Recently, concrete structures with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) reinforcements have been commonly used for the bridge and building construction. In this paper, pier caps were strengthened by prestressed near surface mounted CFRP. To verify the effectiveness of the strengthening method, 7 pier cap specimens were fabricated. One specimen was designed for control, two for external prestressing steel strands, two for CFRP plates, and two for CFRP bars. Experimental variables consist of type of reinforcement materials and prestressing levels. The results of laboratory have shown that the ultimate load capacities of prestressed near surface mounted CFRP specimens were about $20{\sim}33%$ greater than that of a control specimen. Also, ultimate load capacities of prestressed near surface mounted CFRP specimens were similar to those of external prestressing specimens with steel strands.
Two-dimensional elastoplastic finite element formulation is employed to investigate the load- carrying capacity degradation of reinforced concrete piers wrapped with steel plates due to occurrence of corrosion at the pier base. By comparing with experimental results, the employed finite element analysis method is verified to be accurate. After that, a series of parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effect of corrosion ratio and corrosion mode of steel plates located near the base of in-service pier P2 on load-carrying capacity of the piers. It is observed that the load-carrying capacity of the piers decreases with the increase in corrosion ratio of steel plates. There exists an obvious linear relationship between the load-carrying capacity and the corrosion ratio in the case of even corrosion mode. The degradation of load-carrying capacity resulted from the web's uneven corrosion mode is more serious than that under even corrosion mode, and the former case is more liable to occur than the latter case in actual engineering application. Finally, the failure modes of the piers under different corrosion state are discussed. It is found that the principal tensile strain of concrete and yield range of steel plates are distributed within a wide range in the case of slight corrosion, and they are concentrated on the column base when complete corrosion occurs. The findings obtained from the present study can provide a useful reference for the maintenance and strengthening of the in-service piers.

Landing pier is connect from onshore to offshore with bridge type that a coast structure. The sub-structure is consisted of vertical or batter pile and combined reinforced concrete slab. These days useful design method of quay wall of landing pier type for pile foundation analysis abide by approximate depth of pile supported method, "Harbor and port design criterion, 2005 The ministry of land transport and maritime affairs". The approximate depth of pile supported is calculated two kind of method that one is assume to below depth of 1/$\beta$ from assumed submarine surface and other is 1st fixpoint depth by Chang(1937)'s theory. By this paper, FEM dynamic analysis of 3-dimensions was achieved that it has compared pile fixed end modeling with elastic spring modeling base on winkler theory.

