In this paper, we investigate the effect of cooperative and selection relaying schemes on multiuser diversity in downlink cellular systems with fixed relay stations (RSs). Each mobile station (MS) is either directly connected to a base station (BS) and/or connected to a relay station. We first derive closed-form solutions or upper-bound of the ergodic and outage capacities of four different downlink data relaying schemes: A direct scheme, a relay scheme, a selection scheme, and a cooperative scheme. The selection scheme selects the best access link between the BS and an MS. For all schemes, the capacity of the BS-RS link is assumed to be always larger than that of RS-MS link. Half-duplex channel use and repetition based relaying schemes are assumed for relaying operations. We also analyze the system capacity in a multiuser diversity environment in which a maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scheduler is used at a base station. The result shows that the selection scheme outperforms the other three schemes in terms of link ergodic capacity, link outage capacity, and system ergodic capacity. Furthermore, our results show that cooperative and selection diversity techniques limit the performance gain that could have been achieved by the multiuser diversity technique.

A moving network is the usage model that provides the mobile stations to the communication service via the mobile relay deployed in the high-speed vehicle. The mobile relay periodically performs the signal strength measurement of the neighbor base stations to select the target base station during the handover procedure. The mobile stations experience the service disruption during the measurement of the mobile relay. In this paper, we propose the estimation based scanning method to overcome the service disruption of the mobile stations connected via the mobile relay. In the proposed method, mobile stations subordinated in the mobile relay periodically measure the signal strength of neighbor base stations in order to perform handover. The measured signal strength is used to estimate the signal strength between the mobile relay and the neighbor base station. We performed simulations in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of the estimation accuracy and the overhead due to the exchange of channel information. By the simulation result, The estimation error is less than 4dBm when more than 6 mobile stations are used for the estimation. The overhead caused by the proposed method is less than that caused by the direct measurement of the mobile relay when the data rate is more than 8Mbps.

The surge impedance of grounding systems must be accurately computed for a safe grounding design. Specifically, the case of radio relay station in a mountaintop region is required special design method using transient analyses. To approach these design objectives, this paper presents an algorithm to compute the surge impedance of two or more grounding systems using the Laplace Transform technique and deals with the analysis of the transient characteristics on grounding systems. Also, simulation results are compared with the measured data to prove the validity of the algorithm.

Relay-assisted multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technique has become a promising candidate for next generation broadband wireless communications for high speed access. In this paper, we propose channel selective relay-based MIMO transmission system. The performance of relay-based system can be improved by using the subcarriers selectively based on the channel condition between relay and mobile station. Simulation results show that the proposed relay-based system considerably outperforms the conventional relay-based system.

This thesis deals with solutions such as coverage area extension, reduction of the shadow region and performance enhancement of handover caused by structural modification of WiBro network. The More far the distance of RAS(Radio Access Station) and SS(Subscriber Station) is in micro cell, the more bad the quality of channel environment becomes owing to radio interference. Consequently, it causes the deterioration of the throughput and also the deterioration of communication quality in many sides. In fact, most users of WiBro are located in the region, the QPSK region which is bad in point of channel quality. It brings the service complaint by user. We select RS(relay station) to solve the matter caused by channel environment in this cell, and extend coverage and improve the performance of handover call blocking.

In this paper, a receive diversity combining technique is proposed for single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA)-based cooperative relay systems when discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading sizes for mobile station (MS) and relay station (RS) are different. The proposed technique is composed of a DFT spreading size adjustment block, a phase rotation compensation block, a channel phase compensation block, and a receive diversity combining block. The proposed technique is robust to multipath channels and can be operated with a relatively small computational complexity because receive diversity combining is performed with scalar operations in the frequency-domain. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed receive diversity combining techniques achieve a performance gain over the conventional maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques for SC-FDMA-based cooperative relay systems.

Traffic safety and congestion are becoming more and more serious, especially the frequent occurrence of traffic accidents, which have caused great casualties and economic losses. Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) can assist in safe driving and improve traffic efficiency through real-time information sharing and communication between vehicles. All vehicles communicate directly with Base Stations (BS), which will increase the base station load. And when the communicating vehicles are too far apart, too fast or there are obstacles in the communication path, the communication link can be unstable or even interrupted. Therefore, choosing an effective and reliable multi-hop relay-assisted Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication can not only reduce the base station load and improve the system throughput but also expand the base station coverage and improve the communication quality of edge vehicles. Therefore, a communication area division scheme based on regular hexagon segmentation technology is proposed, a relay-assisted V2V communication mechanism is designed for the divided communication areas, and an efficient communication link is constructed by selecting the best relay node. Simulation results show that the scheme can improve the throughput of the system by nearly 55% and enhance the robustness of the V2V communication link.

In this paper, we propose an optimal coverage extension scheme in the OFDMA based mobile multi-hop relay system. First, we propose an optimal frequency and time assignment scheme for maximizing system throughput and analyze the frame efficiency of schemes. Then, under the given BS capacity, we find the maximum number of relay hops that can be used to estimate the maximum coverage area of a BS in a multi-hop relay system. Analytical results show that the proposed scheme is efficient in coverage extension and throughput maximization in OFDMA based multi-hop relay system. Our work may be a rough guideline to control the parameters for multi-hop relay system optimization.

This paper proposes a multiple-relay-assisted single side band (SSB) space frequency block code (SFBC) single carrier (SC)-frequency division multiple access (FDMA) system and measures the performance of SSB SFBC SC-FDMA transmission system with the signal-to-noise power ratio SNR) between relays and a destination station. As we know, the performance of relay-assisted transmission systems can be easily improved by re-transmitting to the destination station after applying block code to the recovered transmitted signals of relays. In this paper, the performance improvement of the relay-assisted SSB SC-FDMA system can be obtained without any significant increase of system computational complexity by implementing block code with the complex conjugates symmetric characteristic of SSB system. The simulation result shows that the SNR performance of the proposed multiple-relay-assisted SSB SFBC SC-FDMA system is about 4 dB better than the performance of the single-relay-assisted SSB SC-FDMA system at the symbol error rate of 10-2.
