  • In this paper, Used on the bridge and ship, investigate the physical relationship of aluminium plate girders(A6082-T6) considering the marine environment. Plate girder will experience the patch loading such as moving load, surcharge in the product life cycle. The ultimate strength of aluminum plate girders subjected to these loads applied multiple numerical model and performed the elasto-plastic large deflection series analysis and was proposed the predicted formula for regression analysis. The predicted formula was shown by the relationship of ultimate strength and slenderness. If the slenderness is low(0-2.3), it causes a 9 % error, and If the slenderness is higher(2.3-4.0), it causes a 1-2 % error. Therefore, the propriety of proposed prediction formular was found to be assess rationally.

  • It is now common to find the wastes buried in the past during the excavation process of soil for large scale housing and land development. Without proper treatment of the wastes environmentally, the excavation process is no longer able to proceed, and an action plan should be provided to treat the wastes with environmental and economic viability. In the study, the relationship between the apparent density of the wastes and the volume conversion factor, which is the basis in the estimation of waste treatment cost was investigated. From 10 sampling points of a landfill site, wastes were sampled, analyzed for physical characteristics, and the apparent density of mixed and sorted waste was assessed. Applying the empirical formula, and the formula we suggested here, the volume conversion factors were compared with that measured directly in the field using dump truck and excavator. Obviously there was a close relationship among the volume conversion factors resulting from the empirical formula, the formula we suggested and that measured in the field.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the energy expenditure and investigate the relationship between related variables in 70 female university students. Resting energy expenditure estimated by Harris-Benedict formula, WHO/NAO/FAO formula and various formulas based on body weight and body surface area were 1366.9$\pm$74.4kcal/day, 1287.8$\pm$106.6kcal/day, 1171.4$\pm$155.8kcal/day and 1342.0$\pm$97.4kcal/day. Measured resting energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry(Model : Metavine and TrueOne2400) were 1582.0$\pm$150.1kcal/day and 1268.2$\pm$152.9kcal/day, respectively. Average step number per day was 11981.2$\pm$3014.4 steps and average step number per hour was 746.1$\pm$198.0 steps/hr. Daily energy expenditure by using Harris-Benedict formula, body weight formula, body surface area formula, WHO/NAO.FAO formula and 15-min check list formula were 2374.7$\pm$249.6kcal, 2033.5$\pm$313.2kcal, 2331.2$\pm$266.0kcal, 2240.8$\pm$185.5kcal and 2195.5$\pm$398.3kcal. Meanwhile energy intake of subjects was 1714.9$\pm$551.2 kcal. Daily energy expenditure has positive correlation(r=0.262) with daily step number. And there was significant positive correlations(r=0.35-0.68) between various daily energy expenditures and muscle mass. These results suggested that increase of daily step number by using pedometer is good method to increase daily energy expenditure. In particular, increase in step number can reinforce the amounts of muscle.

  • In this article, Multi-Gene Genetic Programming (MGGP) is proposed for the estimation of the compressive strength of concrete. MGGP is known to be a powerful algorithm able to find a relationship between certain input space features and a desired output vector. With respect to most conventional machine learning algorithms, which are often used as "black boxes" that do not provide a mathematical formulation of the output-input relationship, MGGP is able to identify a closed-form formula for the input-output relationship. In the study presented in this article, MGPP was used to predict the compressive strength of plain concrete, concrete with fly ash, and concrete with furnace slag. A formula was extracted for each mixture and the performance and the accuracy of the predictions were compared to the results of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) algorithms, which are conventional and well-established machine learning techniques. The results of the study showed that MGGP can achieve a desirable performance, as the coefficients of determination for plain concrete, concrete with ash, and concrete with slag from the testing phase were equal to 0.928, 0.906, 0.890, respectively. In addition, it was found that MGGP outperforms ELM in all cases and its' accuracy is slightly less than ANN's accuracy. However, MGGP models are practical and easy-to-use since they extract closed-form formulas that may be implemented and used for the prediction of compressive strength.

  • This study was aimed at determining a regime of flow through rubble mound dike consisted of all sized quarrystons, and deriving a relationship between hydraulic gradient (I) and mean flow velocity (V) through the dike. The analysis was carried out with the data observed after final gap closing of the Haenam Sea dike from May, 6 to May, 14, 1987. The resu]ts are summarized as follows: 1. The regime of flow would be defined as the turbulent flow. 2. As to the relationships, two kinds of formula that are exponential and binomial were obtained. Exponential formula: I=2.099V 1.2888 Binomial formula: I=0.6113V+5.5235V$^2$ 3. Correlation coefficient of the former was 0.824 and that of the latter was 0.821, and the deviations between observed data and estimated were 0.0070 and 0.0064 respectively. 4. Comparing the correlation coefficient, both the equations have the same correlation coefficients, but in case of the deviation the binomial equation was better than the exponential equation. Therefore, the binomial equation is proposed for analyzing the flow through rubble mound dike.

  • Pneumatic transportation systems are operated most economically, if the transportation velocity is somewhat greater than the limit velocity. Therefore it is very important to find out this limit velocity. That is well known for coarse and fine particles, but not yet for long ribbon type material. In this study a formula for the mass ratio of transported material to air in limit load point is derived for ribbon type material from the pneumatic transportation theory and the model theory. A relationship for estimating the limit velocity is also found out through experiments. The possibility of the generalization of this formula, which is obtained from a given pneumatic transportation system, should be estimated through further systematic studies.

  • Well designed group bolted connections can exhibit excellent ductile behavior through the bearing mechanism until the occurrence of shear rupture in the bolt or in the connecting plate. This excellent ductility can be utilized in favor of economical connection design. In this study, comprehensive tests on single-bolt bearing connections were conducted and analyzed considering bearing boundary conditions. The primary objective was to propose a generalized bearing strength and load-deformation relationship that can be used for designing group-bolted connections. To this end, new bearing strength formula, deformation limits as well as new load-deformation relationship were first proposed. Especially the proposed load-deformation relationship can reflect the stiffness, strength, and geometrical boundary conditions of the joint. The proposed formula and relationship are validated based on test results.

  • This study was intended to investigate the rheological properties of the development formula of infant foods and the results are summarized as follow ; 1) Consistency of starch solutions measured by Brabender Anylograph and Brookfield viscometer showed that waxy rice and riece with malt had lower consistency and more rheological stability. The flow type of tested raw materials and formula was found to ? pseudoplastic, as judged by n-value of 0.332 -0.692, and no yield value. 2) The influenced of temperature on consistency could be accounted for by the equation, In (n) = K(1/T) + const. this relationship indicated that consistency of tested sample increased as temperature decreased. The consistency of waxy rice, rice with malt and formula A were less affected by the temperature change. 3) Infant foods with malt(formula A ) ad with waxy rice maintained better freeze-thaw stability in terms of consistency and starch aggregation indicating that this infant food could be stored for a long term in the freezer section of the home refrigeratory without adverse effect on the product quality. 4) From the above experiments, it would necessarily follow that infant food can be easily made at home the food-stuffs generally available around us, and that the easiest and safest way to store them lies in making them into semisolid state, and in keeping them in frozen state.
