QOL-BREF and Yangsaeng in Korean Adult (한국 성인의 삶의 질과 양생(養生)과의 관련성)

  • Purpose: Yangsaeng is a traditional health care regimen that incorporates specific principles and methods to promote health and prevent illness, with the aim of improving the health and longevity of life. The present study assessed Yangsaeng and quality of life (QOL-BREF) in Korea. Methods: Data from 346 adults and elderly Koreans was collected by using a self-reported questionnaire. Analysis of the data included descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: Statistically significant differences in QOL-BREF were evident according to the age, job, religion, education level, economic status and positive thinking. Statistically significant differences were evident in Yangsaeng according to religion, education, economic status and positive thinking. Total QOL-BREF positively related to total Yangsaeng. Morality Yangsaeng, exercise Yangsaeng and sleep Yangsaeng were positively related to all QOL-BREF sub-domains. Conclusions: The Yangsaeng oriental health care regimen can improve QOL, and should be recommended as a means of health promotion and QOL in the Korean culture.

A Study of Coping Behavior with Midaged Women's Crisis (중년기여성의 위기감과 대처에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out midaged women's crisis and ways to overcome it. Another purpose is to improve their qualities of life and to provide basic data to develop their potentials. The results are as follows: First, it shows that socio-demographic characteristics have a significant influence on midaged women's crisis. Those variables include religion, jobs, family-life cycle, income, marriage duration, age, and supporting parents. Second, the variables significantly influencing the coping behavior with the crisis include age, income, religion, marriage patterns, region, marriage duration, family-life cycle, and supporting parents. Third, as a result of this research, their negative expression of action or emotion was higher as they were getting old. The general tendency was that an emotional crisis level was low when rational coping behaviors were high. Therefore, self-esteem or social activity improvement programs should be developed for midaged women.

The Analysis of Eco-friendly Values and Related Variables of the Elderly (노인의 환경친화적 가치관과 관련변인분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the eco-friendly values of the elderly. Specific objectives of this study were 1) to survey the eco-friendly levels of the elderly, 2) to find out related variables of the eco-friendly values of the elderly 3) to suggest to develop the eco-friendly values of the elderly for volunteer activity of environmental problem solutions. Two hundred eight elderly persons in the region of Cheong-ju(Chung-cheong Buk Do) were selected, and questionnaire was utilized for collecting data. The results were as follows: The eco-friendly levels of the elderly were relatively high and differed significantly according to educational level, health status, religion, participating volunteer activity and life satisfaction. The significant independent variables influencing the eco-friendly values of the elderly were educational level, health status, religion, participating volunteer activity, and life satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, voluntarism of the elderly provides the solution of environmental problem and life satisfaction, self development for the elderly.

Adolescents′Delinquent Behavior According to Family Related Variables (가정환경 변인에 따른 청소년의 비행 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship of family related variables with adolescents'delinquent behaviors. Family related variables were consisted of (a) family's general characteristics (j.e., occupation, income, etc.) and (b) family relationship charateristics (j.e.. parents'child rearing attitude, parents' marital relationship, and communication level between parents and adolescent children) . Adolescents'delinquent behaviors were also analyzed according to adolescents'general charateristics such as sex, grade, birth order, school achievement level, and religion. The data were collected from 577 middle and high school students in Chonju by using self-administered questionnaire method. Results showed that there were significant differences in the frequency level of adolescents'delinquent behaviors across adolescents'sex, grade, birth order, school achievement level, and religion, and across mother's occupation. and subjective living level. The delinquent behaviors were also negatively correlated with most of family relationship characteristics. Results of multiple regression analyses indicated that communication of adolescent children with their father and mother's child rearing attitude were most significant variables influencing adolescents'delinquent behaviors.

Mysticism in the twentieth Century Depcadent Fashion (20세기 패션에 나타난 세기말적 신비주의)

  • This study is focused on 'mysticism' in fashion which is recently marked as one of the cultural phenomenon emerging at the end of the century, First of all the concept of 'mysticism' and 'occultism' are reviewed to define the mysticism in fashion. Mysticism as a cultural phenomenon is also examined in historical and social context. With these theoretical basis articles which were publshed in 1990s from Korean newspapers and magazines which reported cultural phenomenon related to mysticism are analyzed and categorized. Finally these categories are applied to fashion phenomenon and 'mysticimsm in fashion' is analyzed and clearly examined as a fashion trend. As a result mysticism in fashion that has arose as an end of the century phenomenon within the historical and social context could be categorized into five groups such as 'primitive religion' ' Christianity ' 'oriental philosophy' 'universe' and 'magic and witchcraft'.

