Q estimates are made by direct measurements of energy loss per cycle from primary P and S waves, as a function of frequency. Assuming that intrinsic Q is frequency independent and scattering Q is frequency dependent over the frequencies of interest, the relative contributions of each, to a total observed Q, may be estimated. Test examples are produced by computing viscoelastic synthetic seismograms using a pseudo spectral solution with inclusion of relaxation mechanisms (for intrinsic Q) and a fractal distribution of scatterers (for scattering Q). The composite theory implies that when the total Q for S-waves is smaller than that for P-waves (the usual situation), intrinsic Q is dominating; when it is larger, scattering Q is dominating. In the inverse problem, performed by a global least squares search, intrinsic $Q_p$ and $Q_s$ estimates are reliable and unique when their absolute values are sufficiently low that their effects are measurable in the data. Large $Q_p$ and $Q_s$ have no measurable effect and hence are not resolvable. Standard deviation of velocity $({\sigma})$ and scatterer size (A) are less unique as they exhibit a tradeoff as predicted by Blair's equation. For the P-waves, intrinsic and scattering contributions are of approximately the same importance, for S-waves, the intrinsic contributions dominate.
There are various types of real world signals. For example, an electrocardiogram(ECG) represents myocardium activities (contraction and relaxation) according to the beating of the heart. ECG can be expressed as the fluctuation of ampere ratings over time. A signal is a composite of various types of signals. An orchestra (which boasts a beautiful melody) consists of a variety of instruments with a unique frequency; subsequently, each sound is combined to form a perfect harmony. Various research on how to to decompose mixed stationary signals have been conducted. In the case of non-stationary signals, there is a limitation to use methodologies for stationary signals. Huang et al. (1998) proposed empirical mode decomposition(EMD) to deal with non-stationarity. EMD provides a data-driven approach to decompose a signal into intrinsic mode functions according to local oscillation through the identification of local extrema. However, due to the repeating process in the construction of envelopes, EMD algorithm is not efficient and not robust to a noise, and its computational complexity tends to increase as the size of a signal grows. In this research, we propose a new method to extract a local oscillation embedded in a signal by utilizing the second derivative.
Magnetization Transfer (MT) imaging generates contrast dependent on the phenomenon of magnetization exchange between free water proton and restricted proton in macromolecules. In biological materials in knee, MT or cross-relaxation is commonly modeled using two spin pools identified by their different T2 relaxation times. Two models for cross-relaxation emphasize the role of proton chemical exchange between protons of water and exchangeable protons on macromolecules, as well as through dipole-dipole interaction between the water and macromolecule protons. The most essential tool in medical image manipulation is the ability to adjust the contrast and intensity. Thus, it is desirable to adjust the contrast and intensity of an image interactively in the real time. The proton density (PD) and T2-weighted SE MR images allow the depiction of knee structures and can demonstrate defects and gross morphologic changes. The PD- and T2-weighted images also show the cartilage internal pathology due to the more intermediate signal of the knee joint in these sequences. Suppression of fat extends the dynamic range of tissue contrast, removes chemical shift artifacts, and decreases motion-related ghost artifacts. Like fat saturation, phase sensitive methods are also based on the difference in precession frequencies of water and fat. In this study, phase sensitive methods look at the phase difference that is accumulated in time as a result of Larmor frequency differences rather than using this difference directly. Although how MT work was given with clinical evidence that leads to quantitative model for MT in tissues, the mathematical formalism used to describe the MT effect applies to explaining to evaluate knee disorder, such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear and meniscal tear. Calculation of the effect of the effect of the MT saturation is given in the magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) which is a quantitative measure of the relative decrease in signal intensity due to the MT pulse.

The in vitro guinea pig ureter responded to 5 sec trains of electrical stimuli with two contractions; the first an 'on response' (ON) occurred with $0.1{\sim}0.3$ sec after the onset o the stimulus train, the second an 'off response'(OFF) occurred $0.2{\sim}1.0$ sec after the termination of the stimulus train. Relaxation occurred between the two responses during a time when the stimulus was still being delivered. Longer duration and/or higher frequencies of stimuli within the train were required to elicit the OFF than the ON. Decreasing temperature from $37^{\circ}$ to $22^{\circ}$ decreased ON amplitude and increased OFF amplitude. $Ca^{++}$-free solution, 2 mM EDTA, 1 mM $Mn^{++}$ or $1{\mu}M$ verapamil rapidly abolished ON. OFF persisted when ON had disappeared by repeated stimulation at 0.12 train per sec. Conversely, caffeine, $50{\mu}M$ and theophylline, $10{\mu}M$ abolished OFF with only slight reduction of ON, and sodium nitroprusside decreased preferentially ON amplitude rather than OFF. Relaxation between ON and OFF was incomplete in low $Na^+$ solution. ON and OFF were not affected by the neural blockers tetrodotoxin, atropine or phentolamine, also pyrilamine and methysergide, and relaxation between ON and OFF was $Na^+$ dependent. Furthermore, ON depends on free $Ca^{++}$ and OFF is more dependent on bound or stored $Ca^{++}$.

