Soil nailing is ground reinforcement method using the shear strength of ground and the pullout shear resistance force of nail. It is mainly used for reinforcement of cut slopes, earth retaining structures and retaining walls, etc. It may be designed considering the pullout resistance of nail in the case of earth retaining structure and retaining wall, but it should be designed considering not only pullout resistance but also shear and bending resistance in the case of slope. However, conservative designs considering only pullout resistance are being done and most of the studies are about increasing pullout resistance by improving of material, shape and construction method of nail. Actually, Shear bending deformations occur centering on the active surface in ground reinforced with the nail. The grout with relatively low strength is destroyed and separated from the reinforcing material. As a result, the ground is collapsed while reducing the frictional resistance rapidly. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the method to increase the shear resistance while preventing separation of nail and grout body. In this study, an experimental study was conducted on new soil nailing method which can increase shear resistance by forming protrusions through pressurized grouting after installing a packer on the outside of deformed bar.

In reinforced concrete structure, rebar connection method should be considered because of its structural role to resist the tensile stress and its structural load transmission with concrete in the concrete structure. Lapped splice and mechanical sleeve type connector have been traditionally used to connect rebar in the concrete structures. In this study, to examine the mechanical and failure behaviors of rebar bar connected by taper type coupler in the concrete member depending on connection type and condition, tensile tests of steel rebar with taper type coupler and flexible loading tests of concrete beams were conducted. Its tensile strength and flexible strength of the rebar connected by taper type coupler were compared and evaluated by mechanical behaviors of rebar. From this study, steel rebar connected by taper type coupler showed it has similar mechanical performance comparing with unconnected rebar, thus taper type coupler can be used in the rebar fabrication of reinforced concrete structure.
Conventional nonlinear finite element analysis requires complicated modeling and analytical technique. Furthermore, it is difficult to interpret the analytical results presented as the stress-strain relationship. In the present study, a design-oriented analytical method using the truss model was developed. A reinforced concrete member to be analyzed was idealized by longitudinal, transverse, and diagonal line elements. Basically, each element was modeled as a composite element of concrete and re-bars. Simplified cyclic models for the concrete and re-bar elements were developed. RC beams and walls with various reinforcement details were analyzed by the proposed method. The inelastic strength, energy dissipation capacity, deformability, and failure mode predicted by the proposed method were compared with those of existing experiments. The results showed that the proposed model accurately predicted the strength and energy dissipation capacities, and to predict deformability of the members, the compression-softening model used for the concrete strut element must be improved.
In the present study, to enhance the constructability, a composite slab system using deck plate and micro steel fiber concrete was studied. In the proposed slab system, on-situ re-bar placement is not required. Steel fibers replace the temperature reinforcement. The present study focused on the crack control at the slab top in the continuous composite slab without spliced bars. Eight continuous slabs with various parameters were tested under vertical loading. The test parameters were the amount and types of micro steel fibers, types of deck plate, and the use of top bars in the continuous slab. To evaluate the crack resistance of the slabs, crack widths were measured in the continuous slabs. The test results showed that although the top spliced bars were not used, cracking were restrained by large flexural stiffness of the composite sections.

This paper investigates the corrosion inhibition and the reduction of hydration heat properties of Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag (GGBFS) added concrete. Since the massive civil structure is vulnerable to the thermal crack by hydration. adiabatic temperature rising tests were performed for water-binder ratios from 43.2% to 47.3%, while replacing 15% to 50% of cement with GGBFS of equal weight. Then, the corrosion protection performance was evaluated using cylindrical specimens embedded with steel reinforcement according to the combination of 3 W/B ratios and 2 levels of chloride ion quantity. The corrosion area of the embedded steel ban was determined using the high pressure steam curing method specified in KS F 2561. The test results showed that the replacement of GGBFS was effective in reducing the hydration heat. The corrosion area of the embedded steel ban decreased as the replacement of GGBFS increased. However, the corrosion area of the steel bar was proportional to the autoclave cycle and the chloride ion quantity. Among the tested specimens, compressive strength, reduction of hydration heat, and corrosion inhibition performance were excellent when 50% of cement was replaced with GGBFS of equal weight.

