Asymmetrical reinforcement for circular sections in wall piles is an efficient construction component with reduced embodied energy. It has been proven that asymmetrical reinforced wall piles may save more than 50% of the reinforcement than the traditional symmetrically reinforced circular sections. The use of this new type of structural member increases the number of variables in the design problem, which makes its use by engineers more complicated. In order to facilitate the use of the asymmetrically reinforced piles, this paper presents a criterion for the design of this type of structural member. The chosen criterion has been analyzed with the help of flexural capacity-cost curves. The new criterion is similar to the design procedure traditionally used for RC beams.

Numerous experimental studies have been conducted on reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear with externally bonded fiber reinforced polymer (EBFRP). The objectives of this work are to study the behavioral trends of shear strengthened EBFRP RC beams after updating the existing database. The previously published databases have been updated, enriched and cross checked for completeness, redundancy and consistency. The updated database now contains data on 698 EBFRP beams and covers the time span from 1992 to 2018. The collected database then refined applying certain filters and used to investigate and capture better interactions among various influencing parameters affecting the shear strength of EBFRP beams. These parameters include the type and properties of FRP, fiber orientation as well as the strengthening scheme, the shear and the longitudinal steel reinforcement ratios, the shear span ratio, and the geometry of the member. The refined database is used to test the prediction accuracy of the existing design models. Considerable scatters are found in the results of all tested prediction models and in many occasions the predictions are unsafe. To better understand the shear behavior of the EBFRP RC beams and then enhance the prediction models, it was concluded that focused experimental programs should be carried out.

As the limit state design method is applied as the design method of reinforced concrete structure, the ultimate state is considered when analyses or designing. In fact, when the reinforced concrete member is bent, there is a confining effect by stirrup, but the material curve of unconfined concretes applied when designing. In this study, to evaluate the suitability of the confined concrete model for flexural members, a 4-point bending test was conducted on RC simple beam with a double-reinforced rectangular cross-section, and the behavior of the member after yield was analyzed in detail using image processing method. For detailed analysis, the DIC method was adopted as an image analysis method, and the validity of DIC method was verified by comparing the measurement results with the LVDT. The distribution of the strain on the concrete surface calculated as a result of the DIC method could be obtained, and the average strain distribution of the cross-section was calculated. Using the average strain distribution, the stress distribution applied existing confined concrete model as a material curve could be derived. Through the comparison of the experimental results and the existing model application results, the suitability of the confined concrete model for RC flexural members having a rectangular cross-section was evaluated.
When a structural wall is subjected to multi-directional ground motion, torsion-induced cracks degrade the stiffness of the wall. The effect of torsion should not be neglected. As a main lateral load resisting member, reinforced concrete (RC) structural wall has been widely studied under the combined action of bending and shear. Unfortunately, its seismic behavior under a combined action of torsion, bending and shear is rarely studied. In this study, torsional performances of the RC structural walls under the combined action is assessed from a comprehensive parametrical study. Finite element (FE) models are built and calibrated by comparing with the available experimental data. The study is then carried out to find out the critical design parameter affecting the torsional stiffness of RC structural walls, including the axial load ratio, aspect ratio, leg-thickness ratio, eccentricity of lateral force, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and transverse reinforcement ratio. Besides, to facilitate the application in practice, an empirical equation is developed to estimate the torsional stiffness of RC rectangular structural walls conveniently, which is found to agree well with the numerical results of the developed FE models.

This paper concentrates on the development of simplified and effective algorithm for optimum reinforced concrete(RC) member design. After constructing the data base of predetermined RC sections which are arranged in the order of increasing resistant capacity. Then, the relationship between the section identification numbers and resistant capacities of sections is estabilished by regression and it can be used to obtain the initial solution(section) which satisfies the design constraints imposed. Assuming that there exists the optimum section near the initially selected one, the direct search is conducted to find the discrete optimum solution. The optimization of the entire structure is accomplished through the individual member optimization.

Although the research of high strength materials is in process briskly in the inside and outside of the country, in south korea, the research of high strength materials is insufficiency. Generally shear resistance of RC beam is influenced dominantly by amount of shear-reinforcing bars($p_w$) and yied strength($f_{wy}$). Therefore, I come to the conclusion that if use shear reinforced bar with shear reinforced bar, it leads to decrease of the quantity of shear reinforced bar and effects on the security of shear-restraint force of member. This study experimented with not only the mixture of high strength-reinforced bar and U-shaped reinforcement normal strength -reinforced bar devises efficient improvement, but also it incites improvement of bond capacity and carries out an experimental study for improvement of member resisting force, finally it evaluates bond capacity quantitatively on the lines of main reinforcement the restraint method.

The early -age behavior of base restrained reinforced concrete (RC) walls is analyzed using a three-dimensional finite element method in this study. After calculating the temperature and internal relative humidity variations of an RC wall, determination of stresses due to thermal gradients, differential drying shrinkage, and average drying shrinkage is followed, and the relative contribution of these three stress components to the total stress is compared. The mechanical properties of early-age concrete, determined from many experimental studies, are taken into consideration, and a discrete reinforcing steel derived using the equivalent nodal force concept is also used to simulate the cracking behavior of RC walls. In advance, to Predict the crack spacing and maximum crack width in a base restrained RC wall, an analytical model which can simulate the post-cracking behavior of an RC tension member is introduced on the basis of the energy equilibrium before and after cracking of concrete.

In recent years the research and development about the new material proceeds rapidly and actively in building industry. We are concerned with high-strength concrete as a new material. As the building structure becomes bigger, higher and more specialized, so does the demand of material and member with high strength for building expands greatly. In the future, we will quite need to research repair and rehabilitation to make high strength concrete structural building for our safe. So, I did an study on carbon fiber sheet rehabilitation(CFSR) of reinforced high strength concrete beams. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) bonding method is widely used for reinforcing the existing concrete structure among the various methods. The test results indicate that CFS is very effective for strengthening the damaged beams and controlling deflections of the repaired beams. When carbon fiber sheet rehabilitation of reinforced high strength concrete beams happened diagonal crack, the increase in the number of CFS layer didn't effect the increase in strength of beams. Also, by changing the CFS stick position gave diversified ultimate load in CFSR beams.

Predicting the failure modes of reinforced concrete corbels is difficult because the reinforced concrete corbels show the shapes of sudden shear failures at even slight deflection. For this reason, an exact analysis method is demanded highly. In this study, the validity of the grid softened strut-tie model method suggested for concrete member analysis was examined through the ultimate strength evaluation of the reinforced concrete corbels tested to failure. The evaluated ultimate strengths by the grid softened strut-tie model method were compared with those by the ACI 318-02 and the softened strut-tie model method.