This paper considers a fully coupled 3D BEM-FEM analysis for the ship structural hydroelasticity problem in waves. Fluid flows and structural responses are analyzed by using a 3D Rankine panel method and a 3D finite element method, respectively. The two methods are fully coupled in the time domain using a fixed-point iteration scheme, and a relaxation scheme is applied for improve convergence. In order to validate the developed method, numerical tests are carried out for a barge model. The computed natural frequency, motion responses, and time histories of stress are compared with the results of the beam-based hydroelasticity program, WISH-FLEX, which was thoroughly validated in previous studies. This study extends to a real-ship application, particularly the springing analysis for a 6500 TEU containership. Based on this study, it is found that the present method provides reliable solutions to the ship hydroelasticity problems.
The purpose of this study was to investigate stresses from job, patients and guardians experienced by general hospital nurses caring for elderly patients and their stress coping methods. For this study, data were collected from 280 nurses employed at general hospitals with the capacity of more than 400 beds which were located in Seoul. Frequency analysis, t-test and one-way ANOVA were utilized to analyze the data and Scheffe test was used to conduct post-hoc tests. This study found that, of the general hospital nurses' three types of stresses, stress from guardians was the most serious one, followed by stress from patients and stress from job; and that, of the six coping methods utilized by the general hospital nurses, social support was the most-utilized one, followed by problem-focused coping strategy, positive perspective, tension relaxation, indifference and hopeful perspective. Based on these findings, follow-up studies were suggested to develop the hospital nurses' abilities to cope with the ever-changing complex circumstances for the elderly patients.

The voluntary contracted EMG signal of spinal cord injured patients is very small because the information from central nervous system is not sufficiently transmitted to $\alpha$ motor neuron or muscle fiber. Therefore the acquisited EMG signal from needle or surface electrodes can not be identified obvious voluntary contraction pattern by muscle movement. In this paper we propose the extraction technique of voluntary muscle contraction and relaxation pattern from EMG signal of spinal cord injured patient whose EMG signal is composed of the linear sum of mo색 unit action potentials with two noise sources, additive noise assumed to be white Gaussian noise and high frequency discharge assumed to be not motor unit action potential but impulsive noise. In order to eliminate impulsive noise and additive noise from voluntary contracted EMG signal, we use the FatBear filter which is a nonarithmetic piecewise constant filter, and multiscale nonlinear wavelet denoising processing, respectively. The proposed technique is applied to the EMG signal acquisited from transverse myelitis patients to extract voluntary muscle contraction pattern.
This study was designed to investigate effects of calcium antagonists on endothelial and neuronal dysfunction of right coronary artery (RCA) induced by ischemia- reperfusion in anesthetized, open-chest pigs. After reperfusion, pigs were sacrificed and the RCA was rapidly dissected for in vitro experiments. Experimental groups were divided into 4 groups: control (C-RCA), ischemia-reperfusion only (I-RCA), verapamil infusion (VI-RCA) and nifedipine infusion (NI-RCA) group, respectively. The ischemia did not affect hemodynamics, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, LVdP/dtmax, and decreased RCA flow. Arterial pressure and heart rate during ischemia-reperfusion were decreased in VI-RCA and NI-RCA, and RCA flow during reperfusion was increased in NI-RCA. 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) produced concentration-dependent contractions in C-RCA. The 5-HT-induced contractions were potentiated in I-RCA and VI-RCA, but not in NI-RCA. Endothelium-dependent relaxation by calcium ionophore A23187 was inhibited in I-RCA and VI-RCA, and recovered in NI-RCA. Cyclic GMP contents were decreased in I-RCA group alone. Electrical field stimulation in C-RCA produced transient and frequency-dependent contractions and at 50 Hz caused biphasic contractions. The transient contractions were not affected by pretreatment with phentolamine and atropine, but the biphasic contraction was altered by the pretreatment. Both contractions were inhibited in I-RCA, and were partially recovered in VI-RCA and NI-RCA. Ischemia-reperfusion of RCA in pigs causes endothelial and neuronal dysfunctions, and calcium antagonists partially prevent both.
[ $^1H$ ] nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments have been performed at 30 - 300 K and 7 T to investigate dynamics of hydrogen bond network in the single crystal $(NH_4)_3H(SO_4)_2$. The two proton sites, ammonium proton and hydrogen-bond proton, are identified from the $^1H$ NMR MAS spectrum at 340 K. As temperature decreases, the $^1H$ NMR spectrum shifts to the higher frequency side with a larger linewidth. The spectrum at 65 K shows a distinctive change in line shape toward the ferroelectric transition at 63 K. The measured values of $T_1$ for ammonium and hydrogen-bond protons are similar in the whole range of temperature. $T_1$ of $^1H$ NMR shows a gradual decrease down to 120 K and starts to steeply increase below 100 K. Then $T_1$ shows abrupt decrease below 70 K with a sharp minimum at 63 K, where the ferroelectric transition occurs. This temperature dependence of spectrum and $T_1$ clearly prove that the large change in the dynamics of hydrogen bond network is associated with the ferroelectric phase transition at 63 K.

Reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition technology has been used to study SiGe heterostructure epitaxy and device issues, including SiGe relaxed buffers, proper control of Ge component and crystalline defects, two dimensional delta doping, and their influence on electrical properties of devices. From experiments, 2D profiles of B and P presented FWHM of 5 nm and 20 nm, respectively, and doses in 5×10/sup 11/ ∼ 3×10/sup 14/ ㎝/sup -2/ range. The results could be employed to fabricate SiGe/Si heterostructure field effect transistors with both Schottky contact and MOS structure for gate electrodes. I-V characteristics of 2D P-doped HFETs revealed normal behavior except the detrimental effect of crystalline defects created at SiGe/Si interfaces due to stress relaxation. On the contrary, sharp B-doping technology resulted in significant improvement in DC performance by 20-30 % in transconductance and short channel effect of SiGe HMOS. High peak concentration and mobility in 2D-doped SiGe heterostructures accompanied by remarkable improvements of electrical property illustrate feasible use for nano-sale FETs and integrated circuits for radio frequency wireless communication in particular.
