  • As the elderly and the disabled populations increase, the importance of the universal design is more highlighted to form equal and secured environment. Particularly, as the desire for the cultural experience has grown, investment and construction of the cultural space are actively carried forward at the state level, but there are a lot of restrictive elements for the disadvantaged to have the cultural experience in the public facilities. To analyze these elements, investigation into the present conditions and analysis of use evaluation were conducted over the construction environment of museums, the public cultural space, in terms of the visually handicapped and non-handicapped people. Through the literature review, this study understood the concept and principle of the universal design, analyzed and reclassified the existing evaluation elements. As a result of evaluating museums in the country based on the analyzed evaluation elements, the information, environment and supplement points in service were investigated for the visually handicapped to tour museums and remedies were drawn. This study tries to consider these disadvantaged and to suggest evaluation elements and remedies for environment construction, so that everyone can do pleasant activities.

  • Ayurveda is a nearly 3000 years old traditional medical system of India. Most of the time, people turn to ayurvedic physicians in desperate conditions. Here clinical practices of Ayurveda were initially found effective in the management of migraine among few patients. Later, it was developed as an ayurvedic treatment protocol (ATP) which consists of four herbo-mineral formulations (HMF), three meals and three snacks in a day with eight hours sleep at night. ATP brought significant relief in reducing the frequency, intensity of pain and associated symptoms in the migraine patients. IHS diagnostic criteria was followed to establish the diagnosis of migraine and uniform ATP was prescribed to each patient who were primarily treated by the ayurvedic physicians at their respective clinics. Such observations were presented at appropriate international forums. In an effort to validate the above, the present study carries the details of nine migraine patients who were first diagnosed and treated for migraine by a leading headache expert at Mumbai in India and were then referred to receive ATP. A total number of nine subjects volunteered to this program. Out of those, seven subjects completed 120 days of ATP. Five subjects reported significant improvement in overall symptoms of migraine. All subjects were followed up periodically for four years. No Grade II side effects were observed in any treated case. HMF has also been proved to be safe in experimental studies. Further pharmacological and randomized controlled clinical studies are in progress at the respective departments of a premier medical institute in India.

  • The pharmacological effects of medicinal remedies traditionally used in Asian countries for improving the blood circulation were examined on isolated rat thoracic aorta strips in organ baths. Each experimental medicine was consecutively extracted under reflux with water. Of 17 plants, Curcuma longa (CL) having the strongest acute relaxant activity in endothelium-intact arteries, Mucunae caulis (MC), Cirsium pendulum (CP), Rumex longiflius (RL), Paeonia suffruticosa (PS), Curcuma zedoaria (CZ), Scirpus maritimus (SM), Siphonostegia chinensis (SC), Leonurs sibiricus (LS) and Typha orientalis (TO) were showing dose-dependent relaxant activity. Long-term relaxant effects were showed in Curcuma aromatia (CA), MC, CP, RL, PS, Potulacae grandiflorae (PG), CZ, Panax notoginseng (PN), Achyranthes japonica (AJ), CL, SC, Lycoppus lucidus (LL) and Corydalis turtschaninovii (CT). In endothelium-injury test using carbachol, CL, SC, MC, RL and PS which are having the acute vasorelaxing activity and CA and CT which are not showing vasorelaxaing activity were damaged to endothelium. As a result of this study, the possibility that a part of medicinal remedy may contribute to the beneficial effects in blood circulation was proposed, but inter-individual variation has been observed. Also, further studies on the vasorelaxant effects of these remedies are still required.

  • Herbal remedies are enjoying a growing popularity in the world. But, we still pay few attention to the potential hepatotoxicity of herbal remedies, and there are only a few reports about that. We recently experienced a case of drug induced hepatitis caused by ingestion of Dyctamnus dasycarpus, one of herbs used for dermatologic disorders. The patient, a 38 year old woman, was admitted due to jaundice after ingestion of some herbal mixture containing Dyctamnus dasycarpus to treat her atopic dermatitis for 4 months. Other possible causes of liver injury were excluded by laboratory test and imaging studies, and we could find a report on similar cases caused by ingestion of Dyctamnus dasycarpus. During conservative treatment, elevated liver enzyme and total bilirubin level slowly returned to normal value. This case stresses the need to warn the potential hepatotoxicity of Dyctamnus dasycarpus, especially for a long time ingestion. So we suggest the necessity of toxicology screen at regular intervals during long time ingestion of herbal medicine, and further evaluation of the safety and toxicity of Dyctamnus dasycarpus.

  • Scolpendra subspinipes (centipede) is pungent in flavor, activates the channels to stop pain, and, removes toxins and resolves masses. So it has been used as a folk remedy. We researched folk remedies which used centipede as a single medicine and results of its prior clinical and experimental study, and figured out that centipedes are effective on ulcerative disease, herpes zoster, clavus, insect bite, inflammatory disease, furunculus, pain disease by external therapy, and oral administration is effective on anti-cancer such as hepatoma and uterine cancer, cerebrovascular disease, inhibition of atherosclerosis, sedation of central nervous system, antipyretic action, and anti-inflammation, and centipede Herb-Acupuncture is effective on inflammatory disease and pain disease. Centipede preparation materials for external therapy were sesame oil, perilla oil, vinegar, salt, and, burnt alum. Fumigation of centipede treated paronychia, pertussis, and hemorrhoids. For the external therapy, the way of centipede powder mixing with other materials has been used. It is needed that we use dusted powder to make skin absorb its ingredients more easily, and we study intensely minor ingredients to make centipede components absorbed more effectively and do pharmacological action. Also, fumigation, a kind of another external therapy, is considered to be effective treatment of upper respiratory infection like pertussis, so it needs an in-depth study on centipede fumigation.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish and propose a post-diagnosis checklist for the revitalization of domestic regional co-brands that have not been activated despite many strengths. First, I looked into the brand revitalization methodology through prior researches and among them, referring to the cause-remedies model, the cause of the deactivation of the co-brand and the currently used revitalization method were examined through case studies and expert interviews. Regarding the currently used method, the reason for using the method was inferred, and the factors corresponding to the cause and effect were found and categorized in the inferred sentence, and the corresponding detailed items were set and the checklist items were presented. Although this study has a limitation in that there is no practical checklist verification, it is expected that a specific activation plan will be presented through verification of future studies.

  • The Korea Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) system was introduced in 1977 through the Environmental Conservation Act. It has progressed through many laws and regulations promoting the balance between development and conservation, and functioning as a Preventitive environmental policy. Despite the efforts to minimize environmental damage from development and to uplift social awareness of environmental preservation, deficient impartiality and objectivity in completing and investigating environmental assessments, there have continously existed conflicts among related stakeholder, neglecting arrangements and ineffectiveness of public participation. This research present EIA obstacles and analyzes the overall status of the EIA through surveys from related experts. On the basis of this research, the actual complications regarding the developer, public participation, examiner and consultant are brought about. Also, remedies are proposed to ensure effective EIAs and restore confidence in them.

  • In single-molecule fluorescence experiment, the oxygen scavenging system is indispensable for avoiding photo-bleaching of fluorescent dyes. Here we report that the gloxy-based oxygen scavenging system commonly used in single molecule fluorescence experiments can disturb the solution pH considerably. To track in situ pH change, we utilized the pH-sensitive conformational transition of i-motif and examined the transition with ensemble and single-molecule FRET measurements. Based on our results, we also suggested several practical remedies for the stability of the solution pH.
