The aim of this study was to understand the effects of skin pigmentation on physiological parameters of thermoregulation and grazing behaviour of dairy goats in a hot and humid climate. The study used 26 crossbred Saanen yearling goats (95% Saanen+5% Local Hair Breed). The animals were raised at semi-intensive private farms in Adana (36 59'N, 35 18'E). Groups were selected 2 d before the start of observations. Goats were categorized as predominantly pigmented (P) skin and unpigmented (UP) skin. All observations and measurements were collected on grassland during the grazing period of June and July 2007 (60 d). Air temperature and relative humidity were recorded at 10 min intervals by a portable data logger. The physiological data (rectal temperature, respiration and pulse rate, and skin temperatures from head and udder) were recorded twice weekly in the morning (07:00-08:00); at midday (13:00-14:00); and in the evening (18:00-19:00). Additionally, the activity of the animals was observed and classified (eating, ruminating, drinking, standing, walking, lying) for 12 h during the day twice weekly, using a portable camera system linked directly to a computer. Panting behaviour was also observed. According to the THI values, the experimental goats were subjected to stressful conditions. The pigmented goats had significantly lower rectal temperatures (39.68 vs. $29.89^{\circ}C$), pulse rate (74.08 vs. 84.10 beat/min) and respiration rate (65.65 vs. 88.23 breath/min.) compared with unpigmented goats at midday when the THI exceeded 92. The rectal, head and udder temperatures, pulse and respiration rates of the non-pigmented group exceeded $40^{\circ}C$, $37^{\circ}C$, $37.5^{\circ}C$, 84 beats/min and 78 breaths/min, respectively. Higher activity was observed among pigmented compared with unpigmented goats. Unpigmented goats grazed (4.3 vs. 5.6 h), ruminated (2.0 vs. 2.4 h), and stood (0.8 vs. 1.2 h) less, but lay down (2.2 vs. 1.8 h) more than pigmented goats. The data obtained in this experiment support the hypothesis that unpigmented goats are more adversely affected by climatic stress, likely due to their decreased activity and increased water consumption, as demonstrated by previous studies.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of hot environment and dietary crude protein level (CP) on performance, carcass characteristics, meat visual quality, muscle chemical composition and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration of tissues in broilers. Two hundred and sixteen 21-d old Arbor Acre broilers were used in a $4\times3$ factorial arrangement and randomly reared in 4 environmental chambers and fed on 3 diets with different CP levels for 3 weeks. The results showed: (1) when air temperature (AT) rose to $33^{\circ}C$, average daily feed intake, average daily gain, carcass weight, right breast meat weight, left thigh and drumstick meat weight decreased (p<0.05) and feed conversion rate decreased (p<0.05), but the ratio of carcass to live weight and of left thigh and drumstick meat weight to carcass weight increased (p<0.05). (2) There were significant differences in pH and shear force in breast meat, and shear force, L* and a* in thigh meat (p<0.01 or 0.05) among hot environments. Dietary CP level tended to affect breast meat pH and pH and L* of thigh meat (p<0.06 or 0.09). Compared to the normal temperature ($22^{\circ}C$), low temperature ($15^{\circ}C$) and hot humid (AT $33^{\circ}C$, relative humidity (RH) 80%) treatments significantly (p<0.05) decreased the tenderness of thigh meat. L* and a* value in thigh meat under high temperature treatments, regardless of RH, were higher (p<0.05) than those under normal temperature. (3) Protein content in breast and thigh meat of broilers fed under high temperature ($33^{\circ}C$) was lower (p<0.05) than that under $22^{\circ}C$, but fat content had an adverse change. High temperature ($33^{\circ}C$) increased the moisture of breast meat significantly (p<0.05). Protein content in breast meat increased significantly (p<0.05), in which fat content had an adverse change (p<0.05), when the dietary protein rose. (4) MDA concentration in liver and breast meat under hot humid (AT $33^{\circ}C$, RH 80%) treatment increased markedly (p<0.05). (5) High humidity could sharpen the bad effect of high temperature on performance, carcass yield and choice cuts, crude protein and moisture content in breast meat. It was concluded that a hot environment could affect the performance and meat quality of broiler chicks more significantly than CP level and that high humidity would aggravate the bad influence of high temperature on the broiler.

