The Purpose of this study is to offer an appropriate and reliable safety evaluation method the reinforced concrete members like as reinforced concrete deep beams and reinforced concrete columns, etc. A nonlinear finite element analysis program named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology) was used to evaluate the ultimate strength analytically for the reinforced concrete members that have complicated mechanical behaviors. The nonlinear material model for the reinforced concrete is composed of models for characterizing the behavior of the concrete, in addition to a model for characterizing the reinforcing bars. The proposed numerical method for the safety evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge structures that is consisted of reinforced concrete member is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

Recently, many researches have been conducted about reinforced concrete structures strengthened with FRP plates. In case of structures strengthened with FRP plates, the issue of premature debonding FRP plate has been raised through many previous researches. The purpose of this paper is what structural behavior and flexaural capacity of reinforced concrete beams which are strengthened for flexure is investigated about the using secondary ironware in the method of external bonded CFRP plate, and the method of near surface mounted CFRP-Rod. Also, in order to evaluate flexural capacity, experiments of the reinforced concrete beams with exteranl bonded CFRP plate and near surface mounted CFRP-Rod have been compared and investigated.
This study presents a new beam-column model comprising material nonlinearity and joint flexibility to predict the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. The nonlinear behavior of connections has an outstanding role on the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete structures. In presented research, the joint flexibility is considered applying a rotational spring at each end of the member. To derive the moment-rotation behavior of beam-column connections, the relative rotations produced by the relative slip of flexural reinforcement in the joint and the flexural cracking of the beam end are taken into consideration. Furthermore, the considered spread plasticity model, unlike the previous models that have been developed based on the linear moment distribution subjected to lateral loads includes both lateral and gravity load effects, simultaneously. To confirm the accuracy of the proposed methodology, a simply-supported test beam and three reinforced concrete frames are considered. Pushover and nonlinear dynamic analysis of three numerical examples are performed. In these examples the nonlinear behavior of connections and the material nonlinearity using the proposed methodology and also linear flexibility model with different number of elements for each member and fiber based distributed plasticity model with different number of integration points are simulated. Comparing the results of the proposed methodology with those of the aforementioned models describes that suggested model that only uses one element for each member can appropriately estimate the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures.
This paper proposes a mechanical model to describe the load-deformation responses of the reinforced concrete plate members under service load state. An Analytical method is introduced on the basis of the rotating crack model which considers equilibrium, compatibility conditions, load-strain relationship of cracked member, and constitutive law for materials. The tension stiffening effect in reinforced concrete structures is taken into account by the average tensile stress-strain relationship from the load-strain relationship for the cracked member and the constitutive law for material. The strain compatibility is used to find out the crack direction because the crack direction is an unknown variable in the equilibrium and compatibility conditions. The proposed theory is verified by the numerous experimental data such as the crack direction, moment-steel strain relationship, moment-crack width relationship. The present paper can provide some basis for the provision of the definition of serviceability for plate structures of which reinforcements are deviated from the principal stresses, because the present code defines the serviceability by the deflection, crack control, vibration and fatigue basically for the skeletal members. The proposed theory is applicable to predict the service load state behavior of a variety of reinforced concrete plate structures such as skew slab bridges, the deck of skew girder bridges.

