  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the cause of increasing dry zones through analyzing relationships between land cover and Vegetation Temperature Condition Index(VTCI) using Landsat 4-5 TM satellite images in Central Dry Zones of Myanmar. As a result of land cover classifications, while vegetation areas gradually decrease, residential area and cropland were increased. VTCI analysis shows that region (a) showed a gradual decrease in the area of severely arid, and increase in the area of moderate dry and wet, which sums up to a slight decrease in aridity. Region (b) also showed to increase in dry areas and severe aridity. The result of relational analysis between VTCI and land cover change showed high ratio of land cover change, from severe arid area to forest and residential farmland. The average VTCI decreased in the changed land covers, which indicates the relationship between aridity and land cover change and a gradual increase in the arid area was identified.

  • With the many advantages of the internet, online shopping has become one of the fastest growing types of retail businesses. However, internet-based firms are much more firmly required to retain existing customers rather than secure new ones, and to make them revisit the site by strengthening trust and loyalty, thereby improving profits and outrivaling competitors. Commitment is an essential part of successful long-term relationships between buyers and sellers. Although commitments by both parties in an exchange can provide the foundation for the development of relational social norms, disproportionate commitments can lead to opportunism by the less committed partner. Moreover, flow, which is characterized by intense concentration and enjoyment, was found to be significantly linked with exploratory use behavior, which in turn was linked to the extent of computer use. The level of flow was, itself, determined by the individual's sense of being in control, and the level of challenge perceived in maneuvering a website. Website attractiveness goes hand in hand with the attractiveness of an internet shopping mall, and it can be conceptualized as the persuasive effectiveness of a message by the use of familiarity, favor, similarity, etc. It occurs when information receivers try to achieve self-satisfaction when they actually or emotionally identify themselves with an information source. This study investigates the relationship between the perceived system characteristics of an internet shopping mall and the loyalty of online consumers, and it examines how perceived website attractiveness and flow play mediating roles between the perceived system characteristics of an internet shopping mall and the affective commitment in the context of a clothes internet shopping mall. For these purposes, a structural model comprising several variables was developed. That model was tested with an analysis of moment structure (AMOS) using data from respondents who had purchased clothing through the internet during the past three months. In this model, the perceived system characteristics of an internet shopping mall, such as familiarity, reputation, uniqueness, positive emotions, self-efficacy, and interactivity, were proposed to affect the website's attractiveness and flow, and lead to a higher affective commitment over time. Thus, the perceived website attractiveness and flow were proposed as core mediating variables between perceived system characteristics and affective commitment. The results of a reliability test using Cronbach's Alpha, and a confirmatory factor analysis warranted using unidimensionality for the measures for each construct. In addition, the nomological validity of the measures was warranted from the results of a correlation analysis. The results of empirical analyses indicated that systematic attributes resulting in website attractiveness and user's characteristics, thereby triggering customers' flow, play a crucial role in inducing customers' affective commitment, and a user's characteristics are twice as important as systematic attributes in this study. Moreover, familiarity, reputation, and uniqueness all have a significant effect on website attractiveness, and the research showed that uniqueness took the first place, and that familiarity and reputation followed in order of magnitude. The fact that reputation was not the most important factor that affects the attractiveness of an internet shopping mall, with uniqueness or familiarity having a greater impact, suggests much deeper implications. Finally, positive emotion, self-efficacy, and interactivity all have a significant effect on customers' flow. In particular, the fact that positive emotion, compared to self-efficacy or interactivity, has much more impact on flow is very suggestive.

  • The study investigated the linguistic characteristics of middle school students' writing on the themes of earth science through analysis of its genre and register. Data for analysis included $7^{th}$ grade and $9^{th}$ grade students' writings about 'global warming' and 'classification of rocks'. The results of this study include: First, many students were not accustomed to writing in genre, especially exposition genre. Second, in terms of ideational meaning, the material verbs representing action or doing were more dominant than relational verbs that are related to the attribute or definition of things, and additional logical relations were predominant. Third, regarding interpersonal meaning, agents, emotions, subjective opinions appeared in the writings and students did not express their ideas conclusively and revealed feelings of doubt and uncertainty about their knowledge. Fourth, as for textual meaning, most students listed fragments of information using additional conjunctions in simple structures and were not accustomed to writing texts with organizing structures, logical patterns, cohesion, and coherence. From these results, we argued that the scientific writings should be emphasized in science learning that aims to foster scientific literacy. In addition, we discussed the necessity of improving science teachers' perceptions on scientific writing as well as setting up a specific plan in the national curriculum.