Background: Asian dust is known to have harmful effects on the respiratory system. Respiratory conditions are also influenced by environmental conditions regardless of the presence of pollutants. The same pollutant can have different effects on the airway when the air is dry compared with when it is humid. We investigated hospital visits for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma in relation to the environmental conditions. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study using the Korean National Health Insurance Service claims database of patients who visited hospitals in Chuncheon between January 2006 and April 2012. Asian dust, haze, mist, and fog days were determined using reports from the Korea Meteorological Administration. Hospital visits for asthma or COPD on the index days were compared with the comparison days. We used two-way case-crossover techniques with one to two matching. Results: The mean hospital visits for asthma and COPD were $59.37{\pm}34.01$ and $10.04{\pm}6.18$ per day, respectively. Hospital visits for asthma significantly increased at lag0 and lag1 for Asian dust (relative risk [RR], 1.10; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-1.19; p<0.05) and haze (RR, 1.13; 95% CI, 1.06-1.22; p<0.05), but were significantly lower on misty (RR, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.80-0.99; p<0.05) and foggy (RR, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.84-0.93; p<0.05) days than on control days. The hospital visits for COPD also significantly increased on days with Asian dust (RR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.05-1.59; p<0.05), and were significantly lower at lag4 for foggy days, compared with days without fog (RR, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.75-0.97; p<0.05). Conclusion: Asian dust showed an association with airway diseases and had effects for several days after the exposure. In contrast to Asian dust, mist and fog, which occur in humid air conditions, showed the opposite effects on airway diseases, after adjusting to the pollutants. It would require more research to investigate the effects of various air conditions on airway diseases.
Visibility impairment was known as an indicator of the increased air pollution. In many previous studies, it is known that both directly emitted fine particles mainly from vehicles and secondary aerosols from photochemical reactions could contribute to this visibility impairment in addition to the meteorological condition. Furthermore, the visibility showed different change patterns according to the geographical condition. In order to research into the influence of these factors on visibility, this study analyzed the visibility at 15:00, observed from 1990 to 2001 in Seoul, Ganghwa, Susan, Gwangju, Jeju. As a result, the visibility was increased in Seoul except the rainfall period, but in Susan, Gwangju, Jeju, it decreased with the relative humidity (RH). Especially, in Seoul, the number of low visibility days was larger than other sites and variations of the visibility were sensitive to the concentration of air pollutants, such as TSP, $NO_2$, $O_3$. The visibility impairment was mainly observed in meteorological condition of RH<50% and relatively stationary front. Therefore it is inferred that photochemical smog could lead to the low visibility in Seoul. On the other hands, in Ganghwa and Susan, when RH was 60~70%, the low visibility observed under the influence of the transports of air pollutants from nearby cities as well as humid air mass from coastal region. And in Jeju, sea fog and humid air mass caused the visibility impairment when the RH was larger than 80%. Finally, during the observational period, some cases of low visibility phenomena were simultaneously observed in the vast region including Seoul, Susan, Ganghwa. It not only includes the visibility aggravation by Asian Dust, but also could be caused by the movement and diffusion of flying dust or secondary aerosols. Moreover, the result shows that these phenomena could be mainly influenced by meteorological factors covering the wide regions.

This study was conducted to evaluate geographical distribution patterns of natural habitats, soil properties, and plant species grown with native Boehmeria platanifolia in South Korea. The relative density and coverage of Boehmeria platanifolia were 7.0% and 25.6% respectively. Most Boehmeria platanifolia were growing below 200 m of altitude, and they were rarely found at the higher altitude. Over 80% of Boehmeria platanifolia's habitats were found at below $20^{\circ}$ and their habitats were concentrated at the west and the north face slope rather than the south face slope. Nearly 90% of Boehmeria platanifolia were grown at little and middle light condition's area, and 69.1% of them were natively growing in humid soil in their natural habitats. Soil texture of their habitats were mostly clay loam and the soil pH was 6.2. The contents of soil organic matter was $24\;g\;kg^{?1}$ and $P_2O_5$ was $31\;mg\;kg^{?1}$. Plant species grown with native Boehmeria platanifolia were 60 family, 125 genus and 171 species. Clematis apiifolia showed the highest relative density and coverage among plant species grown with native Boehmeria platanifolia.

