  • As the propellant mass is being accelerated out of the gun chamber along with the projectile, a continuous pressure gradient exists between the end of chamber and the base of the projectile. For this reason, the base pressure-travel curve is very important to design a conventional gun barrel in the interior ballistics, but it is not obtained briefly by empirical or theoretical method. In this paper, a simple relation between chamber pressure and base pressure was determined by the factor of base pressure(Cb) obtained from the experimental method. The simple relation gives a reasonable prediction for the reduction of pressure between the breech and the base of projectile owing to the axial gradient in the gun tube. The predictions have been validated by the infrared screen sensor and the PRODAS(PROjectile Design and Analysis System) for interior ballistic systems. Therefore, the base pressure-travel curve could be calculated from the chamber pressure measured by piezoelectric sensor. The base pressure-travel curve obtained from the simple relation offers initial information to gun barrel designer and is used for calculation of muzzle velocity.

  • Soil erosion is a very serious problem from agricultural as well as environmental point of view. Various computer models have been used to estimate soil erosion and assess erosion control practice. Universal Soil loss equation (USLE) is a popular model which has been used in many countries around the world. Erosivity (USLE R-factor) is one of the USLE input parameters to reflect impacts of rainfall in computing soil loss. Value of R factor depends upon Energy (E) and maximum rainfall intensity of specific period ($I30_{max}$) of that rainfall event and thus can be calculated using higher temporal resolution rainfall data such as 10 minute interval. But 10 minute interval rainfall data may not be available in every part of the world. In that case we can use hourly rainfall data to compute this R factor. Maximum 60 minute rainfall ($I60_{max}$) can be used instead of maximum 30 minute rainfall ($I30_{max}$) as suggested by USLE manual. But the value of Average annual R factor computed using hourly rainfall data needs some correction factor so that it can be used in USLE model. The objective of our study are to derive relation between averages annual R factor values using 10 minute interval and hourly rainfall data and to determine correction coefficient for R factor using hourly Rainfall data.75 weather stations of Korea were selected for our study. Ten minute interval rainfall data for these stations were obtained from Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and these data were changed to hourly rainfall data. R factor and $I60_{max}$ obtained from hourly rainfall data were compared with R factor and $I30_{max}$ obtained from 10 minute interval data. Linear relation between Average annual R factor obtained from 10 minute interval rainfall and from hourly data was derived with $R^2=0.69$. Correction coefficient was developed for the R factor calculated using hourly rainfall data.. Similarly, the relation was obtained between event wise $I30_{max}$ and $I60_{max}$ with higher $R^2$ value of 0.91. Thus $I30_{max}$ can be estimated from I60max with higher accuracy and thus the hourly rainfall data can be used to determine R factor more precisely by multiplying Energy of each rainfall event with this corrected $I60_{max}$.

  • In aqueous alumina tape casting, the effects of altering the composition of the suspensions, the binders and the casting thickness were studied. The rheological behavior of the suspensions and the defects of the dried tapes were examined and the relationships between them are discussed. The changes in the defect regions reported in the previous paper were related with the rheological properties with variations of the binder, the composition and the casting thickness. The shear thinning factor increased with the organic content and the solid content (the decrease of water content). The apparent viscosity increased with the shear thinning factor. The relation between the shear thinning factor and the log apparent viscosity was similar for all binder types. In the relation between the defect free region and the rheological properties, the defect free region became narrower with increasing casting thickness. The defect free region is independent of binder type. Therefore, the thicker tape is more difficult to produce in aqueous alumina tape casting. Knowledge of the rheological properties of the suspensions could help Predict the defect type and the possibility of defect free dried tapes.

  • Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) foil is a novel structural material which has being used in shell and spatial structures. This paper studies biaxial creep property of ETFE foil by creep tests and numerical simulation. Biaxial creep tests of cruciform specimens were performed using three stress ratios, 1:1, 2:1 and 1:2, which showed that creep coefficients in biaxial tension were much smaller than those in uniaxial one. Then, a reduction factor was introduced to take account of this biaxial effect, and relation between the reduction factor and stress ratio was established. Circular bubble creep test and triangle cushion creep test of ETFE foil were performed to verify the relation. Interpolation was adopted to consider creep stress and reduction factor was involved to take account of biaxial effect in numerical simulation. Simulation results of the bubble creep test embraced a good agreement with those measuring ones. In triangle cushion creep test, creep displacements from numerical simulation showed a good agreement with those from creep test at the center and lower foil measuring points.