  • Recently, the interests of marine mineral resources has been increasing from the depletion of land resources around the world and many countries are involving in marine exploration work. South Korea is also currently performing exploration work to estimate the marine mineral resources around the Korean Peninsula. However, massive amounts of marine exploration data accumulated from the long-term exploration work have not been systematically managed. The data have been managed by the file based system instead of commercial database. The aim of this study is to construct GIS-based Marine Mineral Resource Information System using a spatial database for the core sediments of the marine exploration data. For constructing such DB system, GIS-based data items were classified, and a database was designed using relational database model. The database was constructed using commercial DBMS(Database Management System), Oracle. Also, necessary functions of the system were defined for the effective use of database based on users' requirement analysis. The GIS-based Marine Mineral Resource Information System has enabled to support the systematic management of the marine exploration data. Furthermore, it is expected that this spatial database will be useful in estimating the reserves of the mineral resources and provide valuable information for economic evaluation. In the future, the application of advanced techniques of spatial analysis and 3-dimensional display function will be required.

  • This study aims to explore structural properties and central actors of the local water policy system through a network approach, and to suggest practical implications for establishing collaborative water governance at the local level. Especially, this study conducts a social network analysis to empirically analyze the actors' roles and relationships of water management in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and represent them with sociograms. In this study, the local water management network is divided into two dimensions: official work network, public-private policy network based on information-sharing and consultation. Also, the networks are divided into a whole network and two sectoral networks(water-use/water-quality). This study found some meaningful differences of structural properties and central actors not only in the official work networks and the policy networks but also in the water-use networks and the water-quality networks. Thus, public managers should diagnose and manage the relational properties among multiple stakeholders in local water sector through a network perspective. In particular, (1)co-operation between the administrative departments responsible for water-use and water-quality, and (2)information-sharing and consultation among public and private stakeholders should be improved to establish collaborative local water governance.

  • Reckless use of the Internet by children is a barrier to daily life and has a negative impact on children's physical, psychological and relational aspects. But more and more children depend on the Internet. Thus, the study conducted a meta-analysis to examine the effectiveness of group programs that involve Internet addiction among elementary school students. The study analyzed 18 studies of a local Internet group counseling program. First, the overall effectiveness of Internet-dependent group programs that cause Internet addiction reduction in elementary school students is shown to be g=0.90, indicating that group counseling programs are effective in reducing Internet addiction and changing related variables. Second, as a result of verifying differences between groups, there were differences in effectiveness in voluntary participation motivations. Therefore, intervention by elementary school students requires preventive training for smart phones so that voluntary participation can occur, and education for parents to develop autonomy for children to use smartphones properly. And rather than making these efforts limited to smart phones, IT retriever education needs to be organized.

  • Most of the industrial complexes and housing complexes in Busan and Gyeongnam were constructed by developing mountainous areas, except for some landfill areas. During the development process, the surplus soil for site development was mainly used as the embankment material. In the field, however, even if the material of the material changes during the embankment work for site development, for convenience reasons such as construction period and site conditions, the material property test and compaction test are not additionally conducted for the embankment material, and quality control is conducted. In this study, physical property tests and compaction tests were conducted on surplus soils in mountainous areas in Busan, GyungNam Province and then regression analysis was performed on the data. In addition, a comparative analysis was conducted along with existing studies in Korea. The surplus soils at the sites in Busan and Gyeongnam were mainly weathered soils of granites, and were classified into clayey sand (SC) and silty sand (SM). As a result of regression analysis of the compaction characteristics according to the content of coarse and fine soils, the correlation between them was very high. Using the relational formula as a result of this study, it will be very useful for compaction management of the surplus soils in the field.

  • Purpose - In recent years, research has been conducted on the conflict resolution strategies of the franchise headquarters and the franchisees, but there is a lack of research on how the power structure and cultural factors play a role in resolving conflicts. From this perspective, this study is to examine the structural relationship between franchisors' cultural orientation and relationship power, and conflict resolution strategies, relationship trust, and relationship performance using. The findings of this study suggest how franchise headquarters should establish long-term relationship with franchisees and share information. Research design, data, methodology - The data were collected from April 1 to April 15, 2013. Because this study examined franchise industries from the franchisee perspective, we contacted franchisee store owner and managers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Interviewers trained contacted a total of 200 franchisees, and 196 franchisees responded. Out of 196 respondents, 13 respondents were deleted due to missing information. Thus, a total of 183 franchisee were used for this study. he data were analyzed using frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equational modeling with SPSS 24.0 and Amos 23.0 statistical program. Results - The results showed that cooperation orientation and relational power of franchisor had significant effects on conflict resolution strategies. Cooperating, obliging, and compromising strategies of conflict resolution strategy had significant effects on relationship trust. Also, relationship trust had significant effect on relationship performance. Conclusions - This study shows that the franchise headquarters and the franchisees share necessary information for common purposes and that continuous two-way communications play an important role in resolving conflicts. In other words, the result of this study suggests that if the franchise headquarters and the franchisee actively consider the position of the other party and strive to achieve the goal, conflict resolution may be more successful. In order to do this, the franchise headquarters will have to consider how to build and maintain continuous communication with the franchisees, and continuous education is also needed so that employees can have a cooperative attitude. However, since the culture of these organizations is not made up of simple staff training and is not formed within a short time, the CEO of the franchisee headquarters should take the lead in establishing a cooperative culture with the merchants over the long term.