Red saprolites are appeared in granitic hills in Naju, Southern Korean Peninsula. These red saprolites were analyzed for their geochemistry, including CIA, A-CN-K and A-CNK-FM ternary plots, to understand the chemical weathering trend and rubefaction of the saprolites. These saprolites were compared with kaolinitic saprolites of Guadalquivir Basin in Spain formed under paleo-humid tropical conditions. Chemical Index of Alteration(CIA) value for Naju in Korea is 80, and 87 in Guadalquivir, suggesting moderate and strong weathering in both. Relative to kaolinitic saprolite of Guadalquivir in Spain, red saprolites in Naju are commonly weak loss of CaO, $Na_2O$, especially in $K_2O$. The A-CNK-FM ternary plots of Naju saprolites relative to Kaolinitic saprolites of Guadalquivir shows weak chemical alteration owing to slow removal of $K_2O$, but high mafic constituents, $Fe_2O_3$ and MgO, for most of the samples. In the saprolites of Naju, mafic oxides, $Fe_2O_3$ and MgO, become enriched because of the fast and massive removal of CaO, $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ relative to other elements, resulting in rubefaction of the surface layer of the saprolites, so more redness than kaolinitic saprolites of Guadalquivir. It is found that the rubefaction of the saprolites is not necessarily proportional to chemical weathering intensity.
The optimum temperature range for conidial germination of Pyriculacia oryzae on a slide glass was $26{\sim}30^{\circ}C$, at which at least four hours of leaf wetness period was required to germinate. Conidial germination was significantly reduced under dry conditions (relative humidity<85%) at $34^{\circ}C$ but not at lower temperature (18, 22, 26, $30^{\circ}C$). Number of lesions developed were greater at $26^{\circ}C$ than at other temperature tested. The average leaf wetness period required for production of a lesion per plant was 22 hours at $18^{\circ}C$, 16 hours at $22^{\circ}C$, 10 hours at $26^{\circ}C$, and 8 hours at $30^{\circ}C$. Less than one lesion per plant occurred at $34^{\circ}C$ even under 24 hours of leaf wetness period. The time period between inoculation and lesion appearance was $7{\sim}8$ days at $18^{\circ}C$, $4{\sim}5$ days at $22^{\circ}C$ and $26^{\circ}C$, and $3{\sim}4$ days at $30^{\circ}C$. The time period required for lesion appearance after inoculation was not affected by leaf wetness period and relative humidity. Lesion length increased most rapidly at $30^{\circ}C$ during the first four days after lesion appearance. Thereater, the rate of increase in lesion length was geratest at $26^{\circ}C$. The average increment of lesion length per day when relative humidity was greater than 90% was 0.7mm at $18^{\circ}C\;and\;22^{\circ}C$, 1mm at $26^{\circ}C$, and 0.8mm at $30^{\circ}C$. When relative humidity was less than 85%, the increments of lesion length per day were approximately $50{\sim}60%$ of those under humid conditions (relative humidity>90%) at all temperature regimes except $30^{\circ}C$. Relative humidity did not significantly affected lesion length at $30^{\circ}C$.

Methacryloxyethyl dimethyl alkyl($C_{1}\sim C_{12}$, benzyl and 2, 2-diethoxy ethyl) ammonium bromide monomers were prepared to investigate the relative humidity characteristics for polymer electrolytes with different chemical structures. They were coated on the alumna substrate printed comblike gold electrode by photopolymerization after micro-syringe injection. As the thickness of rhe humid membrane increased, the impendance decreased, whereas the impedance ~ncreased as the carbon cham of alkyl substituent in the monomer increased. The impendance of the polymeric electrolytes with $C_6\sim C_8$ substituents were varied from 19M$\Omega$ to 5K$\Omega$ for the range of 30-90% Mi. The temperature depedence coefficient in the range of 15-$35^{\circ}C$ was found to be -0.45% $RH/^{\circ}C$and the hysteresis falled within the range of $\pm$2% RH. The response time was 35 second for varying humldity from 33% to 85% RH.

Various buildings constructed by environmentally friendly resources are being built in KOREA. Especially the building made by the wood, which has environmental characteristics that the reinforced concrete and brick doesn't have, are acknowledged with its superiority. Then, studies on indoor thermal control capability of the wooden building and influence of its indoor environment to sensory environment of occupants are not enough proceed. Thus, there were proceeded 24 hours measurements for indoor and outdoor thermal environmental elements of Log Cabins and the hourly subjective tests to evaluate indoor amenity of occupants in this study. The results of the study are following: 1) Upon evaluation on thermal environment elements, indoor and outdoor dry bulb temp were 22.0$^{\circ}C$ and -2.9$^{\circ}C$, and Indoor and outdoor average relative humidity were 25.8%and 52.7%. Differences of indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity were 24.9$^{\circ}C$ and 26.9%. 2) Upon contrastive analysis between the results of subjective tests, warm and cold sensation vote, and PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percent Dissatisfaction), values of subjective tests W.9
Most of the stone cultural properties is exposed to the weathering factor(rain, windetc.), so the shelter is constructed for reduction of its direct effect. But the shelter is indicated some problems that inharmoniousness of the surroundings, in section disturbance for insufficiency of light, the loss about the value of cultural properties and so on. So we have investigated on environmental condition (temperature, relative humidity, wind etc.) at the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju and Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan because check the effect of the shelter. As the result, the Standing Stone Buddhist Triad in Bae-ri, Gyeongju is located a pine wood and a lot of bamboo grow naturally in nearing. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is not found because opened on all sides. But there is so dim for the direction of the sunlight that can't see the Standing Stone Buddhist. The base rock of Rock-carved Triad Buddha in Seosan well develop with crack and break, and the vegetation(trees, moss, lichen etc.) grow naturally in surroundings. Environmental difference on inside and outside of the shelter is found because closed on all sides and opened the front gate only inspection time. Inside of the shelter was too calm(air-velocity not detected) and humid(over 75%RH). Also the surface is occurred the dew(at 2-4 pm) and the efflorescence for effect of the water(rain, dew etc.). Besides the head of the central Buddhist is so dangerous for crack.