This paper reviews available techniques for monitoring corrosion of steel in concrete. The need for early detection and diagnosis of corrosion related deterioration in reinforced structures is widely acknowledged. This is particularly important in reinforced concrete structures on account of the economic and social significance of the problem. The current generally used on-site procedure for corrosion monitoring of reinforced structures employs a method of half-cell surface potential measurements. While the technique has provided a useful means of delineating areas of high or low corrosion risk, there are difficulties in its use and interpretation when assessing rates of deterioration. Electrochemical techniques are by far the most suitable for corrosion monitoring purpose and meet most of the requirements. The aim of this paper is to describe the electric resistance sensor(ER sensor) and electrochemical techniques employed to monitor and estimate corrosion rates of reinforcement. Early detection and diagnosis of corrosion hazards allows preventive measures to be taken, hence the typically expensive repair of severely deteriorated structures can be avoided.
A 3-node 3D co-rotational beam element using vectorial rotational variables is employed to consider the geometric nonlinearity in 3D space. To account for shape versatility and reinforced concrete cross-sections, fibre model has been derived and conducted. Numerical integration over the cross-section is performed, considering both normal and shear stresses. In addition, the derivations associated with material nonlinearity are given in terms of elasto-plastic incremental stress-strain relationship for both steel and concrete. Steel reinforcement is treated as elasto-plastic material with Von Mises yield criterion. Compressive concrete behaviour is described by Modified Kent and Park model, while tensile stiffening effect is taken into account as well. Through several numerical examples, it is shown that the proposed 3D co-rotational beam element with fibre model can be used to simulate steel and reinforced concrete framed structures with satisfactory accuracy and efficiency.
A novel formulation aiming to achieve optimal design of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is presented here. Optimal sizing and reinforcing for beam and column members in multi-bay and multistory RC structures incorporates optimal stiffness correlation among all structural members and results in cost savings over typical-practice design solutions. A Nonlinear Programming algorithm searches for a minimum cost solution that satisfies ACI 2005 code requirements for axial and flexural loads. Material and labor costs for forming and placing concrete and steel are incorporated as a function of member size using RS Means 2005 cost data. Successful implementation demonstrates the abilities and performance of MATLAB's (The Mathworks, Inc.) Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithm for the design optimization of RC structures. A number of examples are presented that demonstrate the ability of this formulation to achieve optimal designs.
Over the past years, hybrid building systems, consisting of reinforced concrete frames in bottom and steel frames in top are used as a cost-effective alternative to traditional structural steel or reinforced concrete constructions. Dynamic analysis of hybrid structures is usually a complex procedure due to various dynamic characteristics of each part, i.e. stiffness, mass and especially damping. In hybrid structures, one or more transitional stories with composite sections are used for better transition of lateral and gravity forces. The effect of transitional storey has been considered in no one of the studies in the field of hybrid structures damping. In this study, a method has been proposed to determining the equivalent modal damping ratios for hybrid steel-concrete buildings with transitional storey. In the proposed method, hybrid buildings are considered to have three structural systems, reinforced concrete, composite steel and concrete (transitional storey) and steel system. In this method, hybrid buildings are substituted appropriately with 3-DOF system.
A detailed finite element modeling is presented for the simulation of the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures which manages to predict the nonlinear behavior of four different experimental setups with computational efficiency, robustness and accuracy. The proposed modeling method uses 8-node hexahedral isoparametric elements for the discretization of concrete. Steel rebars may have any orientation inside the solid concrete elements allowing the simulation of longitudinal as well as transverse reinforcement. Concrete cracking is treated with the smeared crack approach, while steel reinforcement is modeled with the natural beam-column flexibility-based element that takes into consideration shear and bending stiffness. The performance of the proposed modeling is demonstrated by comparing the numerical predictions with existing experimental and numerical results in the literature as well as with those of a commercial code. The results show that the proposed refined simulation predicts accurately the nonlinear inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete structures achieving numerical robustness and computational efficiency.

Concrete beams reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars exhibit large deflection and crack width as compared to concrete beams reinforced steel due to modulus of elasticity of FRP bars. Current design code for prediction and crack width developed in concrete structures reinforced with steel bars may not be used for concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars. Thus a number of researcher have attempted to propose modifications to the ACI 318 empirical equation for estimating the effective moment of inertia of reinforced concrete beams. Others used numerical method to calculate the deflection. The purpose of this paper is to evaluation of methods of ACI 440.1 R-01, ISIS Canada design manual, and others for predicting deflection for glass fiber reinforced polymer reinforced concrete beams.