The deformation and crack width of concrete walls of slabs, plates, panels and shells reinforced by a regular rectangular net of reinforcing bars and subjected to in-plane (membrane) internal forces is analyzed on the basis of a realistic model which takes into account the frictional-dilatant behavior of rough interlocked cracks, the effect of tension stiffening, and the dowel action of bars at crack crossings. Extensive numerical computer studies are carried out, and the reinforcement designs obtained from equilibrium conditions alone on the basis of either the classical frictionless approach or the recent frictional approach are compared in terms of the resulting crack widths. It is found that the use of frictional equilibrium design based on a low friction coefficient leads to a much smaller crack width than the classical frictionless design. The influences of bar diameter and crack spacing on the crack width are also studied. The model allows more realistic deformation analysis of reinforced concrete structures.

Co Evolutionary Structural Design(CESD) Framework is presented, which can deal with the load design and structural topology design simultaneously. The load design here is the exploration algorithm that finds the critical load patterns of the given structure. In general, the load pattern is a crucial factor in determining the structural topology and being selected from the experts어 intuition and experience. However, if any of the critical load patterns would be excluded during the process of problem formation, the solution structure might show inadequate performance under the load pattern. Otherwise if some reinforcement method such as safety factor method would be utilized, the solution structure could result in inefficient conservativeness. On the other hand, the CESD has the ability of automatically finding the most critical load patterns and can help the structural solution evolve into the robust design. The CESD is made up of a load design discipline and a structural topology design discipline both of which have the fully coupled relation each other. This coupling is resolved iteratively until the resultant solution can resist against all the possible load patterns and both disciplines evolve into the solution structure with the mutual help or competition. To verify the usefulness of this approach, the 10 bar truss and the jacket type offshore structure are presented. SORA(Sequential Optimization & Reliability Assessment) is adopted in CESD as a probabilistic optimization methodology, and its usefulness in decreasing the computational cost is verified also.
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term performance of various concrete composites in natural marine environment prevailing in the Gulf region. Durability assessment studies of such nature are usually carried out under aggressive environments that constitute seawater, chloride and sulfate laden soils and wind, and groundwater conditions. These studies are very vital for sustainable development of marine and off shore reinforced concrete structures of industrial design such as petroleum installations. First round of testing and evaluation, which is presented in this paper, were performed by standard tests under laboratory conditions. Laboratory results presented in this paper will be corroborated with test outcome of ongoing three years field exposure conditions. The field study will include different parameters of investigation for high performance concrete including corrosion inhibitors, type of reinforcement, natural and industrial pozzolanic additives, water to cement ratio, water type, cover thickness, curing conditions, and concrete coatings. Like the laboratory specimens, samples in the field will be monitored for corrosion induced deterioration signs and for any signs of failureover initial period ofthree years. In this paper, laboratory results pertaining to microsilica (SF), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), epoxy coated rebars and calcium nitrite corrosion inhibitor are very conclusive. Results affirmed that the supplementary cementing materials such as GGBS and SF significantly impacted and enhanced concrete resistivity to chloride ions penetration and hence decrease the corrosion activities on steel bars protected by such concretes. As for epoxy coated rebars applications under high chloride laden conditions, results showed great concern to integrity of the epoxy coating layer on the bar and its stability. On the other hand corrosion inhibiting admixtures such as calcium nitrite proved to be more effective when used in combination with the pozzolanic additives such as GGBS and microsilica.
This study was conducted to verify seismic performance of special moment frame's joints at roof-level with high-strength concrete and SD600 bars. K-RC-H was designed according to the seismic code and K-HPFRC-H had 150% of the original hoop spacing and 1.0% steel fiber volume fraction compared with K-RC-H. Both specimens had remarkable seismic performance without noticeable decrease in moment, but with very good energy dissipation before rebar failure. The U-bars in the joint sufficiently constrained rebar's action that pushed the cover upward. SD600 bars with $1.25l_{dt}$ had minimum slip in the joint. It was considered that the steel fiber contributed to improvement of the bending moment and joint shear distortion, and the result showed that it would be possible to increase the hoop spacing to 150% of the regular spacing.
A proposal of the basic fbrm on the design of joint parts that can increase the shear strength by the useful joint shapes of each member is intended. The vertical joint parameters are the number of' shear key and a variety of' reinfbrcement details and the horizontal joint paramctcrs arc t,hc number of shear key and the direction of' shear f'orcc. 10 PC panel vortical joint arid 12 PC panel horizontal joint specimens were tested to investigate the effects of these parameters. Test results show that : 1. The ductility of the test specimen that has the horizontal reinforcing steels is larger than that does not have. 2. The maximum resisting force of round bar specimen is similar to that of strand wire specimen under the condition of fixed horizontal displacement.