In this research, major design factors have been evaluated for the establishment of the rational seismic design code of circular RC(reinforced concrete) bridge pier Previous experimental researches have drawn a conclusion that transverse confinement reinforcements have been excessively used for RC bridge piers in Korea. Thus, the objective of this study is to propose a rational design equation for transverse reinforcements of RC bridge piers in Korea which would be classified as a low or moderate seismic region. Newly proposed equation further considers the effect of the axial force ratio and the longitudinal steel ratio. Minimum transverse confinement steel ratio is also proposed to avoid probable buckling of the longitudinal reinforcing steels subjected to relatively low axial force. It is thought that these new codes seem to alleviate the rebar congestion in the plastic hinge region of RC bridge piers which contribute to the enhancement of constructibility and economization for RC bridge construction.
A reliable concrete constitutive material model is critical for an accurate numerical analysis simulation of reinforced concrete structures under extreme dynamic loadings including impact or blast. However, the formulation of concrete material model is challenging and entails numerous input parameters that must be obtained through experimentation. This paper presents a damage scale analytical model to characterize concrete material for its pre- and post-peak behavior. To formulate the damage scale model, statistical regression and finite element analysis models were developed leveraging twenty existing experimental data sets on concrete compressive strength. Subsequently, the proposed damage scale analytical model was implemented in the finite element analysis simulation of a reinforced concrete pier subjected to vehicle impact loading and the response were compared to available field test data to validate its accuracy. Field test and FEA results were in good agreement. The proposed analytical model was able to reliably predict the concrete behavior including its post-peak softening in the descending branch of the stress-strain curve. The proposed model also resulted in drastic reduction of number of input parameters required for LS-DYNA concrete material models.
A large number of bridges were built several decades ago, and most of which have gradually suffered serious deteriorations or damage due to the increasing traffic loads, environmental effects, and inadequate maintenance. However, very few studies were conducted to investigate the vibration behaviors of a damaged bridge under moving vehicles. In this paper, the vibration behaviors of such vehicle-bridge system are investigated in details, in which the effects of the concrete cracks and bridge surface roughness are particularly considered. Specifically, two vehicle models are introduced, i.e., a simplified four degree-of-freedoms (DOFs) vehicle model and a more complex seven DOFs vehicle model, respectively. The bridges are modeled in two types, including a single-span uniform beam and a full scale reinforced concrete high-pier bridge, respectively. The crack zone in the reinforced concrete bridge is considered by a damage function. The bridge and vehicle coupled equations are established by combining the equations of motion of both the bridge and vehicles using the displacement relationship and interaction force relationship at the contact points between the tires and bridge. The numerical simulations and verifications show that the proposed modeling method can rationally simulate the vibration behaviors of the damaged bridge under moving vehicles; the effect of cracks on the impact factors is very small and can be neglected for the bridge with none roughness, however, the effect of cracks on the impact factors is very significant and cannot be neglected for the bridge with roughness.
In the recent years, rehabilitation of structures, strengthening and increasing the ductility of them under seismic loads have become so vital that many studies has been carried out on the retrofit of steel and concrete members so far. Bridge piers are very important members concerning rehabilitation, in which the plastic hinging zone is very vulnerable. Pier is usually confined by special stirrups predicted in the design procedure; moreover, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) jackets are used after construction to confine the pier. FRP wrapping of the piers is one of the most effective ways of increasing moment and ductility capacity of them, which has a growing application due to its relative advantages. In many earthquake-resistant bridges, reinforced concrete columns have a major defect which could be retrofitted in different ways like using FRP. After rehabilitation, it is important to check the strengthening adequacy by dynamic nonlinear analysis and precise modeling of material properties. If the plastic hinge properties are simplified for the strengthened members, as the simplified properties which FEMA 356 proposes for non-strengthened members, static nonlinear analysis could be performed more easily. Current paper involves this matter and it is intended to determine the plastic hinge properties for static nonlinear analysis of the FRP-strengthened circular columns.

This study investigates the seismic performance of new hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details. The developed triangular reinforcement details are economically feasible and rational, and facilitate shorter construction periods. We tested a model of new hollow RC bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details under a constant axial load and a quasi-static, cyclically reversed horizontal load. We used a computer program, Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology (RCAHEST), for analysis of RC structures. The used numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the loading cycles for several hollow pier specimens investigated. As a result, developed triangular reinforcement details for material quantity reduction was equal to existing reinforcement details in terms of required performance.
The test results from non-destructive and destructive field testing of a three-span deteriorated reinforced concrete slab bridge are used as a vehicle to examine the reliability of available tools for finite-element analysis of in-situ structures. Issues related to geometric modeling of members and connections, material models, and failure criteria are discussed. The results indicate that current material models and failure criteria are adequate, although lack of inelastic out-of-plane shear response in most nonlinear shell elements is a major shortcoming that needs to be resolved. With proper geometric modeling, it is possible to adequately correlate the measured global, regional, and local responses at all limit states. However, modeling of less understood mechanisms, such as slab-abutment connections, may need to be finalized through a system identification technique. In absence of the experimental data necessary for this purpose, upper and lower bounds of only global responses can be computed reliably. The studies reaffirm that success of finite-element models has to be assessed collectively with reference to all responses and not just a few global measurements.

This study deals with the quasi-static tests on steel reinforced concrete composite columns with single embedded steel or multiple members. For the design of bridge piers, the composite section needs to have low steel ratio for cost savings because the dimension of the pier section is usually large. There is lack of design guidelines for these composite columns with low steel ratio, but the design provisions for the normal reinforced concrete column can be used for the design because of the low steel ratio. It is necessary to provide the design provisions in terms of the strength limit state and seismic performance by the detail requirements on the longitudinal steel and the transverse steel. The test parameters in this study were determined considering the current design provisions on RC columns. Through the quasi-static tests, the seismic performance of the composite columns were discussed.
