlled observation ship that can reduce the cost of gathering data for marine and coastal environments. The control system is composed of three microprocessors, one is for overall mission control, another for control of propulsion motors, and the other for sensor operation. For communication system, we adopt direct and indirect methods based on the wireless modem of commercial cellular telephone. The former is a direct communication between the modems of the ship and the server, and the latter is an indirect communication via internet between the ship and the server. The performance of the ship is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments.

  • A remote image transmission apparatus combines robot technology and image transmission there is safe problem or place that a person can not go. Recently, control apparatus that use wire and RF between web server and robot for remote control are developed. But, there is problem that must install Internet line and communication distance. Transmission distance problem can solve when using the equipment of RF, but price of RF router is problem that is very high cost. In this paper, we developed remote control system using the cellular phone communication network that can control image transmission and image transmission apparatus to solve these problem. Developed system could solve defects of methods that use existent RF and internet. And could transmit the most suitable image and voice under limited condition include current communication network.

  • Manipulating a car navigation system while driving can lead to car accident due to loss of concentration. This will be more serious for elders or beginner drivers. Recently, a new Road Traffic Law in Korea prohibits drivers from watching or operating any video displaying devices. So the car navigation system came hard to use. In order to solve the issue we design and implement a novel system where a remote person can control the car navigation system on behalf of the driver. In the proposed system, we suggest to utilize the driver's smartphone for allowing sharing the Internet connection of the phone with the navigation system. The required smartphone application and the server will also be designed and implemented.

However, recently due to high reliability, remote controllability and small power dissipation of a RSPC (Remote Solid State Power Controller), high-friendly DC power systems have increasingly adopted the RSPC as an essential element.   • Sensor application systems for remote monitoring and control are required, such as the establishment of databases and IoT service servers, to process data being transmitted and received through radio communication modules, controllers and gateways. This paper designs and implements database server, IoT service server, data processing middleware and IoT management system for IoT based services based on the controllers, communication modules and gateway middleware platform developed. For this, we firstly define the specification of the data packet and control code for the information classification of the sensor application system, and also design and implement the database as a separate server for data protection and efficient management. In addition, we design and implement the IoT management system so that functions such as status information verification, control and modification of operating environment information of remote sensor application systems are carried out. The implemented system can lead to efficient operation and reduced management costs of sensor application systems through site status analysis, setting operational information, and remote control and management.

  • This paper presents an android-based implementation of real-time remote monitoring system for industrial gas turbines. The use of remote monitoring techniques can be beneficial in terms of not only the reduction of monitoring cost but also the earlier detection of abnormal status. In order to achieve the ability of protecting sensitive information from unauthorized persons, the proposed system supports secure transmissions using the RSA(Rivest Shamir Adleman) algorithm. In the event of abnormal situation on the gas turbine, the remote monitoring system generates an alarm to attract the user's attention by exploiting a push-message technique. The proposed system has been verified through a series of experiments with an experimental setup including a virtual data generator.