A Study on Housewife動s Volunteer Activities Motivation and Satisfaction (주부의 자원활동(自願活動) 참여동기와 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand what needs housewife volunteers want to be satisfied with and try to find the way to satisfy them, examining empirically their participation motivation and activity satisfaction. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1) the housewife volunteers’participation motivation was composed self-developmental, self-actualization, altruistic dimensions and the mean score of self-actualization was the highest. 2) the self-development motivation was proved significantly different in housewives’age, their last child’s age, religion. the altruistic motivation was proved significantly different in their religion. 3) the housewife volunteers’activity satisfaction was proved significantly different in the level of self-developmental motivation, self-actualization, and altruistic motivation. Namely, the higher the level of self-development motivation, self-actualization, and altruistic motivation was, the higher activity satisfaction was. 4) the variables that influence on housewife volunteers’activity satisfaction were family support, self-development motivation, self-actualization, job appropriateness.

Opinions of Parents on Child Welfare in Urban Communities (한국도시부모의 아동복지의식에 관한 조사 연구)

  • This research studied common opinions of parents about child welfare that have been diffused into urban communities in Korea. They were analyzed into major dispositions-anti-collectivists, reluctant collectivists, Fabian Socialists, Marxists-by demographic variables of sex, age, education, occupation, income, and religion. A questionnaire of 18 items was distributed to 1170 parents in the Seoul area who had more than one child under 18 years of age. The returns of 815 parents were analyzed with the statistics of frequency, percentage, and one-way ANOVA. The results of this study showed that (1) The opinions of parents on child welfare in urban communities had tendencies toward Fabian Socialists and reluctant collectivists ; (2) Major demographic factors were education and occupation, but the variables of sex, age, income and religion were not significant.

Attitudes toward Abortion and Related Variables by Abortion Experience (낙태경험 유무별로 본 낙태에 대한 태도와 관련변인)

  • This study explores the relationship between attitudes toward abortion and such variables as age, education, religion, working, family income, son preference, and abortion experience. Questions are asked to see whether or not respondents think it should be possible to obtain legal abortion in nine circumcestances. Logit analysis is executed to see the relationship between abortion attitudes and explanatory variables for all respondents and then for women with abortion experience and for those without. Women with abortion experience are more likely to favor abortion than those without the experience. Catholics show tendency to oppose to legalized abortion compared to women with no religion. Women who show higher son preference are more likely to oppose to abortion in case of pregnancy by rape. Women who are working then to show favorable attitudes toward abortion in case of women who want no more child. Women who have low income and abortion experience have than young women. The more educated women show the more favorable attitudes toward abortion.

  • This study was performed in order to investigate to dietary behavior, perceived stress level and their correlations for University students. Dietry behavior of 72% subjects was poor and only 1.8% was good. The dietary behavior of subjects was correlated with their residence type. The overage stress point was $1.76{\pm}0.53$ and female students was more stressed than male. Stress elevate the food uptakes and digestion disorder in female students. 12 Factors of stress was analyzed in University students, identification, study, friends and off-school activity related factors were more influenced in female students and health related factor was dominant in male. The subjects who more stressed in factor of religion and around people were preferred salty taste. Study, friends, health related stress factor effect to digestion and food uptake level. Religion, boy or girl friends and sex related stress factor effect to alcohol uptake

Family Strength and Self-Esteem Perceived by Adolescent Children (청소년기 자녀가 지각한 가족의 건강성과 자아존중감에 대한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to find out general status of family strength and self-esteem perceived by adolescent children. The major findings are as follows: 1 ) Adolescent children generally perceived their families as strong. Important factors that affected family strength were parents' level of education, economic status, father's religion, and parents' marital status. 2) Adolescents also evaluated their self-esteem positively, in general. Family type, father's level of education, economic status, father's religion, parents' marital status and mother's employment outside home were important factors that influenced adolescents' self-esteem. 3) The family strength and self-esteem as perceived by adolescents were positively correlated. That is, the more highly the adolescents estimated their family strength, the more likely they had high self-esteem.
